Many think Breath of the Wild is the best Zelda.
But for me Majora's Mask is actually the best. Zelda has never been more interesting and clever than it is in that dark, surreal, melancholic and beautiful game. The time manipulation is brilliant, the NPCs feel like actual characters, the masks all have impact on the gameplay, the rewards are meaningful, it has the best side quests of any Zelda, the music is beautiful and at times haunting and Stone Tower Temple is the GOAT Zelda dungeon.

Everyone knows Megaman 2 is the best NES Megaman…

But actually, Megaman 5 is the best NES Megaman.

5 holds up really well and is a great entry point for the NES games. Also the Protoman fortress theme is a banger.

What everyone thinks is the best arcade racer: Burnout 2.

The best arcade racer: Burnout.

Burnout 2 is the best for racing/time attack. But when it comes to other modes...

Thing everyone knows: the best Crash Mode is in Burnout 2.

Thing that's actually true: the best Crash Mode is in Burnout 3: Takedown.

The reason is that Burnout 2's crash scores are too reliant on luck; randomly getting specific situations with the game's physics (e.g. jacknifed trucks). Whereas Burnout 3 adds the multiplier icons crashbreaker/aftertouch, making it possible to adapt your strategy on the fly, after the initial collision.

Super Metroid

Actually best

AM2R and Zero Mission and Fusion. Just way better, refined, smoother, better controls. Just better.

Burnout was a fantastic arcade game let down by tough rules that were too harsh for me.  It just seemed that the slightest clip into another car sent you spinning.  Burnouts were really hard to earn and if you got one you'd probably crash soon after activation. I first played it at a manager convention for Game and loved the 10 minutes I had.  But when I owned it I found it frustratingly close to perfect

Burnout 2 corrected loads of what was wrong with BO1 and for me it was as nigh on perfect as I'd seen in an arcade racer.  One thing I loved was that you could crash a number of times but it still wouldn't count you out of winning.  So many games have one crash and you're out.

Then Burnout 3 and beyond changed the formula so that crashes were a focus.  The opponents cars  would drive ludicrously, always in your way, trying to push you to the sides. Then as the series continued to evolve into a "more crashing, less racing" later releases gave you a takedown bonus by crashing into any traffic at all.  You could even do that test people do where you hold down accelerate and do nothing else and see how long it takes for the game to make you lose.  And although people love open world games, Burnout Paradise (a great game in its own right) seemed too open, too much of everything.

Burnout 2 is that lightning in a bottle thing - so good even its own developers can't match it.

1 and 2 are so close - but nothing has nailed the squeaky bum, streaming eyes, daren't blink adrenaline-furled rush of a burnout chain through Fake New York in a fake TVR in heavy traffic in the rain that you get in 1.

I don't usually 'get' hard-as-nails games, but I fucking got this one. Everybody thinks 2 is better for the reasons put so eloquently by @dumpster; but they're wrong and that's why it's in this topic.

I think Shadow Complex is a better Metroidvania game than all the Metroid and Castlevania games.

It is brutal we only got one game in what could have been a huge, long running series.

Shadow Complex was incredibly average. You should have written Hollow Knight

Battlefield 1 was the 'Best One' for Battlefield games, dont really like any of the others like Battlefield 3, 4, Bad Company the 'Better Ones' everyone else likes, Battlefield 1 was fun, felt more casual and like I actually contributed, not just running around for 30 seconds and getting shot dead

I like CoD Cold War way more than Modern Warfare 2019 aswell!

Thing that's actually the best: Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed.  A way better cart racer that doesn't seem to get mentioned much, pisses all over Mario Kart.  Better game in every respect.

What is this gibberish?

Too many I's in both instances there, obviously you meant to write:

Quote

everybody knows is best: Final Fantasy VI

is actually the best: Final Fantasy X

Still, my interest in Final Fantasies is slight at best, so as far as my own heartfelt beliefs go:

everybody knows is best: Ocarina of Time

is actually the best: Little Big Adventure 2

And

everybody knows is best: Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn

is actually the best: Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
