I maintain this is the funniest scene in film history

the nonchalent bored indifference in the delivery of 'probably have some more cunt kids', the unexpected alliteration, Fiennes' hysterical pyscho eyes and funny voice always gets me, i've never seen him like this in anything else, he's so perculiar.

As for Lego Ninjago...the villain who has no interest in his son is so well done i think, something about the voice.

It's such a magnificent scene - the language is so unashamadely punchy and I love a good old swear-fest. Brendan Gleeson is the absolute best (not just for this scene, for the entire role - he is magnificent). Ralph Fiennes helps makes this scene so very good though - an absolute head-case, played really convincingly. Gosh, I love this film, basically.

That's my full list, most comedies leave me disappointed to the point where I wouldn't want to put them on any "best" list. There's sequels to the above I could have included, though, but that doesn't seem right.

Don’t think I could do an ordered top 20, but Dumb & Dumber is my fave of all time without question. Made me laugh so hard when I was 10 I couldn’t breathe, and still makes me laugh now I’m 38. It’s got to have the most jokes per minute of any film I’ve seen, and the majority of them hit the mark.

Will extend to close of play Friday 14th for anyone else who'd like to contribute and I'll do some checks in case I have got any queries.

@Camel @MK-1601 @BadgerFarmer @paulie12 - Could you finish/order your lists.

@MarkNCan you make a call on what is 5th and what is 6th - ta.

Currently 23 lists and 210 films!

You swine! I'll put In Bruges at 5, and Lebowski at 6. That was hard. There are just so many things to love about each of them. But In Bruges has more big moments for me. Ones where on first watch you go, oh boy! Lebowski is ace. In Bruges is slightly more ace.

How many have seen it? I haven't. Never seen it be on tv, and never thought to watch it. A lot of stuff on peoples lists i haven't seen.

Oh, sure, there's a bunch of stuff I haven't seen, but this is more like 'I've never seen Star Wars' level of 'Really!?'.

On the other hand, it is getting on a bit. I'm glad I didn't mention Duck Soup...

I tried to watch Airplane! for the first time recently. It really didn't land for me and felt very of its time. I regret I don't have the nostalgia for it.

I honestly think that Naked Gun did everything better.

Tricky one. As well as Some Like It Hot, stuff like the Pink Panther movies doesn't get aired much these days. Not quite in final order, but time to get this in.

20. The Life Aquatic, with Steve Zissou

19. Lego Batman Movie

18. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

17. Life of Brian

16. Shaun the Sheep, the Movie

15. Monsters Inc.

14. Despicable Me

13. Dodgeball

12. Lilo and Stitch

11. Hot Fuzz

10. Airplane

9. Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit

8. Spinal Tap

7. Tremors

6. Belleville Rendezvous

5. Galaxy Quest

4. Zoolander

3. Wayne's World

2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off

1. Some Like it Hot

Honourable mentions/random thoughts.

  • Steve Martin, either Roxanne or Man with Two Brains. No! Dirty Rotten Scoundrels!
  • Lego, I could have gone for Lego Ninjago Movie, or The Lego Movie itself
  • Jack Black has a few: Be Kind Rewind, School of Rock, Tropic Thunder (OK, a Ben Stiller movie), High Fidelity, Tenacious D and the Pick of Density (totally dumb but I love it).
  • Shaun of the Dead, but Hot Fuzz just pips it for me.
  • There are a couple of fun Aardman features - 'Pirates!', Flushed Away, Chicken Run, but it has to be W&G's only feature to date.
  • Blues Brothers.
  • Ghostbusters.
  • Naked Gun - I went for Airplane, but maybe I should swap them around...
  • Animations - you can tell from the list I like 'em. Teen Titans Go! To the Movies nearly made the cut, although I think Teen Titans Go' vs Teen Titans is as good. Who Framed Roger Rabbit should probably be in there, but.... And almost any Pixar, once you cut out the existential dread. South Park: The Movie and Team America: World Police. Kudos to @Benny for including My Neighbours the Yamadas.
  • Grosse Point Blank
  • Couple of foreign movies: Les Visiteurs and The Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec
  • On the subject of Luc Besson, Fifth Element nearly made it as comedy SF

So yeah, picking 20 is hard.

This was really tough because I don’t tend to re-watch comedies. The Anchormans are in that order because that’s the order I watched them in.
