The Jeff Gerstmann Thread

The podcast today has a few tantalising hints to Jeff having... issues with previous engagements. He hints at having named his new gig something that might have been poking the bear and changing his mind due to lawyers and also just not wanting to be associated with the thing the name was spoofing. Could be that he picked a name of something that has historical baggage but it does seem to lean more towards him not wanting any association with his prior work, which he seems to have some distaste for for unspecified reasons.

Giant Bomb Disposal Unit?

The last few podcasts have been great.  Dave Snider on last week talking about the Whiskey Media days was a joy and Danny O’Dwyer on today old manning with Jeff about how the industry has gone and how they’ve had to adapt is even better.

Yup. I'm really liking it when he's got other people to bounce off. Just feel a lot more upbeat.

If he was fired before he could leave, assume there's all sorts of non-compete clauses and NDAs in place for a while, so he might have been limited in terms of guests/format. Danny O' is no longer involved with Giant Bomb, is he? Imagine he could be semi-regular, and there's some good crossover opportunities with the kind of things NoClip are doing. Jeff might be wary of doing too many collaborations, but he obviously has shared interests with some good folk that he can bounce off so it becomes mutually beneficial.

Gerstmann must have one of the best contact books in the industry, so should be able to get some really interesting people on as the show goes.

Former Beastcast members like Abby  as well as the Nextlander crew have no problem working with the new Giantbomb. Danny, Ben and Dan Snider are the only old crew to appear with Jeff.  If he was burned so badly you’d think the old GB members would want nothing to do with the new setup.

Watching one of his recent retro streams in YouTube, him playing Pitfall 2 on the Spectrum and describing it's music as 'a criminal act' has made my day.

I've been enjoying his Spectrum streams. It's a platform he admits to having little exposure too. I just wish he'd start loading more shit in 48k mode. He'd have far less crashes that way.

I know it's not Jeff's channel in particular, but I see he plays a lot of emulated games on the Mister and the like. Now with Jeff, I'm sure he owns a lot of the originals but surely not everything he's sampled. Aren't guys like him at risk of a copyright strike from Twitch or YouTube?
