This looks great. Love me some thalassophobia:

Polygon preview.

It's being made be a four-person New Zealander studio and is due for release on everything next year. Looks Perfect for Deck(TM). I've wishlisted it!

Ahoy mateys and lovers of cyclopean horrors. There's a demo of this on Steam for the event thingy they're doing so it's probably time limited. Seems charming as fuck and already had some Lovecraftian intrigue. Not sure about the actual fishing mechanic, but there's gear to upgrade and quests and shit so I'm absolutely on board.

Excellent! That's getting a download.

Runs on Deck, no fiddling. Only been out on one fishing trip but seemed solid so far and all text and controls working fine.

Only thing is volume adjustment not working unless you first press the "..." button to bring up the overlay first. (Something I've seen in a few games).

Finished the demo. Good little taster.

Did some fishing. A pretty simple but fun enough mechanic Found some good fish. And some mutant ones.

Did some dredging. A little trickier than the fishing. Still good mechanically.

Did some quests. Seems like it could be quite engaging. I guess it will depend how much pressure it puts on you really. Do I really need to be desperately splitting my time between questing or fishing or can I plod around and fish for a few days for fun.

Didn't see anything "bad" even though I didn't actually worry about returning at night much. Just some mutant catches and some birds that ate some of my fish. Not sure if they're just not in the demo or if I got lucky.

It looks lovely. Particularly at night in the fog. Lots of little effects going on.

It sounds lovely. The sound of the ocean and the ship.

One I think I'll be picking up.

Runs perfectly on deck and looks like it will get pretty good battery life... I've got mine at 40Hz and started at 100%, prediction is saying about 4.5 hours, so probably around 5 hours total.

I got round to playing the demo of this tonight and thought it was great, so much so that I actually turned it off after about 45 minutes, not because I wasn't enjoying it but because I don't want to spoil the final game too much. It controlled and ran well on the Deck and the interface is pretty intuitive. I encountered a couple of spooky bits, but nothing out and out horrifying. Not yet, anyway, but the sense of threat was definitely there.

I'm definitely going to pick it up. Check out the demo if you're interested!

DREDGE Demo Update: v0.9.1

25 Oct

In this update to the demo for DREDGE we've been able to respond to some of the suggestions you've sent via discord, twitter, or the in-game feedback form. Before we dive into the full patch notes, we want to take a minute to give a little report on what your feedback looks like.

So far, we've processed and sorted over 700 individual tickets reported through the in-game feedback form - and there are hundreds more we've yet to go through!

Most Requested Features:

Additional Map Functionality

Ability to organize fish in your cargo when you have one on the hook

Control Updates

Tutorials / Communication of features (e.g. Dredging, Panic)

Most commented on design features:

Passage of Time

Economy / Debt

Most requested language support:

Brazilian Portuguese

Polish

Most reported bugs:

Dockworker has 2 lines of unlocalized dialogue

Spyglass opening at odd angles

Getting beached on the islands of The Marrows

Crab pots interfering with docking

Missing Turkish uppercase 'i' in font

With that in mind, let's take a look at one of your most suggested features that we've added in this update: the Temporary Storage Tray!

This unlocks after you complete the introduction quest, and allows you to store fish (and trinkets and materials) temporarily so that you can re-arrange your cargo. Any items left in the tray when you exit fishing mode will be lost!

Patch Notes:

Added temporary storage tray.

Added controller rumble.

Various performance improvements.

Various SFX and music balancing changes.

Literally hundreds of text fixes and adjustments across all languages.

Adjusted the dredging minigame to better communicate that the notches should be avoided.

The dredging and fishing minigame animations now respect your color preferences.

Adjusted mouse button glyphs to be slightly clearer.

Adjusted xbox controller d-pad glyphs.

The default binding for "Back" is now X. If you have played the game before, your binding won't be adjusted unless you reset it (or reset all settings).

Added more colors into the accessibility dropdowns.

The title logo of the game now changes in Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

The T17 splash screen audio now respects volume preferences.

The T17 splash screen video has changed to a custom DREDGE logo.

Potentially fixed a crash that was preventing the game from running on Windows 7.

Fixed an issue where the Trader's pipe wasn't smoking correctly.

Fixed some geometry where players were getting stuck on the shoreline.

Fixed an issue where Crab pots sometimes would not open or behave correctly for players using the Russian language.

Fixed an issue where the spyglass would remember its previous vertical position when re-activating it.

Fixed an issue where capital i's would appear as squares for players with a Turkish system locale.

Fixed a number of text-wrapping issues on the map for some languages.

Fixed an issue where text line breaks were in bad places in Korean.

Fixed a number of issues that could arise if the player was interrupted while docking (for example, if docking 'through' a placed crab pot).

Known Issues:

When rebinding a control on Mouse & Keyboard, the screen says "Press X to cancel binding", but you actually have to press ESCAPE.

Some item descriptions and backgrounds do not follow your color preferences.

The spyglass sometimes opens to strange orientations.

One of the Mayor's dialogue lines about the old fisherman is messed up, in german.

Gave my impressions about the demo above. It's good imo. Roll on March then.

Ah sorry - thought maybe people had played updated versions since your impressions. I'm really keen to see how the Switch version holds up...maybe it'll be shown in the Direct today?

I've become somewhat addicted to watching people playing the demo/preview this week, so I rather suspect this is a must-have for me. Is the console release date the same as PC - end of March?

Yep - everything on 30 March.
