This is out today, apparently, and for less than tenner too (at least, the switch version is). There are no reviews ... is this going to shit on the legacy of classic game, or really Enhance the experience of revisiting it?

I plan on giving it a shot, anyone else taking a punt?

Wait what? I loved the original back in the day! Which platforms?

PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. Really pleasantly surprised at the price - £7.99 on PS and Xbox, and a few pence more on Switch. Lack of reviews is a concern, but I'll give it a go at that price no doubt as I have very fond memories of the original.

I think I put the video of the fuck awful 'video enhancements' they had done in bennys thread... If it still looks like that, it looks atrocious!

Just get the original from Gog!

It looked like this

🤮

Get the original on GoG.

I didn't realise the original was available now! I had heard rumblings for ages but completely missed it somehow. Thanks for the heads-up.

It's genuinely terrible. All the higher framerate does is make the aged CG look worse.

And it's supposed to look like a film segment, not an in-game cutscene.

It might sound like I'm being a purist, but having played the GoG version recently, one of the best things about it is the way the game tries to recreate the cinematic language of the original Blade Runner film. By altering the framerate of animated sequences, the developers demonstrate very little understanding of how that illusion works.

Just had a quick bash on switch version in handheld. No way cutscenes are 60fps in this version. More like 30 or less. Tbh my preference for this game would be handheld as you wouldn't want it being displayed on a much bigger screen anyway.

Shouldn't it be 24fps? 🤔

It's exactly like that godawful auto-frame insertion you get on TVs that everyone with taste turns off. Except in this case it looks like they've baked it in.

I've got a mate that deliberately puts this on for movies with his two-grand OLED. I'm unsure if he's trolling me, but I think he thinks it actually looks good?! 🤦‍♂️

This could be a technical limitation of the Switch. Which could paradoxically make it a better version, if it retains a more correct cinematic frame-rate for the cutscenes.

Barely looks any different to me.

Did Westwood ever claim the 15fps cutscenes were an attempt to capture the feel of the movie? I'd have thought that was more down to storage space at the time if anything. I'd assume the movie was 24fps for a start.

Is there something I’m not understanding about shooting? Press ZL to draw your weapon, and the reticule changes - so far so good - shoot with ZR - ok, fine - but then sometimes your man doesn’t actually fire.

Is there a reload button? Or is it just a bit janky?

turn out , the gog version of the EE, also includes the ORIGINAL!!!! clearly, the way to go!

Having now read the below, do NOT buy the game from GOG.

They are forcing you to give nightdive money for their fuck awful version, if you want  the original version which is bundled with it. There is no way to legally buy the original version without giving money to a studio that has done a frankly terrible job.

https://www.eurogamer.net/popular-fan-made-blade-runner-restoration-relegated-to-controversial-enhanced-edition-add-on

"Over a number of years, I, along with friends, lovingly reverse engineered Westwood's Blade Runner for ScummVM, reviving the game and helping GOG to release the game for sale once again. For this we have asked for and received nothing but the honour of the work

Now Nightdive Studios has released their 'Enhanced' version. It is, by all accounts, ugly and buggy, and offers no tangible benefits over ScummVM aside from very poor console support. They even forgot to credit me for the subtitles we let them use.

Sadly, it is now no longer possible to purchase and play a digital copy of Blade Runner in ScummVM without sending money to Nightdive Studios. I'm sad to see GOG relegate our free work to a mere attachment on somebody else's mediocre paid product."

Just got this copy, and initial reaction is that the original looks better. The EE looks like someone ran a blur filter over it.  Its a relatively minor thing but the pause menu in the EE is horrible compared to the original's Bladerunner themed one. They've just changed it into generic rectangles.

I'm pretty sure it's just janky. Not long since I played the PC version and didn't experience any problems but I had exactly the same thing doing the shooting gallery on my Xbox just now.
