Someone on here mentioned they sold the holographic sleeves for older games on eBay and got a tenner for them.

I stuck mine for this game on eBay and someone just paid £15.

I wasn't expecting that. People are mental.

Fuck’s sake this game! I’m now playing this like a glorified Pac-Man in the “silly sections”. Just running around munching up all the crates and collectibles, shooting medallions, whilst the ghosts/zombies chase me around the maze/area.

I drop down onto a platform which is the way out, only it has items on it. Even though the screen says “drop down” it doesn’t work, just tries to pick the items up instead. I’m trapped with no way out, until 2 zombies decide to join me on the platform and pummel the shit out of me whilst I’m trying to “drop down” with X but opening and closing the case like a fast forwarded VHS video. And dead. Back to the checkpoint. It then plays out exactly the same again on the next try. 🤨

I can see why Edge gave this an 8 now. Get past the slick AAA presentation, whizz bang graphics and audio and there’s a fair bit of jank lurking that you just don’t expect from a AAA big name game. I can’t remember encountering stuff like this in the original either.

I've just completed chapter 2 and am going to savour this and only complete one or two chapters each session, I think. I haven't died yet (playing on Standard), but that doesn't mean encounters aren't intense. I've met the

Spoiler

merchant

, got the

Spoiler

rifle

and things are opening up a bit more now.

Sorry if this has been mentioned but WTF is going on with the screen when you die? It sort of flickers so abruptly that it seems like a visual bug?

Yeah, I noticed that. I’m still not sure if it’s a glitch or done by design. Fed up of seeing now too! 😂

God knows where they got Ada's new voice actor from though, she couldn't sound more bored if she tried.

Haven’t gotten to Ada myself yet but wasn’t that originally her character? - Very aloof and underwhelmed by it all?

I wouldn't say the performance is aloof so much as just flat and monotone.

I agree with the Edge 8 as well.  It's a game of two halves. The stuff if does well it does extremely well, but there are a few off decisions. Bear traps are annoying. Stealth sections are just tacked on for the sake of it. Some of the new areas are boring and you want to get back to the good stuff.  Re4 was brilliantly relentless, with great set pieces one after the other.  The extra areas in the remake slow it all down somehow.

I get why they did it though - the game has already had a remake on PS4 which was 60fps and had improved textures.  This release needed to be bigger and better.  And it is bigger.  But it's not better... I'll have to wait until I complete it to be sure but I might end up prefering the 2005 one, maybe through familiarity, I'm not sure.

The remake is like watching It'll be alright on the night.  Theyve added more, but it's all Denis Norden and no extra funny outtakes.

Punisher is mad good in this. Kills groups of zombos in corridors, kills shields, kills the spiders behind guys that they are trying to jump on, can kill trash enemies behind plagas heads. It's this game's Red 9 I think, cause of how neatly you can line the shots up with the modern control scheme.

Just had another crazy spawn happen. Climbed up a ladder got to the top and then 3 zombies all pop in just like really bad draw in out of thin air, about a metre right in front of Leon. It’s like playing Project Zero at times! I’ve decided to just pretend they’re zombie ghosts for added effect. 😂

There’s something else bugging me. How are you supposed to know where certain items are? There are some important hexagonal plates that appear to be story items. I found one by accident when running around like a twat. It was at the side of a medallion. I get the impression the designers thought “they’ll obviously find that as it’s at the side of a medallion they’ll collect” What if you don’t bother doing the side quest medallion stuff? 😂

That makes far more sense! It puts them into the story items in the inventory for some reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not sure if this is a glitch or not but Leon randomly is able to jump straight off ledges sometimes when running. I’ve then tried to do the same when I’ve died on a section, and he hits a brick wall, stops dead and I have to press X to drop down when the command is onscreen. Bit of a pisser when you’ve got 10 zombies right behind you!

My first impression of the full game is that I hate the merchant's new voice. He sounds like a 20 year old from London.

