Football thread 2022/23

Ireland have defended very well in the first half, only Kolo Muani really getting a good opportunity but his touch took him wide. Bazunu hasn't had a save to make.

Nor has Maignan, but that's to be expected.

That'll go down as a heroic defeat. Cullen's wayward pass was pounced on by Pavard who gave Bazunu no chance, but other than that France didn't have many chances. Ireland kept it calm, kept France from running off with the game, then Kenny's changes looked to grab the equaliser.

And Maignan won France the game with a fantastic late save from Nathan Collins.

It's not this sort of game where Ireland struggle though, they lift themselves for opponents of this calibre. It's the games against the weaker nations where, particularly at home, Ireland struggle. Qualification from the group was a tall order from the moment the draw was made, and this defeat hasn't changed that. Greece away in June, that's where Ireland need to step up.

Can't get over how unlucky we are with these long range efforts. Sickening when one flies in and you're playing Armenia but for France to have to rely on something like that to win is brutal.

That one he made right at the end was incredible. Felt we were worth something in the second half and it's a real heartbreaker to lose to such a cheap goal.

I find it hard to classify this as a long range strike, but maybe that's just because it was from 20 yards instead of the customary 30.

Outside the box is a long range strike I think it's fair to say.

It's just the Rangers assistant manager trying to headbutt the Celtic manager in the women's derby after Celtic scored a 99th minute equaliser. Lovely guy I bet!

This match was shown on sky sports main event, one of the biggest platforms the SWPL has had.

what a punk bitch. Literally every girl on the pitch could have thrown a less embarrassing headbutt than that. He should retire in shame.

Yeah... he's weaker than a girl!

it's not about strength it's about cowardice, creeping up behind the guy and nudging him with his head. In the video you can see one of the Celtic players running up getting ready to kick his head in cos she has self respect.

Anyhoo, enough about Scotland's Shame on our day of triumph

He's even more cowardly than a girl!  I get it.

Just challenging your unconscious bias :hmm:

Do you both get to many women's games? We've got a thread and everything. Get on it. Tickets are cheap (apart from stupid West Ham) and the game is fun.

I've been to some Argyle Ladies games.  Don't  bloody well tar me with the same brush as Mr Misogyny up there.  I might be an irrational Liverpool hater* but that's no excuse :blah:

Do women's games have segregation? Or do you just buy tickets direct from the home club and sit wherever?

Both of the Merseyside derbies this season has away sections, which was great for atmosphere, but there is no actual segregation at all upto the WSL level.

We are at West Ham this weekend and all parts of the stadium are open for all.

The only issue* is you need to register in each teams own site to buy tickets.

*The game at Goodison last week was the first time we were able to buy away tickets from LFC direct, due to Everton providing an away section.

I must admit, Argyle aren't that great with the women's team but, they've put cash in to take over our athletics "stadium" for the academy and the women's team so it might become more popular and that will attract better players. I hope so, you see a lot more women at the men's home games recently.

My mate's daughter is a current England under 16 international and she is likely to be going to Chelsea. She won't play for Argyle. The facilities are terrible at the moment.

Her cousin Jack has one League 1 appearance for us.
