Marvel Snap - current season: Guardians’ Greatest Hits

I thought I’d try an Agatha deck to just grind some games while browsing other stuff.  Jeez, she’s not good.  I didn’t expect optimal plays, but the amount of times she does dumb stuff is way more than when she does good stuff.  At first I just put her into a deck with solid cards that aren’t based around an archetype or have good disruption.  In one game, the dark dimension was the first location and she put all the early disruption stuff into there so it didn’t get revealed till end of game when it’s pointless.  Almost every game, she drops herself into the lane where you already have the most power, she lost me several games because she would have won in another lane, and the lane she went into was already fine.

So I switched to a basic Moongirl/devil dinosaur deck.  One limitation is obviously that you can’t have other 6 drops without some other stuff to support, but I thought she generally plays on curve, and between her and Dino, that should be enough a lot of the time, right? Nope. Even when I had both moongirl and Dino in hand for turn 4, shed play other stuff, she never played that combo.

Aaaaand, to top it off, if you play her, she claims all the boosters, so you can’t use her to level other cards.  She can grind out some missions for you, but really you just may as well play yourself, you barely end up saving time as you still need to hit end turn.

The moral of the story kids is don’t try and take shortcuts.  Although it is on brand Agatha messing stuff up.

That said, I know there’s a way to game her so she can be useful by running a discard deck.  But I believe you need Dracula or Hela (pref both), which I don’t have.

The key is to discard Agatha by turn three (by Lady Sif) or being played by turn 4 via Wave. Agatha should be your only 6 cost card to guarantee the discard.

The deck I run is:

Spoiler

Deck #1:

Domino, Wave, Lady Sif, Ghost Rider, Jubilee, Rescue, Iron Man, Taskmaster, Devil Dino, Red Skull, Chavez, Agatha.

Deck #2:

Wave, Lady Sif, Jubilee, Ghost Rider, Shang Chi, Enchantress, Crossbones, Taskmaster, Sera, Red Skull, Chavez, Agatha.

Key plays are:

Turn 2:

Agatha will play Domino

Turn 3:

Either played Wave or Lady Sif.

Turn 4:

If discarded, you can play Jubilee to pull a big card out, or you can play Ghost Rider to pull her back straightaway.

if Wave was used, she will play her card.

Turn 5 then 6:

If she played Wave, you can either:

Play Taskmaster to duplicate 14 power or Devil Dinosaur/ Red Skull/ Iron Man the Agatha lane then big card

If she was discarded and you brought her back with Ghost Rider, any big card then big card.

If you don’t get Wave or Lady Sif by turn 3, just retreat. Very rare but does happen.

also the location which adds +1 to a card (and if it’s unlucky to land on a 3/5 energy) can screw up the discard or playing Wave.

I’ve actually just pulled patriot, so I’ve slotted him into a deck with Ultron and blue marvel, as well as some of the other “vanilla” cards.  Suspect it’ll be loads better with Mystique, but it’s kind of cool being able to play some of the plain cards you don’t see often, as that 2 power bump (or 4 if I play Onslaught instead of Ultron) pushes them to where they feel useful.

So I've looked at my Ongoing deck and swapped Agent 13 for Sunspot (Ebony Maw is too restrictive for my useless brain) and took Cap out for Cosmo because I don't seem to get as much value out of him as Punisher or Mr Fantastic.

Literally the next game came up against an On Reveal Carnage deck (Devil Dinosaur deck?) where Kamar-taj turned up. He retreated as soon as I blocked it with Cosmo and I laughed way too hard.

Is there anything particularly good to use with Wong + Mystique (on the same lane, i.e. 4x On Reveal)? I've been using Doctor Doom but it's only really dependable for hosing players who've had bad draws or are focusing too much on one lane. Thor I guess is an option.

Otherwise I've been combining Quinjet+Mystique and any other buffs that appear to drastically reduce the cost of high power cards. Hilarious when going up against a discard deck and you manage to get their Death and play it for like 2 energy along with a load of other stuff in one turn.

