What I have found out is that DLSS 3 and Overdrive raytracing isn't there yet for Cyberpunk, which was a bit of a surprise! Apparently it's coming later? I dunno - it looks amazing nonetheless, but I'm keen to see how it performs with the extra stuff going on!

Ooh I'll wait for the overdrive mode then. In the meantime Plague Tale on gamepass maxed out will do just finnnnee sir.

And I can play God of War on PC now before 2 comes out! It's gonna be weird to have a GPU for the first time that is genuinely hit max everything, lock screen to refresh rate and forget about it. Niiicccee

Got some maintenance work to do on the PC before it gets here :) Replace the 750watt PSU with the 1000 I bought a lil while ago and figure out the mess of cabling 4 x PCI gpu connectors! But I can't wait. S95B and Cyberpunk 4090 driven weekend incoming!!!

Shopping for a new PSU at the moment, which one did you go for?

I got the EVGA G6 supernova 1000w gold rated. Uses a seasonic PSU

For two reasons, was £130 at the time which was reasonable for a highly rated 1000w supply and because I already have a EVGA G3 750 so I can keep the same wires (bar the GPU ones as I will need four) plugged into the PC without gutting the system.

I'd probably get a reasonably price ATX 3.0 one if I was buying today just to save on the hassle of buying a cablemod cable for a cleaner look (or a corsair one and the adaptor they sell).

The Arc arrived!

It's a tad longer than the mini GTX 1660 it's replacing:

838156072_IntelArcA750vsminiGTX1660.thumb.jpg.a3fc831fd5616ea8ab03143cf930bda6.jpg

I prepared for it in advance, with my BIOS updated to support resizable BAR (hurrah for my three year old X570 and 3700X combo being just modern enough to support it), and setting DDU to get to work a few minutes before the card arrived. Installing it was pleasantly painless (no issues with it e.g. failing to output video to my screen, making it significanly easier than both the RTX 2080 Ti and the GTX 1660 I previously installed, both of which needed me to hook the PC up to an ancient HDMI-only monitor and install up to date drivers before they'd deign to output to my ultrawide via either HDMI or Displayport; in this, I've actually had the opposite experience to a few of the reviewers I've seen of the Arc cards), and I've now got the up to date drivers and software installed and it seems to be running happily.

Three observations to make so far:

1. As I've seen mentioned elsewhere, the card has yer standard 'fans stop at idle' behaviour... until you install the non-generic drivers, at which point they constantly spin (albeit silently). Hopefully this is a short-term bug, because there's no reason to add that wear and tear to the fans.

2. As also mentioned elsewhere, the overlay software is obnoxious (particularly on e.g. an ultrawide screen). It takes up a fixed visual space on the screen, can't be moved, and prevents interaction with anything else while it's open; it should either be a window, or a permeable overlay, not something which takes the worst of both worlds. Fortunately, I don't see myself spending much time in here.

3. Having gotten everything ready to install the card as soon as it arrived, I was looking forward to testing it on Total Warhammer III — a DX11 game which hovers in the low 30s on my 1660. Alas, I can't actually give any results of that test just now, because... I forgot I'd uninstalled it to make space on the drive to backup a friend's data for them while they were between machines  I'll post an update once the 110gb download is done. I can confirm that the card runs Return to Monkey Island perfectly, which I'm sure will come as a shock to everyone ;) (though I do note that some small visual glitches that were present when playing on the 1660 are missing here, so that's nice)

How are you getting on with the Intel card?

Surprisingly well! It's obviously not as capable as my old 2080Ti, but I've not yet run afoul of any instability, nor any games dramatically underperforming. It is, as one might hope, significantly more capable than the 1660.

Even "non-ideal" DX11 stuff like Total Warhammer III is doing nicely; averaging very high 50s at full res, very high+ settings across the board; approx an 90% improvement on the 1660. It probably helps that I'm at 3440 x 1440; high enough that the card's gearing is in its favour, not so high that the sheer number of pixels renders its advantage irrelevant.

It's hardly a "future-proofed" card,* but for the price it's doing a decent job, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Intel support it. The only real downsides to it at the moment are the immature software. Oh, and the lack of gsync equivalent hurts a little — there doesn't seem to be a proper VRR option. That said, it looks like there are "meant" to be six different options for adjacent functions in the software, but only three are available, which seem to be simply vsync toggles: always on, always off, and "smart" (on only when framerate drops). Hopefully something will roll out sooner than later, as my overpriced gsync-compatible monitor is feeling rather underserved in this department!

