Well, the 4070Ti has been dispatched. In my haste to financially defraud an already indebted economy, I just went for the cheapest one they had, which turned out to be this one. If I ever summon the courage to actually open the box, hopefully it'll turn out to be a good one. I didn't actually check to see if it fits my PC case, either.

Card continues to blow my mind. Was running The Witcher 3 at insane settings, full RT, up to 120fps, DLSS quality, DLSS 3. It looked and ran unbelievably but had random crashes, that's a lot of shit going on even for this beast. Added a little OC to (something I didn't think I'd need with the card atm tbh but...) 2750Mhz max 65C. No crashes and the image and smoothness is sublime. (Perhaps the crashes were just the game being funky but my OC sure didn't hurt)

Yeah it's an oldish game but with the update running it at its utmost peak, well perhaps TAAU instead of DLSS is more of its pinnacle but still, running around a chocka Novigrad with my beautiful hair (on, 8x) and RT reflections everywhere at the speed of hot butter is next level. Being a bit hyperbolic but my eyes don't lie. Didn't think I'd be gaming at 4K 120 RT so soon. I'm on the mead btw.

Incredible card.

I've been sitting here with the Gigabyte 4090 in my Scan basket for the last 20 mins, with my credit card set to Pesos... but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger.

I think as soon as the FE is in stock I am going to go for it.

Just need to wait for it to be back in stock.

What made you wanna jump from your 3080?

Well, my 4070Ti was due to be delivered today, but, of course, I wasn't home, nor will I be tomorrow when they try again, and, given the nature of the parcel, apparently I can't request to pick it up from anywhere, either, so I don't know what's going to happen.

Tune in tomorrow for more exciting postal delivery updates.

If its DPD you can just use the weblink for tracking or the app to request a new date for delivery

Clearly it's us :P . We're too darn pleased with our purchases and all the enthusiasm has rubbed off on them.

We are doing the Lord's work.

I must admit I've been sort of thinking about it for VR purposes. Despite being adamant I wouldn't earlier. The peso exploit almost persuaded me last night til I remembered some moral values. Got a lot of budgeting priorities to work out an order for first!

4k OLED good monitors (that aren't just TVs) coming this year and next, so finally getting off 1440p, and want to be ready for it.

Also sold a bunch of stuff and can hopefully get £500-600 for the 3080, so doesn't feel as expensive as it did.

Ahhhh 1440p, no wonder you were happy with the 3080! It was forcing me to cut down on loads of games at 4k, even trying to hit 60fps in things like Cyberpunk.

The 4090 is not the card you need for 4k, but it is THE 4k 60-120hz balls to the walls ultra settings card. Its an incredible piece of tech and thats without DLSS3 having kicked off. If I am fortunate enough to keep buying the 90 class of cards I'll do so every gen if they keep this huge leap in performance. Even if I only get half my money back selling it every gen, its costing me £30-35 per month to have top tier performance over those two years.

I started looking into upgrading my lowly 5700XT to a 4090, then realised I'd need a new PSU, then my Ryzen 3700X would probably be a bottleneck.

Long story short, I ordered a whole new PC with a 4090, 13th gen i9, 64Gb DDR5 etc.

That should do :)

Indeed! Good choice, my man. Now, make sure you stay ahead of me in ACC (as per usual). 😅 😘

Bollocks. I've just remembered I've only got a 650W PSU. Will the 4070 Ti just flat not work with that?

Cheers! That's a relief.

My CPU is 'only' an AMD Ryzen 5 3600, however, so as and when I upgrade that I'll probably get a more powerful PSU and a different motherboard to boot.

You could probably drop in replace your CPU with a 5800X3D which would be a massive improvement.

So what’s the plan? are you gonna keep it and just budget for them potentially asking you for the difference?

Thanks. I will look up what this means. I've been out of the PC upgrade loop for a while. That CPU would fit the socket in my current mobo, you mean?

I think so. It's not actually being delivered now until Friday, and then I won't be able to install it until Sunday, so I'll see if there's any pushback between now and then. If not, I'll probably just keep it and try not to feel too bad about exploiting the loophole. I haven't had any contact from my bank, Scan, PayPal or Argentinian gangsters trying to shake me down, and I haven't read about any repercussions. It's all gone a bit quiet...

and what about when a destitute Argentinian banker turns up at the door asking for alms? What then?

They can have my old GPU :hat:

It's a really good gaming CPU.

which puts its gaming performance somewhere between the i9-12900K and the i9-13900K.

It would absolutely fit the socket, but your Motherboard will need to support it, many have had BIOS updates to do so. If you know which you have post it here and I'll have a look.

It's an AS Rock B450M, I believe.
