Our chairman is a fan. He's pumped in around £15m. He's in finance and based in the USA (so that in itself isn't the nicest sector). He's from Plymouth originally. 

He's openly said his target is sustainability as he can't compete, with his money+club revenue, in the Championship. He'll need to become a minority share holder and he's already started onboarding US investment.

I love my club. They're a community club but I'm under no illusion that to succeed, you basically have to be servicing huge debts. 

Football is gone now. It's gone too far when teenagers are being signed on with £1m a year contracts and then loaned out to League 1 clubs. Most won't ever play for their parent clubs. Wages have gone utterly mad. Football teams run under huge losses.

We can't be sustainable in the Championship, let alone the Premier League.

Sorry for the Twitter embed and yes I'm pleased with our performance last night but having seen this today, I will have to revise my opinion that Southampton are the worst PL team I've seen us play this season.

 

How Everton turned a free kick in a relatively dangerous position into another goal against is beyond me. We didn't even press that hard. Not to take anything away from Gross for scoring but the litany of easily avoidable mistakes leading up to it is unbelievable.

More talk about Lampard today on the radio and podcasts.

 

What amazes me is that it seemed that Everton fans didn't want Ancelloti and yet welcomed Lampard with open arms.

 

Surely it's time for them to go down, can anyone remember when they did anything but just stink around mid-lower table and not offer anything fun.

Under David Moyes. That side was physical and played at a high tempo. They were great to watch for a neutral.

Another worthwhile train-strike drive from Kent to South London tonigh, merely a week or so after the Boxing Day Fulham debacle.

 

How we gave a barely mediocre Spurs team 4 second half goals (whilst missing the opportunity to be 2 or 3 nil up at half time) I'll never know.

 

Piss poor.

Is the football bubble going to pop within the next 10 years? FSG and the Glazers are looking to get out of their investments at a time when TV money has probably peaked and financial fair play has been dragged round the back of City's training ground and shot.

 

Are there other avenues for revenue growth I am unaware of?

Both FSG and the Glazers are still going to be walking away with significant profits though and both before having to spend a lot of money (FSG to rebuild the team, the Glazers to rebuild Old Trafford). In that light, it makes sense for them to get out I suppose.

For clubs there's still loads of headroom in TV dosh if they can decentralise the rights and sell their own season tickets on some sort of streaming platform. That would make the current deals look like small change. Big hurdles to overcome but that's the way the wind is blowing I reckon.

I’m a lifelong Chelsea fan, as was my dad before me and his dad.

 

I met GV once, but far away from a football environment, it was so surreal as we were in New York on a break, when we bumped into him (quite literally!) as we were leaving a restaurant, and he was entering

 

I was a bit star struck, but he was courteous, polite and genuinely engaging. A true gentleman, he chatted to me and the Mrs and even knelt down to talk to my son, who was 6 at the time.

 

58…. Jesus! Such a short life and loss to the game 😞

Absolutely. Allowing clubs to independently manage their TV rights is basically handing money and airtime to the most widely supported and already very wealthy clubs, and taking it from those that benefit most from a collective deal.

 

It'll be another step towards a walled garden where only the biggest brands can compete, and everyone else feeds off the scraps. It'll be swiftly followed by a European Super League as the gulf in the domestic game widens.

And then of course if you are a new fan of the sport you kinda have to follow one of those clubs to get any joy from the game.  An ever increasing number of people supporting an ever decreasing number of clubs, its survival of the fattest.

Vialli came during that phase when we were getting real international star joining the PL and seeing an explosion of talent. I always recall his line on the Sky promos ("It's about coming to England") said with his Italian twang.

 

Even as a non-Chelsea fan he just always seemed like one of the good ones and it's a shame his managerial exit from Chelsea was under a cloud.
