Women's Football 2022/23

Now all this international bullshit is out of the way ;) It's time for proper football to start. The WSL is currently in pre-season with the season proper kicking off in September. 

Here are your opening day fixtures:

 

WSL:

There are loads of other games local tro you. Try and get to some. Lewes are a great one for anyone nearish to Brighton. They have equal pay for Men and Women and equal opportunity from the ground up and that should be celebrated. 

 

Share you experiences, thoughts, whatever from the coming season and be part of the legacy the Euros left.

Edith does this every Saturday and she loves it. 

As for TV... WSL is on Sky Sports and BBC, but I will do some searching for other competitions, as it may all change after the last couple of weeks.

I’m glad LFC are back up in the WSL!

 

After this week I was tempted to go along to an open training session near me.  I used to play at school (I was one of the lucky ones it seems - at primary school I was able to play with the boys along with a couple of other girls, heartily encouraged, and cricket too which i was awesome at… at high school I went to a girls school and we had a team but it’s true interest was limited so we played across year groups) and loved it, along with other sports.  BUT they train on Mondays when I play netball :( 

 

I am a little annoyed that everyone is hating on netball so much over on Twitter right now :lol: I love both.

We're off to Loughborough University to watch a pre-season friendly between West Ham and Liverpool. Then our next game is the season opener at Reading, befvore Anfield for the Merseyside Derby. 

 

If we fail to get tickets for any of those games, I retain the right to show my disgust at newcomers ;)

Not really surprising is it. The DfE are usually glacial in applying anything and the "comparable sport" thing is bullshit, if there's only one pitch then they can split it or below a certain age play mixed teams.

 

We used to play mixed hockey at school, I saw more injuries from hockey than I ever did in football (and it was normally the girls who were more physical, even more so than the guys that were also in the rugby team)

That would involve going to Reading.

 

Sadly for the Select Car Leasing Stadium's pie sellers I'm on a golf day for that fixture, which means two pies when Liverpool venture down to Dagenham.

Ah fair enough! By the way, are you a 'fan member'? Might need to ask a favour when it comes to tickets for the derby. Hoping they are freely available, but fear they may now be restricted.

I’ve got a club membership, if that’s what you need? 
 

Very cool that the derby is at Anfield; hopefully there’s enough of a crowd to convince the club to host a few more there (United being the obvious)

Out of vague interest and my wife deciding she's now a football fan (which is fine, I'm not denigrating that, everyone gets into a sport at some point, why shouldn't the Euros be hers?) I looked at Leicester tickets, and don't seem to be able to buy them for any games. We can buy season tickets though, which seem to be insanely cheap so we'll probably do that, even if we only go to a few games.

 

Do the WSL have a really short season or something?

WSL NLD is in September. Arsenal members can buy tickets for that. I don’t think it’s on general sale

 

club level is £20
