I don't get stuff like this at all.

How are they even competing?

Because they're both current-gen remakes of survival horror games that were competing with each other around the same time almost two decades ago?

Given Konami's practically non-existant involvement in console games these days I'd hardly call it a competition at this point though.

I’m not heavily invested in either but it’s inevitable that two remakes of two survival horror games from two different publishers will get compared, as they did back in the day.

From what I’ve seen Resi 4 remake looks better but I don’t get any sense of achievement or reward from that decision.

I was wary about the RE4 Remake because the rumblings were they were going to do a more serious horror take on the concept but the village section is even more amped up than ever and Leon parried the chainsaw guy with his pistol and the merchant is there and Salazar looks like a tiny Donald Trump in a wig now oh my god oh my god it’s the best game ever on rocket fuel

I'm only a couple of hours into Village, probably wait for the third person mode to finish it. Third person coming in a patch? Happily buy an update if it comes with the DLC.

Comes with the Winter's expansion. I don't think 3rd person is free, probably have to buy it along with the other gubbins but I could be wrong.

Seriously?

They're both essentially the same type of game, and most people looking for a next-gen horror game are going to choose one or the other, not both. It comes down to which one is going to get my, and other players, survival horror dollar.

Is RE4 survival horror?

More importantly though it's not like they were competing with each other back when the originals came out and they won't be competing now as we know RE4 is out in March and Silent Hill 2 has just been unveiled with not even the slightest hint of a release date.

Talking about Callisto Protocol and the Dead Space remake competing with each other makes some sense as they are similar looking games releasing relatively close to each other. This and Silent Hill 2 remake? Not so much.

We what!? Choose? If both are good they're both going to get played in general I suspect. Of course if they release anyway near the same time then maybe it's a choice which gets played first but people.are buying multiple identi-kit shooters and survival craft-em ups, and indie rogue likes, and racing games.

They're definitely going the right direction with this, just like the other Resi remakes. Making something inspired by the original but doing its own thing.

Can't decide if I want to play through classic Resi 4 again with that new texture patch first though.

Hmm I dunno, it’s actually more faithful than I thought. That village layout is so identical I’m not sure I’d bother with a replay of the original this close to release.
