Such an odd season, no one rated Howe and Arteta and both are getting their teams being just...consistent every single week. I didn't think Jesus being out would be a big difference for Arsenal and assumed after last season Newcastle would be in the top 4 for most of the season, but both are looking like they can genuinely challenge for the title surely. If it wasn't for the Man City machine, the league would be about them fighting it out between eachother, it's very late 90s, early 00s. Other teams just don't seem to even try to match the energy or Newcastle and Arsenal, it just seems opposition is passive and lets the defeats happen. I guess it's still early.

Smith sacked by Norwich.

Smith was never the right manager for Norwich, shame its taken so long this season to happen but having been to many home games he had lost the crowd months ago but more importantly the team looked wrong on the pitch and generally the form backed that up - odd purple patch for a few games withstanding its been a poor season thus far even if the table could suggest otherwise.

Funny old game init.

It was a little unlucky, because if that had stood it could have changed the game, but it was definitely the correct decision.

I don't understand why they took so long over the check. The VAR official is given a strict sequence they have to follow - they have to check things in chronological order - but I don't really understand why.  As soon as the first replay, when you could see immediately that it had hit Boly (and it wouldn't have even gone in without this deflection, not that that's relevant) it was obvious that it was offside. By first spending ages trying to see whether the ball had brushed his arm, they delayed the game unnecessarily, and gave fans the impression that they were looking for any way to disallow the goal. I can see the point in making sure they check everything, but surely some common sense could be applied for the benefit of the game.

Got to say I'm very impressed with the way Amazon are doing their football coverage now.

Not the games themselves as the coverage is pretty standard, but the after game coverage with interviews at their table pitch side and all the different camera angles is quite impressive. Getting the main players (not literally, managers too) to pick up the mics and come and answer proper questions from former  professionals has been mightily impressive over the Christmas fixtures. Don't know if this is a thing Amazon have done deliberately but I like it. Hopefully, Sky and the BBC will take notice.

If they keep this up, someone will be doing a full on live mic drop soon.

Sky do it don't they? Admittedly not every game and never on a Sunday for some reason but evening fixtures they often seem to.
