bradigor
He was about to stop it when Liverpool had the ball but changed his mind when Arsenal won it back despite Odegaard(?) At the time holding his head on the ground.

Gabe
I've been saying for ages in the Liverpool thread that so many teams had reinforced over the summer and that any gap between Liverpool and the others was nowhere near as big as many said. I didn't think the team would be as bad as they are, but I'm not surprised at all the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and hell, even Man Utd have been much more competitive. I'm sure much will be made of some interesting decisions in this game, but I don't think Liverpool can really complain in general about how the season is going. I'm actually almost glad that rubbish in my personal life means that football has been very much a "It's only a game" for me for a few months now, because otherwise this would be making me very sad! bradigor
Arsenal deserved that we were dreadful and it needs to change soon or even UEFA Cup is out the window. We look spent and chasing City has taken its toll. Good luck to the next team to try it.

skadupuk
Palace's winner from today, a great team goal but especially great for Eze as he's been clawing his way back from an achilles injury and despite coming back last year it's only really this year he's been back to his old self. I love to watch players who clerly love the game, and you can see how much the goal means to him. He was dropped from 4 accademies before being picked up by QPR, and he often talks about the pain he felt and how grateful he is to have a career.
glb
Love watching Eze, he looks so elegant on the ball. Great he’s come back from a pretty horrendous injury, and is playing well again.
feltmonkey
Pretty inconsistent stuff from the VAR team today, allowing two West Ham goals to stand despite the scorers handling the ball, and then disallowing Rashford's goal for exactly the same offense. Really weird, and I'd love to hear them try to explain it, because I'm mystified.
ChewMagma
Well Scamacca's goal it isn't clear and obvious that he has touched the ball and Antonio's goal he handled the ball in a preceding phase of play, but scored in a later phase of play so it can't be disallowed under the current rules. So there you go. Rashford handles the ball in the same phase of play he scores in which is why it is disallowed. Imo they should all be allowed and VAR needs to get in the bin. JohnC
Apparently something is wrong with the Uefa fixture list and they say to disregard it until a new one is issued. Ireland, Scotland and Wales were told. Don't know about others.

It's completely obvious that Scamacca handles it. Not the second time it bounces up, but the first. The ball hits his hand and you can clearly see it move his fingers. Phases of play is something that is only mentioned in the laws of the game in relation to offside decisions - the handball law only mentions a player handling the ball in the build-up to a goal, which Antonio absolutely did. I agree with you that all three goals should stand, as none of them handled the ball deliberately, Rashford and Antonio couldn't possibly have avoided handling it, and none gained any sort of advantage. The only "handball" that even changed the direction of the ball was Antonio's, but the ball would have hit his stomach so most likely would have ended up the same anyway. The law as written makes no sense really, that's the first problem. Consider this - if Rashford had squared it to Bruno for him to tap it in, the goal would have stood. The second problem is the implementation, where they aren't applying the law consistently. The handball law has spiralled out of control in recent seasons as they've tried to take all the subjectivity out of it, to the game's detriment.
Naysonymous
Letter of the law vs spirit of the law is an issue which VAR has absolutely made worse than it was before.

Stopharage
Jeez, that’s very sudden. He was playing against Leicester a month or so ago. Really sorry for the guy, he was terrific against us and had real potential. Brighton are very good at supporting ex-players so I’d imagine they’ll bring him into the fold in a coaching capacity if he wants that. Sad news but could have been an altogether more tragic ending if this hadn’t been spotted.

I suppose the positive is that it was discovered like this rather than him collapsing on the pitch, but I guess that's scant consolation for someone who has just had their career cruelly taken away.

ckny
What do they even need that many stadia for anyway? There's a max of 4 games per day. Why isn't 4 enough?

You don't want all those fans compressed into such a small space, for a number of reasons (available hotel capacity, pressure on infrastructure and transport, potential fan clashes etc).
