What's this business about card pools,I didn't see that mentioned in the tutorial?

When you get to a certain collection level the second pool of cards starts being given in the mystery cards.

I had to Google it because I didn't have a fucking clue either.

Like most of the stuff you need to learn, it's not explained.

MG has explained it well.

What you need to look out for is the massive jump that happens as you reach the threshold.

I thought it was a glitch yesterday when I was against all these new cards I'd never encountered before, but looks like as you approach the collection score they will just throw new opponents with new cards at you.

So basically as the first two pools go you will unlock the same cards as me and MG but when after you get to pool three and complete it they have randomized (supposedly) with drop-rates giving chances at pulling cards.

Also noted that the Season Pass cards will be added to those drop-rates a few months after their release too.

Pretty addictive this! I haven't played a card game since the Witcher 3 and this is scratching that same itch.

Just about to reach upgrade level 100, and proper level 26....too many figures bouncing around, not sure which one matters. Or know what I'm doing.

I'm quite enjoying this, but there are some locations that I find really frustrating — it's a card game, so managing chance is always a large part of it, but whenever a game starts with the "five rocks", "draw from a random deck" or "draw from opponent's deck" it feels like everything is taken out of your hands.

To a lesser extent, the "each player gets a random card" locations too — they can be fun to try and manage, but it always feels cheap when it e.g. gives you Blue Marvel and them Quicksilver.

Yeah that can be annoying, yesterday I got some rubbish card and they got Death. Energy requirement 9 (nine!) and power of 18. Totally out of my hands, and it lost me the game.

Still enjoying it a lot of though. Enjoying working through the season pass challenges but don't see any value in paying any real money.

Death has 12 power though, not 18. It’s definitely inhibitive but it’s not impossible to catch up, even with a rubbish card that would surely have reduced her power advantage to <10.

The season pass is by far the best value for money in terms of what you get.

I just unlocked access to the actual season, Symbiote Invasion, and went from reaching for my wallet to wondering what I was missing.

First off, £9 for a pass that expires in a month – or in my specific case, a week – seems a bit much. Even if you consider the rewards in the track worth it, that's a fair bit of pressure to 'earn' your money's worth before it disappears into the ether. Also, you can't purchase or even discount future passes with Gold, so the relatively high cost is going to be a recurrent hurdle.

Maybe I'm just too much of a cheapskate, but I went from actively wanting to give the developers money to considering if I should just delete the game before things soured. I appreciate the 'seasonal' cards get mixed in with the general pool after a while, so you may get lucky with RNG in the future even if you don't buy the pass, but they basically had me in their palm before they drew too much attention to the monetary aspect.

Where do you buy the season pass? There is no option for it that I can see?

The big "Get Premium" button above the Play button as soon as the game loads up!

If not, click "season pass" top left of the screen, then the button that says "£8.99" (or your equivalent currency)

If you haven’t progressed and completed the 20 level recruit/ rookie ladder and unlocked Blue Marvel, then I don’t think the real season pass shows up until then.

Ah that'll be it then! I'll do that later. This game seems quite good so far. Don't think it'll be worth getting this season pass so might as well wait for the next one...

The next one is 8th of the month or something.

I'm just logging in to do the odd daily, I'm bored with playing against Infinauts and cards far above what I've unlocked.

The charm was never quite there for me regardless of the character content, but I'll still have a dabble now and again as it's pretty easy to play on the phone.

I bought the first season pass and at nine quid it seemed very steep for what I got: a couple of cards, a few variants and a load of credits and gold. The cards are the only bit I care about and as they’re being added into the rotation after a while anyway I don’t think I’ll be buying any more of these passes. At half the cost it might seem more worthwhile, I don’t know.

£8.99 gets you either the season pass, or 700 gold outright. The season pass alone has 1200 gold in it, plus 3 variants, a new card, credits and boosters. If you want to stay f2p that's totally fine, but the SP is the only thing worth buying IMO. New cards are all anyone cares about really, but gold and credits are the only way to acquire them (other than the one you get directly from the SP), so the season pass does help with that too.

The new card does get added into the rotation after 2 months, but it's another card for you to earn - which will take about a week. The rate at which you earn cards slows down significantly in pool 3. I've got 3 cards left to get and my collection level is 2824. Early on you have a guaranteed chance to get a card every few collection levels, late on the chests have a 25% chance to contain a card and the chests are spaced out a lot more.

It doesn't really matter that the season pass expires in a week - the challenges slowly unlock over the month, so if you subbed now you either a) have loads completed from playing previously or b) can complete them super efficiently, since you have them all available now rather than slowly rolling out over the month.

I'm generally not a fan of the pricing structure of the game (which makes sense, as I dislike both free to play and CCG approaches), and am generally indifferent to the theming, but I will say I do enjoy it when a short match filled with mindgames ends with a solitary squirrel ruling stop The Space Throne:

(less keen on the way the game can't cope with slightly narrower phone screens though — that's exactly how I see the game, with the UI, card sides, and right-columned cards' might values cut off at all times. A bit shoddy)

So satisfying when you manage to get someone to kamikaze their own deck with what they think will be a clever play.

I have been relentlessly playing this for the last week. Up to rank 50 and have one pool 1 card left to find. I'm looking at this board and have absolutely no idea what's going on, but kind of excited to get someone to somehow end up with a -8 card on their board.

In the meantime, here is my most recent total noob victory that I am incredibly proud of:
