Other than qualifying outright, a team's specific placing here is irrelevant when it comes to the playoffs - Ireland could lose all eight matches and still be there. They're decided by Nations League performance. Leagues A, B and C all have their own playoff and we know the teams who have guaranteed spots there, but if they qualify automatically, it goes to the next best team in that league who has not qualified, and so on.

Ireland will be guaranteed a playoff if either:

  • Six of the nine teams above them in League B qualify for the Euros directly (Ireland will be in the League B playoffs)
  • 22 of the 25 teams above Ireland either qualify direct, or are involved in the League B playoffs (Ireland will be in the League A playoffs)

That second one is a little tricky to work out. If League A can't fill its playoffs, a space first goes to Estonia as League D champions, then to League B. Germany have already qualified, of course, so there's 21 more spaces to go.

It is, of course, a bollocks of a system. I'd have much preferred it if the Nations League group winners got first dibs on any playoffs, and then it went to the qualifying performance, because any system where you can progress in spite of your recent performance is a broken one.

Palace v Leeds is a thriller.

Palace fucking dreadful for the first 10, Leeds nick a goal and then start time wasting, a baffling choice with 80 minutes left on the clock.

Palace get one back from an Edouard header, not really deserved but kama for the time wasting.

Rest of it has been shit, nether team looks like doing anything to excite the crowd.

What the fuck has gone on with Iker Casillas and Puyol?

It appears Casillas came out as gay on Twitter, but then it seems him and Puyol were just having 'banter'.

Not sure what is actually going on, but if it is a joke then it could be very damaging for gay players who were considering coming out.

How come we have a late Sunday night game today? That's unusual.

Europa League commitments plus Man Utd always getting picked for the telly.

I think it goes something like, originally scheduled for Saturday and BT Sport picked it for broadcast.  They have two slots 12.30pm Saturday or 7pm Sunday.  The Saturday slot would have been less than 48 hours after Man Utds game in Cyprus, so the 7pm slot comes into play.

I thought it was a big leap forward for the sport, but this could be the exact opposite, especially seeing the amount of homophobia it has brought out from the woodwork.

Sadly it always happens whenever a club posts a supportive post of LGBTQ+ rights; always gets the troglodytes responding with their abhorrent shite.

Think thats his new position…

How wasnt that a pen, unnatural position and guilty defender pointing to his chest having had the ball hit is outstretched hand…

Not sure why it wasn't given, Gabriel is prone to giving away penalties

There was no early game yesterday because United played Thursday night and BT wanted to show them, so moved the match to Sunday night instead.