There’s quite a few, though an ideal setup (if the stars align) is Wave on turn 3 > Onslaught turn 4 (different lane) then Wong on Onslaught lane then Mystique, then poison of choice as it’s then 16 activations. Whether it be Gambit (to literally delete the opposition board providing you give them priority) or Iron Heart, Or Hazmat (providing you have Luke Cage) to give them negative points to their deck.

or you could just fill your side with White Tigers/ Doom bots.

There’s also some Surfer/ Zabu setups as well.

Cosmo messes you up.

Had a good round earlier where someone was building loads of stuff on leftmost Onslaught's Fortress (all Ongoing effects: Iron Man, Klaw - as it was next to an unplayable lane - and Onslaught and something else), and I was able to play Wong there and finish with Doom and Scarlet Witch on same turn, filling the other two lanes with Doombots before pulling the power on two lanes where they had been up to ~40 power.

My own preferred Wongo Combo is to follow him with White Tiger, then Odin. If you happen to get Limbo, stick Mystique in on turn 5, or follow it up with Lionheart.  I've also slapped Black Panther in the middle, and think pretty much any decent On Reveal could well be overkill.

It's a touch worrying when you can't play anything even on turn 3, but you sometimes know on turn 1 what's in store. 28 points for each of 2 locations from 0 is always fun to watch!

Weirdly all this talk of Wong and I pulled him from a cache earlier today. I’ve not played him much as im playing a Patriot deck still because of the hot location that puts 2 raptors each side. It’s pretty basic, but I’ve got Onslaught in instead of Ultron as often you can fill up easily anyway, and I’ve got Brood, Mr Sinister and Squirrel Girl to provide more tokens if I need them, then Patriot, Blue Marvel and Onslaught to finish off. It plays pretty much every plain card aside from Hulk too so I can save space if I need to. It’s been working well so far, but sometimes it works really well.

Wong is great to pair with Psylocke. You can play her on turn 2 then get the energy boost to play Wong on turn 3.

Wong is probably my most wanted card. I've not had him drop from a cache or seen him in store. I've not even had a random appearance of him from Agent 13.

Mystique is another I'm keen to get too.

Wonder if something is Wong with your game.

23 cards to go to complete Pool 3, big hitters I still need are Wave and Doctor Doom. Got Arnim Zola pinned in my Collectors Shop too, so that'll be in my stack soon. Weirdly I have over half of the Pool 4 and Pool 5 cards, which is kind of nice. Shuri is pretty much a guarantee in any deck I make, but I've not done anything with Galactus yet...

I can't resist throwing in a 'Snap?' shout every time my opponent snaps and then loses, which happens surprisingly often with a Patriot/Mystique/Onslaught deck that doesn't come together until the last couple of turns. It's a sickness that I'm powerless against.

Well I got properly humped here, I suspect you more experienced types will easily see what I fell for! I'll be retreating straight away if this comes anywhere near me again 🤣

You're that person! Disgusting. I felt quite humbled.

Ego is just a shit location. Most of the others don't bother me too much because I like them thematically and they can hobble good decks, but Ego serves no purpose but to be the ultimate variance and it can do one.

I was waiting for Arnim Zola to turn up in my shop but Patriot has dropped in for 1k. Is it worth it or do you need other specific cards for him to work?

He can work by himself decently enough, but the pairing with Mystique is too good to turn down.

Depends on whether you want to play Patriot decks, as they’re quite straightforward to pilot.

Depends on my mood as to whether I play an Ultron or Silver Surfer variant. Though the Surfer version I play more often.

Questions!

I got my first collectors cache earlier. Cerebrus! What's shite.

Question - what else can I get from these on the collection level path? I'm currently at 510 😅

Shops - can I buy new cards or only variants?

Token card purchase

I have Attuma for 3000 tokens. What are tokens? Where do I get them?
