I dunno if the Bud thing is THAT big of a deal. They're in it for the logo being slapped on everything you see on TV, the stadium sales aren't nothing but they can probably get some money back on that and it's not the main reason they're there. Alcohol was banned in the stadiums at Brazil 2014 but the FIFA forced the government to pass a bill to override it.

It’s kind of sad that the restriction of selling (shite, £12-a-pop) alcohol has seemingly gained more traction than far bigger issues heading into the tournament, but here we are.

 

Restricting the sale two days before the tournament is a massive fuck you flex by the Qataris, and just underlines that they’re running this show, not FIFA in any way shape or form. Apologies for sounding glib, but brings to mind Darth Vader warning Lando to pray he doesn’t alter their deal any further.

To be fair, the narrative from most media has been about the migrant workers and lgbtq+ rights thus far. 

The beer thing is kind of the icing on the cake for most people.
