I think I might just try that HORI Fighting Stick Mini, as it seems simple and cheap enough to try one. (Assuming it's PC compatible despite the Switch packaging)

Unless it's just for ten minutes of knockabout fun at the weekends, I'd avoid getting a Mini, tbh. Go straight for a Hori RAP 4 or 5, or (since you're after something PC-compatible) any mid-range Xbox 360 stick. If you're patient on eBay you'll find something for £20-£30 more than a Mini that's so much better than it. The cheapest off-the-peg options never use arcade-quality parts, so the stick and buttons will wear out a lot sooner than you'd like (assuming they don't feel bad to begin with), and the case will be relatively flimsy and have very little palm space, etc.

If you're not too bothered about 'authentic' arcade parts but still want something reliable in the long term, the more recent version of the 8bitdo stick can be had for a good price, and the multi-system Mayflash F300 and F500 have had a firmware update which gets rid of the input latency they used to suffer from, so they've gone from being decent budget sticks to among the best you can get.

Edit: the older HRAPs did come with Sanwa sticks, Koala - just not the buttons! I picked up the second version of the original HRAP recently (grey with orange buttons) and it has quickly become my favourite stick. If I was rich I'd hunt for the SA and SE versions, too.

Edit: be careful with PS3 sticks, too - in my experience few of them are PC-compatible, even the really sought-after ones like the VSHG. Check around online before buying!

Yeah, I have one of those and since the firmware update it has really served me well! As Siri says, having to plug a controller in for certain consoles can be a pain, but as a cheapish multi-console solution they're great (getting a stick and Brook Universal Fighting Board would cost at least double what you're likely to pay for a Mayflash). They're very easy to modify, too.

There are also cheap Magicboots dongles for various consoles if you really hate hooking up a pad.

I have one of those, do they work on PS5?

Only on PS4 games with legacy support like SFV. You could make it work natively on other PS4 games by using a PS3 - PS4 Brook Adapter. It'll never work on any native PS5 game though cus Sony are arseholes.

excellent stick for the money, choice of using usb, 2.4ghz or Bluetooth, remappable buttons… I love mine. However I love it more after sticking Sanwa parts in it. Don’t get me wrong, the standard bits are fine, but I’ve been using a MAME arcade machine for a few years with Sanwa parts.

I use it with PC, Switch, Xbox OG, Dreamcast and Saturn (latter three with a Wingman SD).

I still have my 360 TE stick and it is still supremely satisfying to slap those big ol' loud buttons, though I rarely use it these days.

I have an adaptor and am hoping at very least that the PS4 version of SF6 will work with it, we'll see.

I wouldn't do that.

I bought two of those, as I promised myself I wasn't getting yet another stick for the PS4 after having bought one for the PS2 and PS3, and they really were disappointing. So much so that I ended up buying a RAP yet again.

I use one of these Dreamcast sticks (Agetec stick), but I swapped out all the buttons and stick for Sanwa components and re-did the wiring to connect to a Cthulhu USB PCB. It's bloody lovely but looks like ass due to my shoddy modding. I need to respray it and will probably re-do the internal wiring and swap to a more modern PCB at some point.

I've been using my SFIV TE original stick for years, the Brook XE/B adapters are a godsend.
I cannot play arcade stuff on a pad, its just horrible, stick alllllllllll the way

Been considering buying a Brook XB for a few things. Any noticeable lag?

Yarp. Most of the £70 Mayflash sticks are primarily for PS4/XBO compatibility - which require a separate dongle or plugging an official pad into the stick, which is a bit shit and at that point you might as well buy a brook universal PCB.

I have the Mayflash F300 Elite and yes, for PS3/PS4 you have to connect a pad to it, but I believe you can connect it straight to a Switch. Using it on a PC I've had no issues and it feels good. However, I'm pretty sure there are sticks with better connectivity out there by now, this one feels like it's an older design for sure. Nice stick though, claims to be Sanwa parts.

Well, having played a bit with my first arcade stick, I love it!

It's very different than using a pad but when I put Streets of Rage 4 on I was in heaven. Big, chunky buttons you can bash feel perfect for the game. Looking forward to trying the Turtles game on it.

Welcome to the club!

Also, I clearly have a problem.
