Yeah, according to their forums they’ve just massively oversold again. This time they’re apparently not proactively announcing it.

This is exactly why i said fuck em lol. I thought they would allow over ordering and then tie up and hold peoples money for weeks while they wait for stock to come in.

@Lying Cat I didn't think I would ever experience tech related PTSD, but out of desperation I loaded up Very.co.uk to see if they have any MSI 4090s

Nope, nuh-uh. I'm never going to go back to those dark days. I'm not going run around after GPUs this time - I'm going to sit here patiently and politely wait for Nvidia to deem me ready to get fucked so hard in the arse that my credit card falls out of my mouth.

At this point it only remains to buy some popcorn and watch how AMD thrill us with their offerings for the season.

Apparently the new 40xx drivers also result in some pretty huge gains for 30xx cards, so there's that.

Would be good to have a full list of games that benefit but havent seen one yet.

edit:

Just catching up, got a bit distracted yesterday. Anyone have any joy? I bet @Lying Catgot the lot! Oh...

I was patiently waiting for the FE but didn't have the 'secret' add to cart link that got sent round before 6am for the special ppl, I now have it along with everyone else no doubt?! Had three others (MSI, Gigabyte etc) to buy in various carts but I didn't go for it as I really just want the FE if I'm honest and happy to wait.

I see Nvidia are sending out links to buy via GeForce Experience today to a lucky few also so fingers crossed for us all. Definitely more stock floating about (here at least) it seems though. I'm currently sat in the checking things queue on BestBuy...again. ;)

So.

I was idly looking at this thread, and @Len casually mentions Geforce Exp. sending out emails.

I thought I'd have a quick look at my emails on the phone...nothing there.

But then I thought...hang on, let's just have a look at the junk messages.

And then this happened:

The bank really wasn't happy about doing it, but nonetheless I told them in no uncertain terms I am an idiot.

So. I'm getting a 4090 on monday then.

I owe Len a drink, because quite honestly I'd not even have thought about reading my junk had I not seen your post and as the time you've got to do it was by the 17th October, no doubt I'd have had this completely pass me by.

I am both a poorer man, but a happy man for all this.

So: moral of the story is - check your junk mail folks!

OMG WTF HOW CONGRATS I MEAN BUT HOW I DONT HAVE THE EMAIL WHY I USE GEFORCE TOO JEENNNNSSSEEEEEEEEEEEN

What was the subject of the email in case I am missing it in my blind insanity (btw dude your full name is in there might want to edit it out gaming discussion is public)

Thanks for the heads-up on my name. Not that I really care, but I guess I'll take it out just to be safe...don't want any of you ne'er-do-wells pretending to be me :P

Look at the fancy pants 'verified gamer' we've got here then. ;)

To be honest, I have a nagging feeling it's because I've bought so many fucking cards directly from them.

They look at me and think: 'SUCKER'.

And well, they're spot on with that appraisal.

Seems like a strange method of distribution, though. I mean, it sort of keeps Scalpers at bay - but with all the AI power at their disposal, I still can't help but feel that having a pre-order list and then having their caged AIs work out who's buying loads seems better.

You would think they could simply limit it to one gpu per bank card per address,  surely that can't be that hard!

I think if you're scalping in general you've already found a simple solution to the different address problem.

The whole thing is a race between retailers and scalpers. Add Captcha to your site to detect bots... a service exists to solve these automatically. Add checks for different cards... services exist for virtual cards. And so on.

And the problem is that for the most part retailers don't care. A sale to a real end user or to someone reselling on eBay nets them exactly the same profit. So there's not much incentive to spend money trying to put up new roadblocks to scalpers with bots.

But I'd argue that's not the case for platform holders (be they console manufacturers or Nvidia). They can and should care about the experience of their consumers (at least in a reasonably competitive marketplace) and work to provide a purchasing route that is at least reliable and fair even if not quite the fastest for the very lucky few who do beat a bot in the free for all.

@thesnwmn is pretty much dead on when it comes to the retailers. Sales are sales, and the faster the sales the better as far as they're concerned as nobody wants stock racking up and waiting to go out the door. Nobody is going to invest money into any sort of serious protection from bot swarms devouring stock. It isn't fun, but after this launch and the 30-series, it's pretty clear that you need to mark availability/actual launch months from the corporate launch in your mental calendar and go with that instead.

Interestingly, I've barely seen any 4090FEs on ebay - perhaps I've lost the ability to actually find things, but perhaps the hope is that they made their way to people who actually want to use them rather than flip them for profit?

Nvidia prob held stock back for their geforce invite system. I doubt many were sold online

Why did they call the architecture Ada Lovelace? It wasn't "Alan Turing" or "André-Marie Ampère" was it? Too sexy for Jensen?

I know she clearly wasn't one, but all I ever think of when I read that name is a 70s porn star :(
