Marvel Snap - current season: Savage Land

I haven’t had Ego yet, but they’ve definitely leaned into the RNG-ness with some of the locations, and I’m still not a fan of the hot locations.

I’ve just hit Pool 3 and hadn’t realised quite how much card collection gets slowed down, after the first two Mystery cards in pool 3 it switches to a Collectors cache every 8 Collector levels, and there’s only a chance of getting a card in each cache. The first two cards I got were pretty uninspiring as well 🙄.

Still having loads of fun with the game though, I’ll probably shell out for the new season pass this week.

Been playing for the last week or so, and up to collection level 254, ranked level 42 and completed the (free tier) season pass. Personally I’m loving it. Reminds me in a way of the early days of Hearthstone, where balance is a bit wonky but before the absurd power creep made the base cards unusable.

Don’t think I’d pay real money (especially not 8 quid for season pass) but it’s now definitely part of my daily routine and will keep at it for the foreseeable future. Have yet to explore many of the combinations and synergies and will probably keep tinkering, creating decks around one or two interesting cards at a time, for a good while yet.

I started this last week, and am loving it. I only quite casually play CCGs, but felt like I was getting more than enough enjoyment to drop the 8.99 on it. I couldn't tell if it has made any actual difference to me, because I haven't used any of the cards it got me, and I still have no real idea what I want to do with the gold I got. But ...

The game is simply brilliant. First and formeost is the speed at which it's played. 3 minutes means "One more go, win or lose" becomes a mantra, because you glance at the clock and see that next to no time has passed. You're not commiting hours to it, you know in advance what your wosrt case secnario will be. SNAP! is in itself a fantastic concept, and snapping back at someone you successfully slow-played at the start leaves you feeling incredibly smug. Just like being Heimdahl-bamboozled on turn 6 can leave you thinking ... "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" There's obviously plenty for me to learn, currently in the late 30s, and trading wins and losses at more or less equal rates for now.

I've got no concept of whatever the meta decks might be, I just put something together that seemed to make sense to me. It may turn out that I'm playing a traiditonal DIno deck, but if I am that's purely coincidental. There are so many different cards, and at some time pretty much every one of them has felt overpowered to me. The best bit of this is how they almost all make sense, with powers and abilities that you can more or less predict if you have any idea who the hero/villain on the card is. But even not having any idea who Moon Girl is doesn't stop me from needing her in my deck.

"Play against friends" or at the very least some kind of Team/Guild mechanic would make this flawless. As it is, I'm dangerouly close to trying to bore people recommend it to everyone at the moment.

Collection level 360, hovering consistently around rank 40, and the locations have ruined it for me.

One game Ego plays turns 3-6 for me, alongside a location with a 25% chance of destroying cards played.

Soon after; random card to hand, lose 1 power each turn, destroy all cards after turn 3.

Game after that; turn 6 can move cards here, turn 3 cards swap sides, after turn 3 shuffle hand back into deck and draw 3.

All strategy, deck building and structure goes. Might as well just throw cards at a screen and hope for the best.

Enjoyed my time with it, but done now. Deleted.

They really need to reign that shit in. I'm all for stuff that removes or modifies the standard meta so people just aren't playing to a checklist bit complete removal of strategy is garbage.

Thing is, this RNG bullshit effectively drives the meta; you need a highly mobile deck that gets bonuses, or you need to have a good stack of late game heavy hitters.

Building anything else is going to be difficult as far as I can see.

Can't complain though. Spent nothing on it, enjoyed my time with it.

Honestly, a big part of it is knowing your deck and adapting your strategy to the locations you get. There's skill in working out the best play possible based on your current situation: your opponent has to do the same and the RNG largely applies to both of you. It's also important to get used to retreating early if you don't think you have a chance of winning. Not only does it minimize the risk of losing more cubes, it also gets you into the next match quicker.

I've just hit 2919 collection level and now have every card in the game. Time to stockpile some gold and credits before the next drop of cards :D I currently have 19 decks saved, most of which I think are still pretty viable. I've been having a lot of fun with an Agatha deck recently. I've spoilered what she does just in case some people would rather not know.

Spoiler

6/13

Card Ability

Agatha starts in your hand and plays your cards for you.

The core premise of the deck is to get her out of your hand asap, which involves playing either Wave or Lady Sif on turn 3. If she's discard with Sif you can then use Ghost Rider to summon her back. If she's played by Wave, you can then duplicate her power with Taskmaster the next turn. Alternatively, use Sera on turn 5 to allow you to play two 4 point cards on turn 6. Typhoid Mary into Enchantress is a good power drop (and can negate their ongoing effect too), or Shang-chi instead of Enchantress.