*unless maturing drivers dramatically boost performance, which I suppose isn't entirely outside the realm of possibility

Kinda OT but I'm thinking a lot of the folks using Oled tvs for pc gaming are on this thread.

I picked up a 42in C2 last week intending to us eit for the Series x and older PC games.

Yesterday I rearranged my study to use the Oled as my main monitor. I can't game on my IPS anymore, it looks terrible in comparison.

1080p games upscaled on the 4k, 42in TV have much better image quality than native resolution on my IPS monitor. In fact I would recommend anyone who is thinking of upgrading their graphics card but who are still using lcd displays to put the money towards an Oled display instead. I honestly think you will get a bigger boost in image quality by upgrading your display instead of your graphics card.

I have been completely gob smacked since I got this TV, you really do have to see and play games on an Oled to appreciate what a leap in quality over lcd they are.

Too late. Just in time for rolling blackouts. At least it'll keep my house warm.

Welcome to the mad house

The unboxing process is very nice eh @JoeK Just need to swap out the PSU's either today or tomorrow and then time to see to what being CPU limited at 4k looks like LOL

Still waiting on an invite over here. Best Buy did a normal stock drop online yesterday but didn't get one unfortunately. Definitely enforces my view that Nividia have the stock and are purposefully trickling them out. Next few weeks or sooner should turn up. And the invite system seems absolutely random from various  golden ticket winners who have commented.

Awesome. I might just try this. Have it open and refresh every so often.

That's the way. Join a discord alerts group or two. Maybe a community on Telegram. Occasionally wake up at like 3am because you dreamed you got a notification that they were in stock.

Yeah I’m now getting flashbacks to trying to get a PS5… the alert sound and the max panic.

Not to me...yet!

Proper comedy over here, if you buy on newegg and go to checkout it shows you how many others also have it in their basket. 850+ for an MSI card that came back in to stock very briefly earlier.

That's a very pretty looking system @Uzi!

Although I'm looking at the CPU cooler cable and thinking it's very close to that 4090 fan :P . Sure it's an optical illusion though!

My CPU cooler lives dangerously (its close but can't touch the fan unless I physically push the cooler cable down myself)

4090 installed. Wtf? Did I skip a few generations? OK, this thing was stupidly expensive and I could only afford it thanks to a recent dead-relative related windfall. It's completely out of the realms of normality for most people or me at any other time of my life. But holy fuck. Cyberpunk is on max settings, 4k, with Psycho RT and Screen space reflections, and it's running like a ten year old game. And DLSS3 isn't even out yet!

One thing - I'm using the power adapter, I connected 3 PCIE 8 pins to it as the manual says "at least 3" and I'm a bit concerned about it overclocking on my 850w PSU if I connect 4. Is that the right thing to do? Should I connect 4 and just hope for the best?

Unglamourous glamour shot. Case is a Corsair 5000D. It fits pretty nicely.

Three is fine. All four allows you to do is push past 100 percent on power (to go above 450watts) on afterburner if you want it to have more juice than stock. I think gamers nexus made a video about it.

If you look at your afterburner it will be locked to 100 percent (which is where I leave it but for your info since I have 4 plugged in for redundancies sake)

But yeah this is the first GPU I've ever bought in recent years that just fucking laughs at anything you throw at it. I popped on Forza Horizon last night and this is a game that would dip below 60fps on my 3080 at times, and it handled my fps cap of 117fps completely maxed out on extreme settings without dipping a single moment as far as I could tell. It wasn't even hitting 100 percent gpu usage lol wtf

Thanks, that's really useful. I wasn't intending to buy one but I got the mail from Scan about buying one for RRP after recently seeing them going for silly money on Ebay. I had a bit of cash come my way so I thought why not. Treat yo'self.

It's absurdly faster than my 3080, which is still completely fine and a great card. Think I'll pause Cyberpunk until the DLSS3 update which is apparently coming soon, then get the ultimate experience of that 6/10 mess of a game. My PC monitor is ultrawide nearly-4k 160hz, so this seems like a great pairing.
