There’s a video from george

its about copyright in the retro gaming sphere

I feel weird laughing at it. He’s very funny, but the… watch it for yourself and tell me how I makes you feel because it feels… is this ok?

I have no time for either of them. Putting up a begging video when they clearly aren't short of a few bob has left a bad taste in peoples mouths. 1000's of pounds worth of highly collectable video games sitting behind her while she sobs over 500 quid.

Well done George

They may be "in the right" in this instance (and they were with the Vega) but I'm not sure I can stomach someone who has posted borderline mysogynistic (see the Octavius Kitten rants they posted) and undeniable transphobic (see the relentless misgendering of Kim Justice ) shite.

Edit - I haven't watched the 2 hour vid posted (ffs) but if you get a nagging feeling of mysogyny under it then there is a reason for that backed up by their previous videos.

I latest 2 minutes of the George Cropper video. Not only does he seem like a dickhead for the things you mentioned. His internet persona is unbelievably annoying.

yes his delivery is marmite but the regressive attitudes seep through regardless of how right he is. That nagging feeling of the fact it is mysogynistic whenever he is criticising a woman for instance just feels horribly grubby.

The nail in the coffin for me was the Kim justice stuff though. The constant misgendering is not an accident which led me to think that the possible mysogyny was prettyy much likely.

Another Youtuber that falls into this category is THe Critical Drinker who has a similar annoying style backed up with a faint whiff of woman hating/anti-woke whenever he posts anything so I stopped watching his stuff as well.

Edit - I watched 2 mins and almost his first words refer to someone (female?) as a transexual version of Eric hall. I am not watching 2hrs of his shite to work out if it is all mysogynistic/transphobic this time tho!

I’ve no idea what is going on here, but trying to watch that first video is an exercise in frustration. I jumped to 16 minutes to watch the bit about the claim and 5 minutes in she’s about 6 seconds into her video which he pauses every second or two to criticise what she’s said and now he’s just said “spastics” about half a dozen times and I’m done with it.

Could anyone care to explain what is going on here? Sounds like this Lady Decade has used an image of someone else’s, been asked to pay for it and has started ebegging for the money, is that the crux of it?

Basically this. You can call people out - you should call people out - but there's no need to be shitty while doing it.

I used to enjoy watching his stuff because he can be insightful and clearly knows his stuff being a published author, but yeah, it's painfully obvious that he's has certain outdated views that I don't agree with. Then of course there's the YouTube algorithm which started sending me even worse examples (which largely seem to be men running youtube channels about super heroes and comics).

Got the same bad vibes as others so had a skip through and landed on him calling her a 'spastic', so he can absolutely get fucked.

he refers to himself as such too, on account of the degenerative disease that’s currently trying to kill him.

it’s not right…

The Quartering is one of the worst things the internet has produced, and that's saying something. If that's the company they keep...

Yes that's it in a nutshell. They are in the wrong, do the right thing and get on with it. It's the i am the victim in this that doesn't sit right and the begging when clearly they have pounds worth on display behind her.

Yes and then posted this about a request for £500 compensation

Hang on. So at the start she goes on about how they are always "very very careful" about the rights for everything they use, even images.

Then she says she got the picture of "Ray Harry Housing" by Googling him and taking the first picture that came up (which happened to be from the New York Times).

Well done George

To be honest, it looks like a selection of quick “job lot” bundles that have been bought on eBay for £50 (look, there’s 3 different copies of Mario Bros for the NES…)

But then that’s what YouTube is all about now, just stick a load of old shite in the background and somehow it makes you a “retro gamer” specialist, like a bargain bin version of Angry Video Game Nerd.

He did a great video with Simon Butler, the C64 and Spectrum coder/graphics person, where the topic of Top Hat Gaming came up. He’s not really in the shouting offensive character in this one. I think this is where the Top Hat Gaming investigation kicked off from.

Simon Butler makes a really good comment about how there’s literally a limited number of stories and anecdotes about the 8-bit scene that can be told, which then becomes a discussion about how a lot of retro gaming YouTubers are moving into grifting to make money, because they’re essentially running out of content. They use Top Hat Gaming as an example of it.
