Jerry Sadowitz

Because it's not something associated with Sadowitz.  Had to Google it, it's Chris Lynam - always used to end his set with a lit firework up the arse and accompanied by "There's No Business Like Showbusiness".  He also looks a bit like Sadowitz. (Slightly NSFW, but somehow that mad fucker got to do the banger-up-the-bum routine on France's Got Talent in 2014.)

I'm not really familiar with Sadowitz's work so this isn't about him specifically but what's interesting to me about all these 'offensive' comedians is just how much they are all just reinforcing the more right wing tendencies of the status quo rather than saying anything subversive. Maybe he was genuinely subversive in the 90s, but now when even 4 Chan talking points are mainstream?

In a world where drowning migrants in the channel, caging babies and starving the poor are vote winners, who's shocked by a racist comedian?

In some ways (not many) I was sad for Carr and his tedious gypsy joke, because just a few weeks earlier Matthew Parris was in all seriousness was calling for the eradication of all gypsy culture in this Times article, and MPs of all colours were voting in real laws with material consequences to end their way of life.

How's an edgelord supposed to compete with that? Sadowitz may have called Sunak a p*** but it was ordinary Conservative party members who acted on that instinct and selected genuine moron Truss over Sunak's evil competence.

I know a lot of people didn't like Gervais last special but the entire thing was a double subversion, he starts by talking about Kevin Hart being booted off the Oscars for a tweet made 10 years ago that he'd already apologised for and stated he'd changed his way of thinking in those 10 years but people ripped him even though he now thought the way they do.

Ricky makes the argument that there's no point in going after people that have changed and are on your side because of something ignorant they said and no longer agree with 10 years ago. He then goes on and makes the same ignorant jokes he did years ago to prove a point that you'll just push people back into ignorance with these attacks.

Love it or hate it it's pretty subversive in a i could be but I'm not way and pretty clever.

Saw Sadowitz last night. Easily, easily the most offensive comic I've ever seen. His formula seems to be, ok what's a sensitive or hot button topic? What's the absolute worst, most morally indefensible take on that? Now double down on that to an utterly grotesque degree, to the point of incoherence.

It's clear that it's an onstage persona. There's quite simply no way anyone could legitimately be like that. He shits on everyone, to the point where you're not really sure what his actual stance is.

I was pissing myself laughing throughout, but I know that it would have been too much for a lot of my friends.

Can you remember any particular lines?

At one point he was talking about being a necro-geronto-paedophile, and quite graphically simulated using a dead baby as a condom to fuck an old person. He also put a lot of effort into an impression of a zombie Jimmy Savile raping Bill Gates in a space rocket.

After reading this, I think my main question is that if he was to stop using this sort of material, would he still be funny? Like, does he have the comedy chops or is it all just shock value?

I guess you had to be there.

they should lock everyone in a jerry sadowitz show and set the building on fire

y'know, as a joke

I saw him play to four or five people in a room above a pub in Farringdon about three years ago. Seems like a waste to burn a perfectly good pub down for a crowd that small.
