It was incredible. I watched the first ep at the weekend and then the other 7 in a big lump this evening.

episode 7 must have been a nightmare with stagehand guys pulling the walls in and out and trying not to have people fall over and smash off things and die. The look of utter despair

Spoiler

On Richie’s face when Sydney was berating him I thought something terrible was going to happen, luckily it was just a stabbing.

Sydney cooking chilean seabass at home was definitely a 4chan shitpost reference.

I thought he was called Carmine until the last episode.

full of money seemed ridiculous in a show otherwise grounded in reality especially since the only sensible thing to do with it is pay back the uncle but I dunno. Platts reaction to all the sleeping kids made me lol, 'are they dead?'

Stuff like that did stick out a bit

Spoiler

like firing the gun in the air bit in episode one, I know America be trippin but that flight of fantasy helped set up the ending for me. It almost does the show a disservice how grounded in reality they make it at times as a result (even though they’re the best bits for me).

Just finished this evening. Brilliant!

I clocked the running time of episode 7 and thought something was up! Highlight of the show.

The ending didn’t make a huge amount of sense to me, but it didn’t perturb me either. The whole thing is so well realised and written.

I’ve never watched a show that so perfectly threads the needle between insane stress and comedy genius without breaking the overall tone of the thing before, and I’ve no idea how they did it, but it worked entirely. This is nothing like the stress porn of a Safdie brothers film, it’s heart is too tender and kind.

I kinda just assumed there would be a second season. If there isn’t, I hope the cast and creatives can continue doing something else together, it’s too good a team to break up.

Watched this recently, and loved it. Thoughts on the ending:

Spoiler

Michael borrowed the money knowing he knew deep down was going to kill himself. He stored it away for Carmy in the hope he’d see the letter, make the recipe and find the money, which he’d then put to good use making the restaurant into something Michael knew he never could.

Appreciate that takes a few leaps of imagination, but maybe Michael knew deep down his death would be motivation for his younger brother, which gave him peace in the darker days before he took his own life.

In some respects I wish this had been a one and done, because it is so tightly made that less could well be more. That said, happy more is on the way because the characters are so watchable.
