Hi! First time COD player here. If anyone fancies teaming up with a total noob, I’m available. I do things like Molly myself to death and that kind of stuff. Really cool never before seen tactics.

“Buried” - “press down twice”.

If you intentionally omit the adverb that I used then yes, the tone of my post is different, unsurprisingly.

It's absolutely buried in terms of its prominence though. The foremost Quick Play section is entirely multiplayer-oriented, for example. The campaign isn't installed by default but the MP is. Even better, I later discovered - unless I hit a bug - that when you next attempt to launch campaign after installing the extra content pack, you then get a prompt cheerily telling you "oops, didn't I mention that there's actually a campaign pack 2?" It's utterly dreadful UX, that could trivially be solved by asking the user on first install what they're going to want to play. This is exactly what the previous versions' campaign experience deteriorated to, several updates in. I had assumed that this was mainly an oversight, because it was the MP that they were then actively working on, but seemingly, no, they've decided that this is actually how they want to present it. Baffling.

I've never played this much COD MP ever. I'm loving it. I fought my way through 16 levels of the Recon (10 bullet mag lol. Double kill challenges too) to get a really nice SMG that works well for me. Then I read somewhere how fun shotguns were so I thought I'd give them a try.

Turns out shotguns are my spirit animal and I desire more shotguns

My team still lost but by damn I felt like I had a great game. Loads of 1hit kills with that sexy slug thrower. I love that mexican town map. Also big fan of the museum and the hotel. The border crossing seems to be my kryptonite though. Race track is quite fun too.

This is missing a Shipment, Das Haus or Nuketown type map for getting stuff unlocked a bit quicker if you want to, I think Ive played every map now

After playing Vanguard thank god theyve got rid of that MVP voting thing with all the pistol whip and headbutting that you couldnt skip

Shotguns are going to get nerfed hard. The attachment that makes bullet spread tighter is a one hit kill up to thirty metres.

With so much data collated over the decades why is this so difficult to get right for day one...

I reckon I've been done by a shotgun further, as well as other one shot kill weapons

Why is this so broken???

the lag even of free for all is just not acceptable for an online game.

I mean it is way worse than any other version.

I just played a FFA game an literally walking no through wallls shooting people who just vanish in front of me then kill me.

I am on virgin media 1gb speed so not my connection.

just utter shite.

The speed of the connection you pay for has the square root of fuck all to do with your latency.

It is your connection.

I had one game tonight that was laggy as hell. I just left it. Obviously a server instance having trouble. Not worth staying. Almost completely lag free so far though touch wood. I have had a single hard crash on Series X today. Happily the bonus objective I just completed still counted so I'm fine with that.

"It's not my connection because I pay shitloads" is one of my favourite sort of posts on the internet.

Extra points in internet connection willy waving bingo are awarded for comments such as "I did a Speedtest", mentions of a wireless networks, some form of NATing warning, and of course, the fact that 4k video streams works perfectly on the phat pipe.

I watched this video last night and I think I broadly agree with him, it's not as bad as Vanguard but I do get the impression that this game is incomplete. I just hope this improves with the first season. As it stands I'm mostly enjoying the game but it seems a bit bare bones at the moment.

Mine was fine yesterday. Then one match today with unplayable lag for five minutes. Seems quite unlikely it was “just” my connection, given I’ve never seen anything like it in any other game in the course of the last year.

Why?

An outage of a piece of networking gear at your ISP could be causing a bottleneck whilst it's backup or the network rebalances.

Of course it can also be on the game's side but there are lots of pieces here. Anyone one of hundreds of things on your (or your ISP's), the game or anything in between can be the cause.

I've played a fair amount of this in the last couple of days. I've played a couple of Ffa and won them both.

All the team games I've played have been terrible, or I have been. It just feels off, almost all the time. Can't get into a rhythm of anything but die-spawn-die

I'm not sure why I'm bothering posting this, but this feels bad compared to both Cold War and MW (2019). Or less enjoyable.

I just had a FFA game with lots of packet loss. I’ve rebooted everything and done a load of ping tests that seem fine. Hopefully it was just a one off. I have noticed my ping is higher in this game that other games I play that display it; Rocket League and Fortnite.

Oh and I’m disappointed there’s no barracks to check stats in this game. I’ve been doing quite well and hit the ground running for a change in a COD game, so it would have been nice to see my performance. Surely they are going to add it?

I mean, sure, on the other hand “which bit of stuff in this chain is the most under load?”

is it:

a. My relatively small and utterly consistent isp who emails apologies every time there’s a slight degradation of service?

b. The internet in general?

c. Activision servers?

Where would you, if fault finding, reckon you’d start looking?

That's fair. Of course, it's a reasonable culprit. And when others in the same game are reporting issues then it's very likely true.

And I wouldn't really want to defend the producers of yearly multiplayer money hoover.

This got me playing Infinite Warfare's campaign. You know the one the internet screamed bloody murder about?

It's actually really good! Blowing up windows to suck enemies into the vacuum of space or just flicking off their helmets in melee range so that said vacuum of space will do horrible things to them will never get old, and the dogfighting's pretty rad too. I'm assuming that the outcry was because the multiplayer doesn't hold up, because the campaign's super solid for a CoD so far.

Anyway, as you were. Still waiting on a good price for MW2, so can't really talk about that yet.

Actually, I will - I'm fed up already of the youtube clickbait for MW2 with some arsehole pulling a smug expression on the thumbnail. I don't even care if their input is positive or negative (and usually it's negative to garner outrage clicks), it's a flood of simpering, gurning imbeciles plastered across my feed presumably because I watched the campaign online.

Gah.

I've taken a punt on this, I wasn't really enjoying it to begin with, somehting just feels .... off. And the menus are an abomination.  No new flag on the weapon customisation screen is mental as well.

However I've found that groundwar suits me much better and am enjoying that considerably more.

That being said I am getting horrible desync a lot of the time. Games that start fine suddenly turn into lag fests half way through and become unplayable. This is with a decent ping of 20 or so. Very frustrating.
