What new games are you going to get over the next couple of months?

The Last of Us remake (1/9) and Splatoon 3 (9/9) look to be the biggest games from that list, but that's about it. I'll get TLOU at some point, but I'm not paying more than £30 for it, and I haven't got the Nintendo Online sub for Splatoon.

  • Gunfire Reborn [XSX] – October TBC
  • Sker Ritual [PC] – October TBC

Scorn (21/10) and A Plague Tale: Requiem (18/10) will both get played, but they're straight to Game Pass, so don't count. I still don't really understand what Marvel's Midnight Suns (7/10) is, but it's got 'Marvel' in the title, so I don't care. The same goes for Gotham Knights (25/10) - is this the Rocksteady one?

I'm not bothered about Overwatch 2 (4/10), though I understand lots of people might be. Mario + Rabbids: Spark of Hope (20/10) might tickle the fancy of some, but I found the first game too simplistic after the XCOM games on the 360. Modern Warfare 2 (28/10)? Does anyone even care about COD nowadays? I'm out of the loop.

It's not like there aren't any games coming out, but it's looking like a cheap couple of months for my tastes. God of War: Ragnarok (9/11) is the next biggie for me.

What are you planning on picking up?

My plan is to pick up Persona 5 Royal on PC during October, and nothing much else - but sales and things always make me change my plans.

Of course you are ;)

I do fancy it on the Switch though. Would look great on the OLED.

Last Christmas was the first since 2010 without a first party Nintendo game from my wife, and this year looks like it’ll be the same :(

Might have to be Persona 5, then!

September - I'm keeping an eye on Sunday Gold - the demo's alright, but it's a bit buggy via Proton so I'm waiting to see how that pans out. I'll also consider Metal HellsingerSlime Rancher 2 is on Game Pass, and I'm totally in on that as the first game was lovely.

October - Persona 5 Royal on Game Pass. Maybe a bit of Overwatch 2 to tide me over.

November - subscribe to Ubi+ for a month to laugh at Skull and Bones. And then play the shit out of Darktide if it's not delayed again.

December - probably High on Life.

I'm sure something will turn up that will knock everything else into a cocked hat. I'm hotly anticipating Agent 64 , Flat Eye, Railbound and Terra Nil.

Splatoon 3, and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet in November. I've been told that I'll have to get Bayonetta 3 for Christmas instead of at launch because of the cost of everything at the moment <_< Thanks for reminding me about Mario and Rabbids, hopefully it turns out crap so I don't have to figure out how to buy that too haha.

Honestly, I'm mostly planning to pick up games that have already released that I don't currently have the money for. Soul Hackers 2 and Saints Row are the big ones for me; as an added bonus hopefully that'll mean the most glaring bugs in the latter have been ironed out by then.

Until then I'll be replaying Triangle Strategy, finishing my campaign of Total Warhammer 3,* and playing Immortality.

*once I get over an infuriating recent crash to desktop following a gruelling siege battle that I now have to replay

In September I'll definitely be buying Session, been waiting for that one for a while and I'm very excited about it. I'll think about grabbing Metal: Hellsinger as well, though I'm not sure about it so might wait for a sale depending on how much it costs at launch.

For October I'll be playing Scorn on gamepass, as I've also been waiting for that for years. Gotham Knights will largely depend on whether my friends buy it, as itlooks like it might be fun in multiplayer but I doubt I'll be dropping full price on it day 1 to try to drive that.

One thing I'm curious about is Overwatch 2. Generally FPS and competitive multiplayer games are far more fun if you get in on the ground floor, but I imagine this won't be the same here as it will have the whole original Overwatch community in on it, so it will probably be a pretty steep learning curve from day one.

If that Midnight Suns game is half as good as Firaxis' XCOM stable, that will be an auto purchase for me. I couldn't care less about the Marvel branding.

That's been delayed hasn't it?

List doesn't include Return To Monkey Island (19th September) so we'll consider them half stories.

Probably just mostly the sequel/remake classic big game stuff that is expensive and dull for the most part. It'll miss many of the smaller and better titles.

I'm sure there will be lots of stuff that captures my imagination over the months that I never even knew about until it was released. This is the glory of gaming to me these days

Physically buying, I shall be getting -

  • The Last of Us Part 1 (PS5) - September 2

  • Splatoon 3 (Switch) - September 9

  • Bayonetta 3 (Switch) - October 28

  • Resident Evil Village Gold Edition (PS5) - October 28

  • Sonic Frontiers (PS5) - November 8 don't @ me

  • God of War Ragnarok (PS5) - November 9

  • The Callisto Protocol (PS5) - December 2

The new Pokemon and the new Mario + Rabbids both look cool but I've barely played much of the prior games that I already own.

Other cool stuff like Scorn, Plague's Tale 2 etc I shall be using Game Pass.

I didn't realise Bayo 3 was out so soon. I really loved 2, but, as with anything released on the Switch nowadays, I'm dubious as to how well it will run.

I forgot about Return to Monkey Island, too. That might have to be my September game.

Midnight Suns being XCOM-like has got me interested, but I still haven't played XCOM 2 properly.

And, beyond October, I'm also interested in The Callisto Protocol, but not enough to buy it at launch.

I have a surprising surplus of time in the coming weeks, I plan on finally getting Disco Elysium for Switch.

It's been a long time since I played a Western RPG (or a RPG in general)!

Enjoy it! One of the best games ever made.

I'll probably get Splatoon 3 at some point but I only want it for the single player so no reason to get on at launch.

Aside from that the only game on your lists I would be interested in I already have and it turns out it's shit (Lego Brawls).

The Last of Us Part 1 (this week ~ eeeek!!!)

God of War Ragnarok in November.

That's it for the rest of the year.

Maaaaaaybe Bayo 3 in October but not 100% on that yet.

Waiting for Sifu to drop below £20 too.

I've managed my gaming abstinence well this year. Haven't even bought a game a month.

I'm still not completely convinced by Monkey Island, actually. I may have to wait for the previews. The latest trailer, with the 15 year-old horse armour joke, felt a bit off, and I don't know how much tolerance I have for Lucas Arts puzzle logic in 2022.
