Si-genre-y Weaver: My dumb new movie game

While I was in the shower, I realised that three of the last five movies I've watched were linked by some common themes:

Mean Guns (SURVIVAL)

x

Event Horizon (GORE)

=

Prey (2022)

This gave me a really dumb idea: you can only watch a movie if it's justifiably a splice of two of the last five movies you've watched. So I've got:

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol | Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1936) | Mean Guns | Event Horizon | Prey

So if I wanted to watch, say, Thirteen Lives tonight (which I do), I'd have to find some way of weaving two of the above movies together. Maybe:

Mean Guns (SURVIVAL)

x

Sweeney Todd (CHILD PERIL)

This will obviously need some creativity, e.g. you could splice Justice League (UNCANNY VALLEY) and The Thing (SNOWY) to get The Polar Express.

Possible party game variant:

Spoiler

Make a list/deck of 100 movie titles, face down. Everyone gets five titles as their hand. On their turn, a player reveals the latest title and has, say, ten seconds to find a way to plausibly match it to two titles already in their hand. If they can, they swap the new title for one (both?) of the two matches. If they lose, they add that title to their hand. Winner is the player with the fewest movies in their hand at the end of the game.

Oh boy!  My last five films are:

Prey | Contact | Primer | The Vast of Night | Solaris

I was actually planning on watching a particular film tonight (another on my "still haven't fucking seen it" list), which from my list above I think is quite easy:

Solaris (Weird shenanigans in Space)

x

Prey (Survival Horror)

=

Event Horizon

I like this game. :)

My last five movies were Cars, Luca, The Lion King, Frozen and Toy Story 4.

I want to watch Prey.

This game is way harder with a two year old.

Spoiler

Let's go with:

Toy Story 4 (umpteenth sequel)

x

Luca (Humans feel threatened by another species)

The last film I watched was DCs League of Super Pets (SUPERHERO PETS) and before that Minions the Rise of Gru (SUPER VILLAIN PLOT) so the next film I'm off to see is

Spoiler

DCs League of Super Pets again, because we won free tickets and I'm cheap...

I like this game!

Ok, so I've seen Prey (Indigenous survival) and The Old Ways (Indigenous witchery), and I'm planning to watching History of the Occult next, which is... surviving indigenous witchery?

I think it works.

Love the party game idea.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol | Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1936) | Mean Guns | Event Horizon | Prey

Sweeney Todd (black and white movie) x Prey (picked off one by one) = The Lady in Black (1958)

Today:

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1936) | Mean Guns | Event Horizon | Prey | The Lady in Black (1958)

Mean Guns (endless double crosses) x The Lady in Black (femme fatale) = Mission Impossible Fallout.

Let's see, Frozen, Frozen 2, Everything Everywhere..., Terminator 2, The Batman.

I want to watch Prey, so that's indomitable masked weirdo hunting people (The Batman) X Arnold Schwarzenegger franchise (Terminator 2).

This is a good game.

There were a few detours:

Spoiler

Moonfall = Event Horizon (bad celestial body) x Prey (bad thing coming to Earth)

MI Fallout (man on the run with advanced technology) x The Lady in Black (The Person in the Colour) = The Man in the White Suit

The Man in the White Suit

Moonfall

MI Fallout

The Lady in Black (1958)

Prey

A high stakes retrieval mission (MI Fallout) x Remembering Elon Musk’s a wanker (Moonfall) = Thirteen Lives

The Usual Suspects

El secreto de sus ojos (The secret in their eyes)

Everything Everywhere All At Once

Elvis

Total Recall

Next film I want to see is Nope. I don’t tend to watch any trailers for films I’m interested in so don’t really know what it’s about, so:-

Total Recall (protagonist befuddlement)
