I like Neville, but Hislop is spot-on, it's a terrible defence. He's made a bit of a rod for his own back there too, in that if he doesn't now regularly challenge the situation - in commentary, as he says there - then he will lose what remaining credibility he has. And that would be a shame, because he did some sterling work during the superleague debacle, over gambling and probably other stuff I've forgotten.

Aye that doesn't really look like a natural position for his arm to be. He's swung it backwards quite intentionally by the looks of it

He's jumping forward (he's a wee guy too). Are you supposed to jump with your arms by your sides?

The Neville thing...he's very giggly isn't he. Couldn't he say he's not doing it for the money as he's giving it all away to charity and he couldn't necessarily get a commentary job elsewhere? (Dunno if that's true or that he needs to do that job). He's obviously not going to bring anything up that will get him sacked so he looks silly saying it.

Maybe not everyone thinks the same but it's the same argument as Frankie Boyle gave with being asked about writing for The Sun, in that the Observer and The Guardian supported the Iraq war so in his eyes there are no good mainstream newspaper outlets. Ultimately he wrote for The Sun because they let him write whatever he wanted and didn't think much of it. He'd say 'I could slip in stuff that perhaps might change some minds' but he knew that wasn't true. Because of his previous alcoholism he went overboard with the hate towards Mark Watson for doing a ciders advert, and Watson was baffled, like 'well I mainly write novels now and those adverts allowed me to financially do that, and I like that beer, people like beer, I couldn't understand it'.

You've got Bill Hicks hating on marketing ('if you're in marketing, kill yourself, no really kill yourself' etc) while Bill Burr happily advertises stuff on his podcast, it's always odd that someone who is so honest all the time puts on his selling voice, though he makes fun of the products too and doesn't do the nauseating 'I use this myself all the time and love it'.

tldr where's the line for people

I don't know why Neville would agree to it when he knew how people would see it, the money can't make a significant difference to his business empire. And is it not better that if he genuinely is fine with it and can argue it (he's elaborated more in interviews) that he doesn't just not do something because of fear of how others see it.

Chelsea fans on Potter's back already seems a bit harsh. He's only lost 2 games I think. It took over 2 years for his process to bear any sort of consistency in terms of results. Appreciate Chelsea have better players than Brighton with maybe one or two exceptions but the process will be long.

I think with the emergency of City people forgotten that there’s another absolutely terrible football club that’s fun to criticise too.

Im not sure City are historically a terrible football club, their owners are for sure but Chelsea have always been a terrible football club…

Can't believe Gerrard didn't hang on for a few more games :quote:

Gerrard was still at high school the last time Villa beat Manchester United in the league at Villa Park.  It was the famous “you don’t win anything with kids” game.  Those fuckers have had so much joy in B6 over the years that they could get stitched up in every subsequent game until the heat death of the universe and they’d still come out ahead.
