X68000 Mini incoming?

Can some one explain this a bit to me? Read a bit in Wikipedia: X68000 was a pc that ran a custom Hudson soft os, capcom used it as a Dev machine for cps games.

So does these mean it pretty much ran arcade perfect ports of many games?

Not quite perfect, but closer than other other systems got at the time.

Googling this there really isn't much online in terms of reviews etc. I'm guessing must have been an expensive piece of kit at the time given its capabilities.

That’s about right. $3000, and they sold about 16m of them in Japan.

It did have some amazing arcade conversions, of Capcom stuff like Ghouls n Ghosts, as well as other stuff like Afterburner, if memory serves.

Actually $7,825 in today’s money.

Going on historic Sterling exchange rates it launched at the equivalent of about £1,600 (an Amiga was £499 at the time for comparison). Which puts the price of the X68000 at about £4,000 in today’s money.

RMC has a few good videos on it, although I'm not sure how different the models were with this being the "Pro".

I don’t get who this is aimed at. Surely any true gamer will have the original hardware set up - how else would you play ホバーアタック (Hover Attack, for any philistines reading)? What is one supposed to do - submit to playing the inferior, more widely available 爆裂無敵 バンガイオ(Bakaretsu Muteki Bangaioh, if you absolutely must)?

 

Perhaps it’s intended for people (like me) with museum-grade examples of authentic エックス ろくまんはっせん hardware, who don’t want to risk damaging their prestigious collectors items? But then surely these people could just use one of their other エックス ろくまんはっせ, whose condition is merely near-mint, for everyday use.

Fingers crossed this thing has a MIDI Out port, plus ideally USB audio out for the non-MIDI parts of X68K games’ audio (so it can be kept digital and also, compatible with my audio interface).

I'd buy this. The X68000 version of many arcade games were superb. Better then the Megadrive and totally destroys ANYTHING on the Amiga or ST (well, duh...cost, etc)

As long as it doesn't feature too much Capcom stuff seeing as its basically a CPS1 board.

 

But theres some great hardcore shmups on this system.

Given the state of progress, a Saturn Mini should be commercially viable when people are about the age of that character in that JIF.

 

It'll probably be a JPN-only release though, much like this.

Did anything come of this? Can't find any further info, regarding an actual release, so I'm guessing it was just some kind of twitter push to gauge interest..
