Emulation on Steam Deck

Is there a definitive best guide for setting up EmuDeck from scratch?

You really don't need one. The whole point of EmuDeck really is that you download the installer onto your Steam Deck, launch it in Desktop mode, and let it get on with configuring everything for you.

Take a look at the website for it: https://www.emudeck.com

If anyone can get Burnout Crash working on Steam Deck I will find some way to reward you.

Only available on RPCS3 as far as I can tell and I can't get it running. Crashes to a black screen as soon as it loads.

Did you manage to get this working? I’ve just fired it up and it works fine for me. Maybe it’s a setting? Have you got renderer set to Vulcan?

Where did you get the rom? Maybe I have a bad one.

Sorry, stepped away from my phone for a couple of hours. You’ve got it working now? Great news! Christmas miracle!!

I let out a little squeel when it loaded.

Thanks for reminding me to try again

So I finally got my steam deck at Christmas after pre-ordering it in July 2921 before my wife grabbed it as a present the instant it arrived

I've installed emulation station using emudeck. Everything is working fine except for model 2 and model 3 games. They show up in the list of available systems but when I try and load a game I get an error;"emulator can't be found, is it installed?". Assuming the problem is as obvious as it sounds how do I add an emulator to emulation station? Or do I need to copy the emulators somewhere (and if so where) and then add them as a non-steam game? I have working versions of the emulators from a coin ops installation on my laptop that I can use. I've seen videos of games running on YouTube so I know they work but I can't find a guide a to how! Any help would be appreciated!

So as an update after some messing around I did manage to build a working version of supermodel from the website above but the lack of a front end makes it difficult to use so I think I need to move the supermodel directory to whatever location emulation station is expecting or edit the emulation station config file to point at the supermodel directory.

I haven’t played any emulators recently - there’s been a few Deck and Emudeck updates since then - and was quite confused last night when I booted up Duckstation to find that bios files were no longer recognised and controller configs wiped out. PlayStation bios files were correctly placed in the Emudeck/bios folder; I checked where the emulator was looking, saw it was pointing elsewhere so changed it to the right place - no dice, it had changed back. Copied the bios files into the Duckstation bios folder and it worked again - not something I ever had to do in the first place, and it always worked I’m the past.

I suspect all of this was set up automatically when Emudeck was first installed, and a Duckstation update happened. Is it a Bad Idea to update the emulators through the Discover app? Should I be letting the Emudeck updater handle all of that?

Damn, now I’ve loaded up a PS2 game and that emulator isn’t working either - looks like settings/configs that were automatically handled by Emudeck have all been deleted, I’m guessing since there was a major update to the Emudeck installer.

Is there a clean/recommended way to remove the old version of Emudeck I have and install the latest version? I’m assuming this will set up all the emulators again and fix my problems.

To answer my own question, this page seems to give a comprehensive re-install/upgrade guide.

I've only skimmed it, so I'll take a proper look at lunch time and report back.

And we're back in business!  Well, the PS2 emulator is, at least.

Happy to recommend the guide in the link above if anyone else finds themselves in a similar pickle.

noticed today they buggered about with the steam rom manager when you add titles in, used to be able to press the touchpad to select an option but now gone to the right trigger only, took me a while to twig what going on there.

I noticed that right and left triggers now work as left and right mouse click in the desktop OS as standard. Which is a big improvement.

I've only just started to dip my toes into Emulation on my Vampire Survivors Player.  Other systems I've tried so seem fine, but can anyone tell me while I'm getting duplicates of PSP games please?

EDIT: Oh, and how do multi-disk games work?  I fancy some Twin Snakes action.

dunno about the multi disk games but i had dupes appear for another console via emudeck and the ROMs had some extra file with them in the folder which was causing the duplicate, just delete the unnecessary extra file, my PSP games are just an iso for each title.

I had no PSP issues but just got all the files sat in the PSP rom folder, they aren't in they're own individual sub folder, some of the emulators seem quite sensitive to that

Right from the other thread...

in the ROMs/PS1 folder (for example) you will likely have the following...

Game1.bin

Game2.bin

Game3(disc1).bin

Game3(disc2).bin

Game4.bin

Etc

Instead put game3 into a sub folder called game3

roms/ps1/game3

Then in roms/ps1 create a text file and name it game3.m3u.

In that test file you need to paste the link to the two game3(disc#).bin files...

/game3/game3(disc1).bin

/game3/game3(disc2).bin

Then save.

You should then have a folder that looks like this...

Game1.bin

Game2.bin

/game3

Game3.m3u

Game4.bin

etc

Then run any scrapers, etc again

Cheers both, that's great.

For the record. I just created m3u files the every PS1 game and told my front end to ONLY look for m3u files. Not just multi disc titles. It meant I didn't need to bother with sub folders and instead of having

../game3/Game3(Disc1).bin

In the m3u, I could just have

Game3(Disc1).bin

As all in the same folder.

Handy tip. Thanks!
