My biggest problem with Youtube/Twitch ads was with mobile devices like my iPad. Not many easy ways around that sadly.

I tend to run Twitch on my iPhone just audio only, screen locked and in my pocket whilst walking, never seem to get any ad's that way.

I would sub to JG, but my mate streams his FF XIV dj gigs on Twitch, so he gets my Prime sub :)

While YouTube in iPad Safari is a slow and laggy nightmare, Twitch in Safari is as good, if not better, than the app, I think. Adguard is a free iOS adblocker and takes care of all ads on Twitch.

Jeff’s developed some sort of tic where he has to say, “and all those sorts of things”/“and all that sort of stuff” with alarming regularity. Perhaps he’s done it for a while, I wasn’t able to listen to the Bombcast after Brad et al left - the people he got in I found unbearably annoying with the possible exception of Tamoor.

Is brave not a thing on iOS? It works perfect on Android for stuff like that.

It's weird to me that Apple restricts your ability to avoid ads more than Google does considering the latter is an advertising company.

Unless they've changed it Safari is the only allowed web renderer on iOS. So there can be a Firefox or Brave app but the actual browser part, we web view, is just Safari. So all it really does is changes the UI around it.

iOS has had supported adblocking since 2015. Google continue to block them from being on the Play store except for browsers with them built in.

Brave works on iOS, too, but you don’t need it to block ads.

In that case shouldn't be a problem!

I thoroughly enjoy the use of The Rocks "enjoy your gaming" during streams.

I thought that was a legit part of the Microsoft conference for the longest time  there was a few times the audio played right when "World Premiere" or "Xbox Exclusive" appeared on screen at the conference and I remember thinking having the Rock audio was a bold choice from Microsoft

Listened to episode one of The Jeff Gerstmann Show after work while decorating. Was like having an old friend nattering away keeping me company. Lovely stuff.

Did stop what I was doing around 2h40m, when Jeff got a bit emotional, revealing how the last few weeks (years) hit home. Then he riffed about Rez for 10 minutes and all was right again.

Yeah that was really heartfelt. Sounds like he was miserable and stressed out despite doing what he loves most (as evidenced by his current output, he's completely reinvigorated). Seems like the corporate structure really spoiled things - which not only makes the shitty corporate article announcing his departure even shittier, it also clarifies how that happened that way. Jan then mumbling something about "privacy concerns" as an excuse, just proves even more that current Giant Bomb is the exact opposite of the original idea behind Giant Bomb. Jeff saying he wouldn't want to br part of a large team anymore, no matter the benefits it brings, is telling.

Jeff emphasizes that he's now allowed to improvise, be spontaneous, and get creative.  And I'm along for the ride! Current Red Venture GB can eat a dick.

Amen to that! He sounds full of energy, really hope even a quarter of what he has planned comes to fruition, we’ll be in for a treat if so.

Corporate structures really can discombobulate people. The feeling of just being a replaceable cog is so detrimental to mental health. Thankfully Gerstmann isn’t just any old cog, and it’s heartwarming seeing/hearing the lift in him. When he said he’s started dreaming again because the stress has gone… man, that hit.

Haven’t listened to every minute of every episode but it’s still comforting having Jeff doing his thing.

As with others often felt he sounded jaded in the last few years of Giant Bomb, but it’s evident it wasn’t games that jaded him rather the corporate culture he was stuck in, further amplified by the pandemic.

Hearing him now riffing on whatever he damn well pleases is a treat.

Like I said in the GB (RIP) thread, hearing Jeff now is like hearing the same Jeff we remember from when he was talking with Ryan back in the day. Getting away from that corporate cesspool was the best thing that could've happened to him. In hindsight I'm surprised he didn't do it sooner, but I guess even with his fanbase and popularity it's still a gamble. A gamble that he wasn't willing to take with kids on the way until the situation became untenable as GB was transforming into the kind of horrible and cynical website they used to make fun of. Apparently they're now doing a regular Fortnite stream. Meanwhile I'm listening to Jeff talking about gross energy drinks in deep analytical detail while pondering how he misjudged Dragon's Dogma with its wonderful unique craziness.

Do Americans have the same fascination with energy drinks that they do with fast food?

While I’ve always enjoyed Gerstmann’s dry wit, I can’t imagine listening to anyone doing a solo podcast for three hours. Best of luck to him, though.

I think so yeah. Lots of streamers are affiliated with Sneak, GFuel and Rogue. It's all powdered shit.
