George Cropper has a video out

Why does his 'venting and escaping' also have to include a creepy obsession with every move of a few knobheads on youtube?

I know Nobody Else Is Doing It So He's Fighting The Good Fight, but fuck me it's stalkerish at times, and the tone is sometimes - as others have said - utterly toxic.

So there's been a drop of 10-20 patrons in the past few weeks - surely linked to the idiocy - but this drop is just a pattern that's been playing out for a couple of years now if Graphtreon has its stats all correct. That's a pretty consistent downtrend even before all this kicked off.

(talking about number of patrons, not £££ coming in each month - that figure looks like it was hidden back in 2020 so there's no way of getting an accurate read on it now)

The thing is , is this really going to have any effect on them in real terms? Having a quick gander at their stats - looks like THGM channel has 120k or so subs. Of that crowd, how many are going to be paying attention to this sort of scene drama, or are even going to be aware of it? His videos seem to get (from a very unscientific piece of analysis I just did) between 10k and 50k views - I think you always expect a big range with niche content like this because some videos will just hit way harder than others. That looks similar to what they were doing six months or so back. They've had a couple with 100k back then but those are real outliers. Does their average viewer (I'm assuming someone who doesn't have time for "scene drama" because watching retro/ gaming/ watching retro gaming videos is just a casual timewaster for them, rather than a serious hobby) give a shit about any of this or do they just carry on watching his videos whenever they pop up in their feed?

Patreon's much more important for earnings - unless you're getting millions of views you're not getting *good* money from YT ads. The fact they've been losing Patreon subs for years now is a bigger hit.

George seems intent on going to war with the whole of the UK retro community. Which is an amusing fight to pick, I have to admit. But I do wonder how worthy the struggle is. Yeah it's pretty funny that some podcasters have decided to raise 25k for a book or whatever but it's not like they're forcing anyone to pay for it.

To reiterate what I think I've posted in here before. Yeah it seems like there are a few unscrupulous characters involved in the hobby. But I'm still glad that there are people out there creating content for what is essentially a very niche audience.

That retro hour book does seem a bit of a weird one. It's literally ten podcast interviews transcribed (and a few other bits of new content to be fair). I like the show but I'd just go back and listen to an old episode of the interview if I wanted to.

Not sure it needed a video calling them out though.

Looks like YouTube have made a decision:

well i presume it's that arsehole dvdfevergames who's done it as i'm currently taking him to court in the uk for stealing my videos/content but someone has reported multiple videos on my channel for harassment/stalking (!?) and obviously youtube don't understand that it's comedy. The entire channel has been nuked ! not best pleased but as i have said in the past, if they strike me down i will become more powerful than they can possible imagine !

so the patreon will continue and to be honest will now be the only place people can watch my content. it's a pain as i don't have backups of 99% of those videos and just deleted all the recent stuff a week or so back to try and save my hard drive so i basically have none of it left 🙁

i was hoping that channel would be my "legacy" in that i could leave something funny for people on youtube. obviously i am a bit upset about this but it was bound to happen sooner or later in today's social climate. i hope whoever did it is happy with their "victory" and that they go to hell for their antics !

but as said i will keep posting videos on patreon and will focus my efforts on there now, away from prying eyes and butthurt, pig ignorant, plagiaristic, talentless arseholes !

One of the first 'less contentious' videos Sean linked to above is this bloke whining about SJWs.

I feel for him and for obvious reasons empathise with his shitty situation but he just seems like a really, really horrible person. I looked across his social medias and it is all him starting actually nasty arguments with people like a teenager, complaining about everything, blaming every single thing in his life on someone/something else and picking on other YouTubers. His brand is all poo willy and bum jokes and he seems most known for being being creepily obsessed (add a fair amount of sexism and other unpleasant shit thrown in there) with those two pricks this thread is about to a borderline stalkerish degree.

Despite that people I genuinely like and respect, particularly @Lorfarius and @yakumo seem fond of him. I don't get it, what am I missing?
