Refs never set the bar properly in Derby games, there is some odd idea that you should be allowed to put leg breakers in on the opposition if they are rivals.

So often it ends with some really stupid decisions in the second half from refs.

Edit: And even so, they've only had big money to spend in two transfer windows, versus many for the likes of Chelsea, City, Man Utd, Liverpool etc, so Howe is clearly having an impact. 

And haven't spent that much really. Net pushes us up because there's no transfer fees coming in as the fringe players are worthless. Show me gross, show me gross for the past 5 years 😆 and see where we are

I can't abide Eddie Howe, snide twat that he is (stems from him making Bournemouth the most unpleasant, cheating petulant wankers I have ever seen) but even I have to concede that he's done a superb job up there.

I would say with Newcastle they've built a really solid defence and are happy to be hard to beat, but the top end seems to be relying on players performing completely above anything they've shown at any other point in their careers. If someone like Almirón returns to mean – i.e. not scoring a goal a game – then it all goes kaput. I will happily find any reason to find fault with Howe though as that Bournemouth team he built were awful. Also, their tiny ground made it seem like they were plucky underdogs but he was again bankrolled by some pretty unsavoury people. So much so they were fined for financially doping to gain promotion.

That's not fair really. Almiron can't possibly continue that form but it's not about him playing out of his skin it's about how him and the team are  being coached. It's the interplay between him, Bruno and Trippier. He still fluffs everything on his right foot. Past few games teams have been watching out for it though. One of the good things to come out of yesterday's win was the change in system when Isak came on

No, are right. I'm just completely myopic when it comes to Howe. I only used Almirón as an example, but there's just a few players who are in really good form and I'm suspicious it's a Pukki purple patch rather than a coach unlocking unfulfilled potential in their late 20s. I'm glad we played them before Isak came back though, he looks a nightmare.

Generally agree, on the face of it the Ref didnt appear to have a bad game but he set a poor standard early on and then lost control really - he was never going to send Romero off as he had failed to card so much early on.

Howe has done this his entire career, find the player in form and ride him for all he's worth.  Almiron and Joelinton at Newcastle, Ryan Christie, David Brooks at Bournemouth, hell even Charlie Austin at Burnley.  Somehow there is always one player who for a few months becomes the reincarnation of Pele and is absolutely unstoppable.

Villa sign Colombian prospect Jhon Duran. £18m apparently, from Chicago Fire.

 

His name is a spellcheckers nightmare. He also looks like he'd be a nightmare to defend against. He's big, strong, quick and looks decent on the ball.

So... Everton fans are still toxic and the reactions after the game are disgusting and not acceptable. They have turned on nearby every aspect of thier club as it is.

 

However... 

 

Turns out there were no reports of threats prior to the game according to Merseyside Police and the Everton board seemingly made it up. 

 

Got a feeling this story will have lots more come out over the coming days and weeks.

Eh, who cares. Roger Taylor of the band is undoubtedly a Villan, he famously said as a kid his ambition was to be Villa's goalkeeper and regularly was at matches.

It's hardly surprising Wolves haven't scored many goals. They're dreadful as soon as they get within 40 yards of the opponent's goal. This game has been awful. Pity the lights didn't stay off. 

Apart from the goal which was atrocious goalkeeping, Liverpool haven't been much better.

Why didn't they bring Costa on earlier? 

I've watched West Ham this season, I think Wolves are worse. 

Watching the goal now being replayed, it looks like the Wolves goalie is an outfield player having a go in goal after the real keeper went off injured.
