It's drop-tastic over here, loads coming on from BB. I cant think why...lol? ;)

Must hold out for an FE though!

FE is worth it! No dodgy reports, incredible cooler etc

Been playing God of War maxed out completely DLSS Quality and power consumption wise, it usually hits 200-250watts with the odd spike to less than 290 while still holding 2700mhz consistently

It's a beast and a power efficient one too

It may be slower than the 4090, as well as $600 cheaper!, but it makes a complete mockery of the 4080 at $1200.

Fuck knows we need something to keep Nvidia in check before we have $800 60 series cards.

Not in RT it doesn't, which is becoming more and more common in games going forward. And if you don't need RT, then you don't actually need the next gen of gpus anyway, the 30 series is fine there

It's the better raster option but nvidia isn't being kept in check if AMD's current halo product is such a distance behind

Given the moaning that the now unlaunched 12GB RTX 4080 had essentially what would have traditionally been a 60-class sized die, and they wanted $900+ for that, you're already too late to stop the future :P

RTX 2060 6GB - 445 mm²

RTX 3060 12GB - 276 mm²

RTX 4080 12GB - 295 mm²

Nvidia's even fucking you over on the amount of silicon they are selling you now.

AMD are going to be competitive in 'Ray Tracing is enabled honest' mode.

I genuinely think Ray Tracing is a just a bit of a gimmick in so many games at the moment. Also playing something like Plague Tale: Requiem I kept thinking if it needed a patch later on to add it then as far as art direction goes that means it was more of an afterthought and could even make particular scenes look different to the feel of what was intended.

DLSS on the other hand, that's a different story, and makes such a massive difference to mid range performance especially I'm not sure what I'd have done without it.

You're entirely correct, but that's because most games are forced to support weak and/or legacy hardware. If only you could design games around RT, then the technology would be given the chance to show its transformative powers. Only one developer has done that so far, 4A Games and all their games going forward are RT hardware only.

I'm rather annoyed that yet again CDPR have fucked up by not having this damn thing ready yet. It's supposed to be this crown jewel to show off the 4090 in all its glory, yet they've been absolutely schtum about what's going on with it. I understand they've got a lot going on at the moment, but I guarantee nVidia have paid them a nice lot of money to do this, yet once again they've seemingly failed to deliver.

CDPR have almost used up all that goodwill I've had for them over the years.

Seems strange to blame CDPR for not having a feature ready in a game to test out an extremely expensive luxury item, that very few people actually own, that's sold by another company.

Of course it is! I’m a middle-aged white man who feels terribly entitled and this is effectively the worst thing ever.

Please don’t take my post above as being wholly serious, for god’s sake!

I’d just rather like to see it!

Personally it was that Unity Enemies demo that got my futuristic graphics boner going.

It’s a very impressive demo. The more I run it the more you notice just how much is going on with it. I doubt they will, but it would be a good one for Digital Foundry to do something on really.

If nVidia had paid them though to produce something (I don't know if that is the case, of course) then I don't think it's unreasonable to query what is happening with it.

Apparently, nobody gets paid any actual money to implement vendor specific features. Seems more a win-win for both parties. They push your game for free, you push their hardware features for free or they buy some copies of your game to bundle with their hardware and parachute in some engineers to help you get it working.

A Google brought up this old PC Gamer article which talks about the subject:

It's just a non-interactive cutscene designed to show off Unity's ability to be used in the film industry, like UE already can be and is. Not exactly the future of game graphics, unless people have suddenly fallen back in love with non-interactive cutscenes, though they are the graphics whore's best friend as you can't beat them for the actual bleeding edge state of the art in rendered in real-time visual fidelity.

Well, I am most definitely a graphics whore. Were I not, then I’m fairly sure my bank balance wpuld look considerably hea;thier than it does ;) .

I still find it a real buzz to see something like this running on hardware that I own, as opposed to it just being a video or some such. It’s a bit daft really, but there we go.

I still don't know how to get this card to hit its mythical 450watt power sucking status. I wonder if the FE is just really fucking good at regulating power usage.

1 hour of cyberpunk at 4k maxed out with psycho RT and DLSS Quality hits less than 390watts max:

Personally love a good tech demo too, wish they'd release all of them for members of the public to run on their own hardware as a matter of course.

Both Unity and Epic have done some pretty impressive ones over the years to show off their engine features.

Shame even the graphics card companies have stopped doing them aswell, though Nvidia are going to release Racer RTX soon if anybody wants another fancy Ray Tracing fix.