He sounds like an Arsenal firm away day mad lad! 😂 I can imagine him in the “BOOOOOZAAARRR” on match day getting Leary as all fuck. Then after the game and a rumble, it’s off back home to slap his Mrs about. It’s the Stella talking!

Nearing the end of the game and big spoilers:

Spoiler

The introduction to the Regenerators is so frightening I have had to switch it off for the night. Truly sensational stuff. The pacing of horror in this section from the jump scare toasted man to the flickering lights is just masterclass. Absolutely phenomenal.

A couples of hours in, still in the midst of Chapter 3 and enemies do spawn in, but they do off screen for me and you can hear them clearly when they are coming. So far its not been insanely relentless. The game tends to spew enough ammo and resources are you that some smart management of it has kept the difficulty pretty decent.

Red 9 for life! Fully upgraded, including its exclusive 😎

Just finished Chapter 11. It’s definitely got the feel that they managed to capture lightening in a bottle again. It feels just as great to play as the first time.

Nice to see a bit more changes in the castle - it’s still the same gane, with the same DNA, but they’ve taken more liberties in the reimagining than the village section. Don’t like the change of Salazar to undead Margaret thatcher though.

Only thing I’m not liking is the merchants stupid new voice and the small keys.

Just finished Chapter 3. Really enjoyed 100% the Shooting Gallery. Is there more of it later with different weapons, extra courses? Hoping so! The most fun and challenging part of the game so far.

Del Lago (think that’s what it’s called) was a huge disappointment. More like an interactive cutscene than a boss. Chapter just fizzled out.

I’m hoping it starts to pick up from here as putting the spawning stuff to one side, and the jank, it just currently feels very flat in terms of action and uneven in terms of quality. Like it’s a bit old hat compared to the big action games that have gone bigger and better over the years since the original and it can’t compete.

Edit - Literally within about 2mins of the start of Chapter 4. it’s back to being awesome. Classic Resi! The atmosphere is amazing. Graphics are eye popping. Audio is swish as fuck. Fingers crossed for more of this from here on in!

Or not. I’m now piloting a motorboat with worse controls than the misguided PSone Tomb Raider vehicles! How is this even possible?!?!? Having ricocheted off the walls, not been able to see where I’m going, yet amazingly somehow pull off a 25 point turn to face in the right direction.......I finally head out onto the lake in a hail of..........rain??? Is that rain??? I think it might be. I’m not sure. No? Yes? Yeah, i think it is! 🤨 Its the fucking rain effects off the PSone Tomb Raider games too! 😂 Is this the point in development when the budget ran out or what? 🤣

That's the but I was talking about. Going to the 2 locations to pick up the stone heads is so boring, nothing really happens and it just feels like padding.

Some way over the top nit picking (even for rllmuk) in here. The combat is great, the atmosphere superb, and it looks phenomenal (rain aside). I'm up to chapter 9 or so. There's been a couple of times where the enemy spawns were behind me, but most my partner pointed out were just them travelling a long way around to get to me.

The puzzles are classic resi, the boat controls fine and you use it for barely a few minutes.

The Stone pedestal puzzle at the dock in chapter 3....

The first puzzle in the franchise that I have gave up on. I made a right arse of it early and I can't get my head around getting it 100%.

It's optional but I sat for 30 mins trying to solve it but had to give up before I had a some kind of crying episode.

@Ry I saw that and my heart sank, as I knew I’d be there for half an hour trying to do it. Imagine my surprise when I lucked it in two moved! :hat:

The only complaint I have is that the rifle doesn’t have quite the same punch to it. Popping heads in the original with the sniper rifle is deeply pleasurable, could do with a bit more wollop in this version.

THIS. It’s like the character is a cosplayer. I actually find myself wanting to reduce my shopping time as he just keeps yapping on and on. Also the music used to be amazing for these areas, now it’s nothing.

So odd.
