Not that impressed with the visuals in that new footage, nothing a PS4 couldn't do.

... It is on PS4... So it's not surprising if looks like something a PS4 could do...

The rain is ok when it's drizzling but when it's pouring down it looks proper shit. Like three generations behind the rest of the graphics or something, there were games on the 360 with better rain than that. Can't believe anyone on the dev team thinks it looks good to be honest.

Yeah it was the rain that caught my eye as being bad, the way it bounces off everything including Leon's hair, looked terrible. The gamma seemed off in the new footage, too bright in some areas and way too dark everywhere else. It just looks cheap overall. There's a shiny/reflective look to the surfaces that looks like plastic.

I'm sure the game will be good but I'm not sure about going in at full price now. A remake of a game we're so familiar with needs to be spectacular on every level to make it worth buying for the 10th time.

I think it looks alright at worst, and that is when the rain particles are at their thickest. Changing the colour/opacity willbe a big task at all so hope they can somehow at least tweak it, but by the looks of things it is actual full scene rain rather than a screen based effect and lowering the opacity may lead to some performance issues.

I think it is not really a huge deal, and as for the roughness on surfaces being too shiny, I think it's mainly during the rain sections which makes sense, even if it is a little intense.

I think the rest of the game looks stunning, and I love how dark it looks like it is going to be at times. Hopefully we get a demo to see how it all feels!

I find with dark games, a lot of the issue is with video compression and when it's running natively on the TV most of the issues seen in youtube videos are non existent. I recently replayed the Evil Within 2 on an OLED , a game that uses pitch black to amazing effect throughout and whew that is one stunning game compared to how it looks in most online media.

That part at 8:35 looks wonderfully atmospheric, the wind and rain effects look crazy good there.

Anyone else think Leon looks a bit like

I mean I think that just looks incredibly fun to play. It feels like the developers very early in the project realised that the core of Resi 4 is perfect and doesn’t need to be messed with, so they’ve instead opted to go for something that seems more like a remix with all the graphical and QoL updates.

There’s simply no way that this is a remake of the entire game. I shall be completely shocked if it is the actual case.

How do you mean? I’d be pissed off if they only remade half of it.

I don't see why not. They know how beloved the game is. I'm sure they have been working on this for a very long time (unlike the rushed RE3).

I mean Capcom have been on a roll for quite some time now.

I don’t think it’s that unfathomable now we’ve seen more footage that shows it’s not a complete ground up remake and redesign like RE2 was.

I know the original is a big game but based on well recent titles have done then Capcom will know that this game could eventually sell over ten million copies. Obviously they all won't all be $60 sales but they'll be making money on it for years to come.

I think the argument against Resi 4 being completely remade to modern visual standards in its entirety was that it was so varied in terms of environments and one-off set-pieces that it would cost a small fortune to produce given it ran to about 15-20 hours long for a first playthrough.

I guess now we've seen games like The Last of Us 2 come out with a 30 hour+ run-time and insane variety and visuals, remaking the whole of Resi 4 to modern standards doesn't seem so ridiculous anymore. But that was a first party flagship game with a Sony budget whereas I don't think Capcom have near that much money to throw around.

Personally I would also be surprised if it gets remade in its entirety. I am expecting some cuts to both the castle and the island personally while I suspect the village will remain mostly intact. But I would be very happy to be proven wrong.

I think we’re just seeing a studio that’s at one with their in-house engine.

It’s probably why other devs can be so adamant about using their own for so long, because if you crack it you can just piss out games (comparatively speaking of course).

I mean there was more variety in REVIII a game which they would have forecast to sell worse than this will.

Plus with the reuse of assets from all of the previous titles it is easy to see them putting this together in a reasonable amount of time.

I reckon it will pretty much be complete with maybe some changes to the pace.

I’m baffled as to why some of you are questioning whether it’ll be the entire game. It’s quite a long campaign but it isn’t exactly Elden Ring is it? Am I missing something?

Neither Resi 2 nor Resi 3 were remade in their entirety. Resi 3 remake had a LOT of cuts whereas Resi 2 remake's B campaigns were barely any different from the A campaigns. And they are both much shorter and less varied games than 4 was.

Also, Elden Ring is an apples to oranges comparison. Resi 4 is a absolutely relentless march through one set-piece after another after another for about 20 hours, of which very few set-pieces are alike and many of which use entirely bespoke mechanics and assets.

Like most open-world games, Elden Ring has you spend a lot of time simply traversing the world and a ton of reused caves/dungeons/bosses etc. Sure, there's a ton of game in there but it's really not the same as a lengthy linear action game. There's a reason why most linear action adventure games never ran over like 15 hours even in their heyday and why most FPS campaigns were even shorter. Heavily scripted and set-piece driven campaigns are expensive.

Callisto Protocol, as a recent example, is said to have had a budget of 150 million dollars and was by all accounts about 8 hours long and had fuck all gameplay variety. They needed to sell 5 million copies just to break even.

@Majora I am really struggling to understand the doubt to be honest.

The cuts to 2 were so small, and felt very much like a direction choice rather than a budget issue. 3 was clearly made in a small amount of time. This on the other hand has been rumoured for years before it was even announced.

There are a tonne of games that had the scale and variety in terms of variety, that would have had smaller teams and smaller budgets. If you look at something like The Evil Within and it's sequel, they were rather large, and they were using brand new technology. This is being made within an engine Capcom has absolutely nailed, and have access to a pool of assets from four games (more if you include Devil May Cry).

As for the Callisto budget, I can only imagine that large costs were put into building the motion capture studio, and possibly heavily paid higher ups in the studio. No game as short as that usually comes with such a colossal budget.

We will see in a month how this all actually pans out, but I have pretty high hopes for this being the same scale as the original.
