The missed penalty decided it in the end and United got the winner they should have got from the handball that wasn’t given. Wrexham have made a good amount of money from two televised games and hopefully Mullins isn’t too badly injured because Notts County are looking relentless at the top of the National League.

Wrexham are 3pts behind but have two games in hand. They could be level on points with two games in hand on Saturday evening as Notts County are away at Chesterfield and Wrexham are at home to Wealdstone.

The Notts County game is on BT Sport so they could well start that game in 2nd place on goal difference.

Given Wrexham's resources and support, they should go up and I wouldn't be surprised if they go up again fairly quickly. They've been signing League 1 standard players for quite a while. They're sponsored by Tik Tok, are increasing their capacity and have wealthy owners for that level. Loads of clubs wanted to sign Mullin before he went to Wrexham. Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden, Calum McFazdean, Olly Palmer, James Jones and Mullin would all be regular starters at League 1 clubs. They've signed a very strong starting 11. Phil Parkinson is also a top manager.

They'll be a great addition to the EFL and good luck to them.

To illustrate your point further, with everyone fit, McFazdean is our second choice left wingback and James Jones not a regular starter for us. It's not just the first 11 that should be playing for a football league side. My hope is that this depth ultimately gives us the edge over Notts County, but they're not showing much sign of relenting. They're an unbelievable side that are breaking their own records and should go up too. I think it would be travesty if only one of us got promoted.

A different type of game to the first last night that Sheffield United largely dominated, but I loved seeing us going toe to toe with a top team again, coming incredibly close to actually beating them, and how rattled they were. Particularly how rattled they were. We were ace. Love the FA Cup. League games tend to fade and merge into one another, but big FA Cup games vividly remain in your brain. Spurs might have been another one of those, but fuck it never mind, all focus on the league now.

Go Grimsby!

Pep who said he’d leave if his owners were lying to him. Wonder if he’ll stick to that if they are found guilty on any of the charges?*

Although, that might be the only consequence that would really punish the club.

*spoilers: he won’t.

The keeper was hugely at fault there.  It's like those old episodes of the A-Team where you have to give Hannibal and co credit for building an armoured vehicle to escape from whatever room they'd been locked in, but wonder what the fuck the bad guys were thinking when they left them in a room with a tank, some welding equipment and a bunch of guns.

Palace away tomorrow. They’re in a slump and, Bournemouth aside, we’ve been free scoring.

So 1-0 to Palace then (Mateta 85’)

I'll bever forget the year we took 4 points off you with these stats.

But, we've been absolutely dreadful and whilst that normally means the football gods provide a gift, I just can't see it.

On the up side I've finished my post Xmas diet so I can have Morley's and beer to numb the pain.

DeZerbi ball at least has the advantage of more goals over Potterball.

It is astounding to me that the press are wondering whether Chelsea need to bring in goal scorers like its some sort of mysterious new phenomenon.

No Zaha today, always a big player in the M23 "Derby" (quotation marks for those who get stressy about the distance between the teams)

I'm really not looking forward to it (most fans seem a bit doom and gloom about the game), it's just not been clicking of late and there's definitely a lack of leadership and fight on the pitch, someone on the Palace forum pointed out that there's really not many playing  that will  get the importance of the game to the fans.

We are in the middle of a very tough run of games and as such the atmosphere has been grumbly but begrudgingly accepting the results if not the lightweight nature of the performances, I'm not sure what a signifciant loss to Brighton does to that but it might tip it towards being the toxic.

I'm going 3-1 to Brighton, with the Palace goal coming in the 95th minute as a pointless conselation.

I had a painful reminder that we have rarely won at Selhurst (winning twice since 1984).

I'd expect Palace to at least get a point out of this if not all three.

Can anyone else understand why with Graham Potter in charge at Chelsea they are failing to score many goals.

A mystery for the ages.

TBF to him it was all beginning to come together at the beginning of this season and then he left. That said, De Zerbi has got a lot more goals out of the same players so ...

Only three miles or so less between Anfield and Old Trafford, which many consider one of the biggest rivalries/derbies on the planet (when we all know it’s Norwich and Ipswich’s Old Farm derby)

I like any derby, although feels like Brighton Palace is rarely televised, despite being a pretty charged fixture.

Was handball but evens out (isn't that what they all say?) the decision to wipe off Cornet's goal at the Bridge earlier in the season.

Soucek was diabolical, Moyes doesn't deserve to be managing due to his negativity and we were pathetic for the most part. Plus, injuries to Paqueta and Aguerd. Not a good day IMO.
