I can’t begin to imagine how much of a horror show a Skyrim remake on the consoles would turn into. Even $1T in funding and ten years of development couldn’t possibly stand up to what the modding community have done (so far) with the Special Edition.

 

In other words, consider a PC if you want to see that game at its very best.

Does it make sense to say anything about Elder Scrolls when, hopefully, Microsoft will be showing off a decent amount of Avowed tomorrow? We've only seen a few seconds of Avowed when they announced it two years ago and then almost everyone jumped to the conclusion that it was going to be Obsidians take on an Elder Scrolls game. Maybe it'll wind up being a very different style of game but I still think it'd end up a bit like what happened to Sony with Days Gone and TLOU 2. Very different games but TLOU 2 was always looked at as Sony's top tier post-apocalypse which didn't help the perception of Days Gone pre-release. As it turned there was enough of a gap between each games release that Sony could have gotten away with not saying a thing about TLOU 2 until after Days Gone came out.

I don’t know what to think about Avowed yet, despite seeing nothing much so far. There’s a 95% chance of it ending up being Elder Scrolls Lite Stopgap Edition, when what I’m really hoping for is a 150 hour epic (that can be replayed).

I'm hoping it will be Obsidian doing an Obsidian take on Skyrim and the like. I absolutely love their focus on depth in terms of systems and quest design - and of course excellent writing. Areas in which Skyrim imho is lacking because it's been streamlined for accessibility for a wider audience. I mean it's of course great for what it is, but as someone who adores oldschool CRPGs, I can't help but be excited by the idea of a proper CRPG type game in the style of Skyrim. What New Vegas was to Fallout 3 if you will.

 

Apart from making me extremely happy, this also ensures that Avowed does its own thing rather than Microsoft ending up with Elder Scrolls lite alongside proper Elder Scrolls. The existence of proper Elder Scrolls should allow Obsidian to go all out with what they do best.

 

TL;DR I CAN'T WAIT FOR AVOWED :omg: and I'm more hyped for that than Starfield :D

you’re going to be disappointed then. If Starfield isn’t till next year, elder scrolls is going to be something silly like 2028.

Current big rumour is that Prey 2 will be announced tomorrow and that it's pretty far along.

 

I really hope that's true. I loved the first Prey (despite it not being old :) )

 

edit: the recent first Prey. Not the first first Prey. That one is old, but nowhere near as good as new first Prey.

Another possibility is that it's actually Prey 2 - the one we already know and that was cancelled. Not just a new sequel to the old Prey, but the old sequel to the old Prey.

I really can't see them making a Prey 2. The first one was an absolutely spectacular commercial failure. I know there's an argument that Gamepass means there is more room for niche games that don't need to sell millions and millions to be worth investing in but ultimately if a game has the budget of a Prey they still want to produce games that might move the subscriber needle a little. Prey 2 would do next to nothing in terms of consumer interest, subscriber numbers or pretty much any metric you might care to think of

Prey 2 would be an unexpected bonus though. And continue the flood of new sci-fi horrors games… IN SPAAAAACE that are on their way.

Oh, God. Please. Please let it be this. There was a little preview of that in Edge (I think) that made it sound incredible. Games come and go, and get cancelled all the time, but this is about the only one that truly disappointed me.