Losing a dozen games in a row due to RNG bullshit or guessing 50/50 plays wrong would be frustrating in any game, but there's something about losing in Snap that makes me especially salty. I've been stuck in the low 40s for over a week now, I'm not sure I have what it takes to push into the higher ranks.

Yeah, been fluctuating around the 40-45 rank. I mainly lose more cubes than I gain. But I guess that’s what it is.

Finally ran into my first Infinaut/ Sunspot player and was expecting shinanegins when I saw him set up. But he thought he was smarmy. Was satisfying when he retreated like a chump.

To give context, I couldn’t pull Carnage to set off the Nova/ Bucky Brooks combo and duplicate my Carnage.

plus I couldn’t even play my Moon Girl to duplicate my Devil Dino, though somehow I pulled Dino and duplicated it and my White Queen copied his Infinaut so I knew what he was going to do as he set up the middle lane perfectly. The guy snapped and I should’ve snapped back, but as soon as he saw DD on the right the game was up hence why the DD on the left didn’t convert.

That's fine as far as it goes (and as someone who plays a mobile, disruptive deck working around/take advantage of most location set ups is a large part of my strategy), but certain locations aren't work-around-able, you just have to pray: i.e. any time the game dumps Ego on you, or replaces your decks turn one, or throws five rocks at you and then RNG's you to draw said rocks three turns on the bounce. I don't even bother with those battles any more — I just retreat the moment they happen, because even if I win it won't feel down to skill.

(I honestly don't know what Ego's logic is meant to be. I've watched it, on turn five, look at my hand which at this point consisted of Spider Woman, Hulk and Enchantress, and decide that Enchantress was The Play despite the opponent having no ongoing effects to dispell. I was delighted, naturally)

Yeah, this is why I've binned it.

Totally understand what @Radishis saying but it comes across a bit "lol get gud". I am adapting my strategy (insofar as you can with 10 cards on turn 3). I do know my deck.

I just don't find it fun with these kind of locations.

Yeah the matchmaking doesn't seem to take into account what you've unlocked. It's not falling apart at the seams by any means, but some of the cracks that are showing need fixing.

Re: locations. I've got a bee in my bonnet about this because the rest of the game is so fucking good. It's everything an easy to please dork like me wants from a mobile game. Quick, easy to learn, unlocks all over the place, numbers and quantification up the wazzoo, cosmetic bullshit that doesn't matter, thematically brilliant. All that good stuff.

But the sheer randomness of the locations wouldn't fly in literally ANY other tcg. Except maybe Yu-Gi-Oh because everything in Yu-Gi-Oh seems busted to shit.

Anyway I haven't caned it nearly as much as some so it's got life for me yet.

Going off Reddit and YouTube you'd swear reaching Infinite was a piece of piss you can do in a morning. Need to remind myself amongst the humblebraggers there,s plenty of bullshit artists and streamer videos with titles like EZ INFINITE WITH THIS ONE WEIRD DECK are just trying to drive traffic. Apparently 3% of players manage it.

I get all the complaints in this thread, but the fact that games last 3 minutes mean I don't really mind that much. Also, some of the locations that people are complaining about are really easy to play around and then win. Once you've figured out how they work they aren't much of a problem. Apart from Ego of course, but whenever I see that I just automatically snap the opponent and they often retreat.

Anyway, halfway through Pool 2 now, and I heard you like multiple men with your multiple men:

@hub2 It’s not something I’ve come across.

New season Warriors of Wakanda has just started and Black Panther is the new card.  I reckon On Reveal decks might see an uptick, from a quick game just now it seems pretty strong (although the location was in my favour and my curve was pretty gross).

The new season is centred around a film that comes out Friday, I'm shocked!

Have they added bots to this now?

I'm getting the same avatars and usernames all the time?

I've had "Jamie" with his "Cyclops Avatar" three times today from 6am to the game I've just played.

Not seen any BP cards yet, if it's not Jamie it's been InfiDevil decks.

How did the card get to 256 power?

With the location and Odin I can see it hitting 32, but nowhere near 256!

Ps, I'm not sure if Storm is influencing it, I haven't seen what that card does.

Or maybe I'm underestimating the pull of immediate new cards...

I'm still in pool 2 and have been playing for about an hour now and not seen a BP card yet or any of the last passes either.

Now either all the whales are in the higher pools, or it's maybe seeing a drop-off.

I imagine it's still riding the no 1 app store high, atm.

Yeah, I wasn't quite seeing how it got to 256: doubles twice from 2 to 8 on play, then the double twice occurs twice again because of Odin (from 8 to 32, then 32 to 128); I'm clearly missing a double somewhere! Feels like he started on 4 instead of 2. Was there a Forge on the board at some poiht?

(Storm just makes the next turn the last you can play on that location)
