This is the cookie cutter Zabu set (pre-nerf)

https://snap.fan/decks/214588/

When the change happens, I expect one of the four cost cards will be swapped out with Mystique.

Though if you have Absorbing Man you can take out one of the 4’s and have either double Spider-Man (for toxic turn 5) or double Shang, or double Jubilee.

This is such a great deck but it feels a little dirty to use 😁

Bit telling that both the Zabu and Silver Surfer cards i.e. the paid ones over last 2 seasons, have been so OP.

Modok looks to be another one which will shake up the Discard meta a bit.

I'm short Absorbing Man, Crossbones, Ghost Rider and Giganto. I'll try the rest of the Deck and slot in something decent from what I've got and see how it goes. Cheers :)

I would say Ghost Rider is somewhat a core card to bring a big body card back at turn 4, once discarded by Sif, however it conflicts with the turn 3 Zabu. Though once Zabu gets downgraded to a 2/2 (from what the internets are saying) as long as you have Mystique that then becomes your turn 3.

White Queen, Enchantress, Rescue or Jessica Jones can be good value replacements.

I'm not sure MODOK is as powerful as those two, when I've used discard decks I pretty much never want to discard everything. Seems like a tricky card to get the best out of.

I've been having some fun with Modok, to the point where it's improved my discard deck quite a bit. He comes into play late in the game where I hope I'm just going to be playing my discard boosted cards anyway, so it doesn't matter if it gets rid of all my other cards. Wolverine gets played for free, Swarm gets two zero cost copies, Morbius gets a bunch of added power, and Apocalypse gets his power boost too.

Aye, Modok is fun and definitely gives discard decks some extra oomph.  Nowhere near the meta defining power of Silver Surfer and Zabu though, which is a very good thing.

I seem to be missing one vital card for most decks, like Patriot, Magneto, Wong etc. My deck level is 1300, so it’s particularly annoying when the collectors reserve spews out a 4th Storm variant when I’m still missing loads of cards that have been potentially available to me for ages.

Is there such thing as a decent budget Zabu deck or do you need the pool 4/5 heavy hitters to get the most out of it?

The core of a Zabu deck is surprisingly small. It's just Zabu. That's it. The Discard Ghost Rider version is popular and definitely a very good deck, but I don't like it as much as a deck that is built for pure power.

This is what I used to get to rank 80 last season:

829644435_Screenshot2023-02-08194544.png.fd330daab04fcadabb4f1db62a19eab5.png

The only core cards in this deck are Zabu and Chavez. Everything else is replaceable. I have a lot of Pool 3 cards here, but others are just as effective. Shang Chi, Enchantress, Jessica Jones, Rescue, Warpath, White Queen, Moon Girl, Wong. They can all go in this deck and do different things to win you the game. Every single one of them is an above average card and I used all of them at different times during my climb, chopping and changing based on my preferred way of playing the deck. When Zabu lets you cheat them out for half their resource cost, the tempo gain is impossible to beat. It's totally bonkers busted. Dracula and Jubilee really make the deck pop. Giganto and Magneto can just be Hulk or any other powerful 6 cost (or just another 4 cost) if you're missing them.

The thing about Zabu, and the reason he is getting nerfed, is that if you draw him by turn 3, you probably win the game. This is why I dont play sunspot or any other low cost cards. If you don't draw Zabu, your deck sucks, and if you do draw Zabu, having 1 and 2 cost cards just makes your deck weaker when you do draw him.

Cube management in the deck is really simple. If you draw him by turn 3, you always snap (wait to see all the locations though). Then you probably win 4-8 cubes. If you don't draw him by turn 3, you probably retreat. If you don't draw him and don't get snapped, you can play out the game until a loss is inevitable or you somehow win. Turn 4 Zabu is still a very, very good play. Cards like Magneto let you pull power around the board and outplay your opponent. Jubilee Turn 4 in to Infinaut always give you an out. You will retreat most of the time you don't draw him.

When you play this deck, you will retreat a lot. And I mean a LOT. But retreating 3 times in a row when you don't draw Zabu is inconsequential because you will be making huge cube gains when you do draw him, as long as you remember to snap before you play him. And I do mean always snap if you darw him by turn 3. Always. You'll lose 8 cubes sometimes because you misplay. Doesn't matter. Always.

ALWAYS.

Zabu has now been nerfed so my entire post is now completely redundant. I thought we had a few days left at least!

Such a classic. Release some hype/season/paid for content and then nerf the thing people have invested in.

I think clash royale sold the monk for premium dollar then pretty much nerfed it right away (might have been phoenix?).

Pay to lose!

Yeah I'm a bit pissed about this. Only season pass I've bought and they've nerfed it. Never again.

Digital asset. Sold as seen.

Imagine this in another industry.

"Washing machine only took have the load allowed after the first month. Now takes me twice as long to do washing. No repair or refunds, small print said they might change the function of the machine whenever they liked".

It was pretty broken though.

It got to the point where I started logging the decks I was coming up against, and Zabu was in just over 50% of them. Plenty of other decks are capable of total bullshit combos, but Zabu was definitely the most bullshitiest. Spiderman & Absorbing Man on one turn was one of my "favourite" moves. I started playing Spectrum/Sandman exclusively just to remain competitive.

I have gambit pinned. Any good do you feel?

I might save up 3k for something better? Currently on 2.3

It's not a bad card for discard decks but unlikely to shift a deck massively I don't think.  There are certainly better available.

Is he Series 3? I was reading it's perhaps best to pin the better Series 4/5 cards as by the time you have enough tokens you'll have unlocked most of series 3 through the collection level/ladder anyway.

Ohh got a Rogue.

Didn't use her for two games and then during a match I was saving up for Devil Dinosaur so a hand full of cards.

He drops a Ronan.

Rogue steals!

Dinosaur opposite.

Win! 😎

This is the deck I'm enjoying a lot just now. Mr Negative decks are very luck based but I've found Bast negates that a bit - setting every card in hand to 3 power gets around the problem of frequently having a load of 0 power cards in your hand before you get to play Mr Negative, and it doesn't have any impact on the cards affected by Mr Neg, so even if you have to fall back to a plan b you at least have some points on the board to use.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone else playing Bast ever but it really makes that deck more consistent than it would otherwise.

This deck and a nice combination of locations meant earlier on I ended up with two Seras and a mystique Sera in play before turn 6, which combined with Mr Negative's ability was absolute carnage obviously 😂

This modok deck is a bit busted. Playing Morbius and copying with a Mystique then modok destroying your hand gives 15+ to both cards.

You can also end up with a full hand of Swarm cards, add in a Dracula to copy America Chavez and you can't really lose.

I've seen this loads but with a turn 6 Hela bringing back all your discards too.

I was only using a low numbered deck to get one of the missions done. I didn't realise this would happen with Venom.

I'm still very much a newb compared to everyone else here it seems, I'm on about 1050 collection level.

My usual win is still DD an AZ, I'm guessing I'm still quite low ranked.

I like the hobgoblin guys. Just throw Armin Zola at it and piss them off.

Yeah this is one of my favourite counters too, especially if you keep a lane free and they attack that.
