Black Panther - Wakanda Forever - November 2022

Disney have been painted into such a corner with this one following the tragically early death of Boseman.

 

The first Black Panther movie was excellent, I have faith this will be great too.

 

Obviously, there is a frothing base of negative criticism awaiting this which will be veiled behind "it needed Boseman to work" which is depressing to consider.

Great teaser. I know nothing of this but looked fantastic.  Is it shrouds in mystery who the next black panther is?  Is a relaunch for a new king/queen?  It would probably work better than replacing Boseman.

Given that it's lore-accurate to replace his character with a new Black Panther, there are likely a wealth of ways to do it narratively and be sensitive to the real life situation.

 

That trailer felt powerfully aware of that, so I'm hopeful they pull it off.

I don’t think there was ever a serious plan to recast T’Challa. It’ll be who succeeds him as Black Panther, and based on that trailer it looks like they’ll do it well.

Replacing him with a new Panther was always going to be the easy part. How they handle his death when he's not around to do a death scene is the tricky part.

That looks like a woman at the end of the trailer in the suit. I imagine it'll probably be Shuri, that seems like the obvious step.

 

I'd love it to be Okoye though just because she's awesome.

 

Angela Bassett is going to be an absolute powerhouse in this film by the looks of it. I'm here for it.

Great trailer. The original was a potentially great film struggling to escape from the generic Marvel mush it was pulped into, whereas this looks like Coogler has been set free to lean into all the most effective stuff.

This looks stunning from the trailer. Hopefully just the shot in the arm the floundering MCU needs. It's so on the nose repeating the line "everything is gonna be alright" that I wonder if it's even intentional. There's no way you move past Chadwick's death artistically, commercially or logistically without making his absence the focus of the story and taking the opportunity to amplify the talented performers around him.

Absolutely love their rendition of Namor. The whole Aztec aesthetic is gorgeous and if you can't have a cookie cutter headed half white Atlantean screaming "Imperious Rex!" then having one looking like Montezuma is the next best thing IMO.

Black Panther is one of my son's favourite MCU films. 

 

His reaction when he asked why there was no T'Challa was heartbreaking. 😥

 

Trailer was exceptional and glad to see more of Martin Freeman and his ridiculous American accent.

The procession of people dressed in white. It looks like one is carrying a Black Panther helmet so maybe a funeral march or coronation of new ruler scene?

Frankly wouldn't mind M'Baku stepping up to the plate. Winston Duke is great.  It'd make for a Black Panther always at the edge of doing the wrong thing.

M'Baku makes sense. Shuri did become the Black Panther in the comics too so its not out there. But it does make me laugh that Shuri in MCU is a genius scientist capable of insane medical marvels but actually stupid in real life.

If I was in charge of the MCU, then Shuri would turn up in every film having invented another vaccine, and then monologuing about how not believing in vaccines is stupid.

 

But yep, that trailer is fantastic. The music, the emotion, the cinematography got a genuine tingle down my spine. After RRR and Top Gun: Maverick, I'm feeling action films are now 'post marvel' - like a Black Panther film that channeled that trailer for the run time, and pulled no punches like RRR with what it had to say, would be incredible. But I suspect Marvel will just water it down (Numenor pun intended).

That’s me in now, no more trailers please and thank you. Black Panther was a rare thing in the mcu in that it had its themes threaded through the plot and a villain who not only was probably the most interesting thing in it but who you actually kind of sided with at times. The MCU has fairly recently stopped being a property that I watch every second of and actively look forward to but I’ll be there day 1 for this.

Agree on the spoiler, on both parts.  I can’t see them not revealing in the full trailer though.  Spoilers for the comics though;

Shuri does take over the Black Panther mantle at some point, so she seems like the obvious choice, but I’d prefer Okoye.

I can’t see this being true, referencing the spoiler.  I know why it’s being rumoured - it fits in with the comics and some other announcements- but it won’t be a major part of the film.  At most I think it could be referenced post credits.
