Delisted Metal Gear games coming back for the 35th Anniversary

Recently I got a hankering to play Metal Gear Solid 3 again only to find it, along with Metal Gear Solid 2, was delisted from digital stores last year, apparently due to rights issues with some of the archival footage used in the extensive cutscenes.

Well, in recognition of the 35th anniversary of the series, Konami are re-releasing a number of the games back onto digital stores and this is likely to include 2 and 3!

So, to celebrate, let’s all take the opportunity to listen to this fucking classic again:

Yeah, baby! Eat those goddamn tree frogs! SING IT!

Has the MSX original been ported to anything more recent? Or do they happen to mention porting it? I've tried playing it via emulation but it needs a keyboard.

This is Konami so if they do port it to anything, it’ll probably still need keyboard, even on devices that can’t use keyboards.

Yeah, they are.

I have this vague memory from the Subsistence releases of the MSX games that there was some weird issue with something physical being required (a la the back of the box reference from MGS) to progress in one of the games. Did I make that up? And if there was something how did they deal with it in the later release?

I played through the HD collection versions of the MSX games and don't remember having any issues like that. It's been a while though.

Relisting 2 and 3 is fine. Putting Twin Snakes on the stores would be better. Porting 4 to modern hardware would be best.

What we’ll actually get:

Relisting 2 and 3, but only on Stadia.

Twin Snakes in stores but it’s only physical and it’s still the GameCube version

Porting 4 to modern hardware, but it’s only on Ouya and it’s been turned into a pachinko game.

Aren’t the MSX versions of the first 2 games part of the HD Collection set?

There was a section on the excellent Insert Credit podcast the other week where they were debating which game characters would make the best Late Night TV talk show host.

Marcus Fenix was touted, but everyone agreed David Hayter's Snake would rock, he'd just repeat everything his guests said as a question.

I want to watch that show :(

I own the HD collection for at least two platforms and had somehow completely missed this.

I’d be happy if they ported Ghost Babel to a modern console. Twin Snakes is probably a rights nightmare due to it being made with Silicon Knights and Nintendo.

I was planning on doing a replay of Snake Eater soon as I re-bought the HD collection, but with this news I'll hold off for a bit to see if there are any enhancements to the re-release. It's a fantastic game.
