urgh I’m not sure whether to restart on normal as I’m only on chapter 2 so won’t be too much to get back to where I am. It’s been good so far but I’m anxious if the game ramps up in difficulty.

Any other hardcore crew out there?

Bloody loving this.

Am playing more bravely than I did the original version, reloading sections to try and perfect the parries and ammo usage etc.  Even repeating sections there’s plenty of variety in the way encounters can play out, which feels great.

Yes but @CrichStand has said he'd carefully navigated them only to run back into them after getting into a fight!

Oh I missed that bit, sorry! I thought he was saying he just missed them 😬

My reading comprehension is getting worse and worse

Some of this is really, REALLY shonky. II think it may even be currently broken. Someone else must be experiencing this......

Died and was put back to the start of the section I was.struggling with.. I cleared it all out fully, walked around checked everything. I then turn around start walking forwards and about 10 enemies magically appear out of thin air spread across the area I’ve just fully cleared and checked. 🤨 They also start spawning in out of thin air in front of me, coming from the next area.

Basically, it appears there are random spawn points, where when you walk over them it makes enemies appear. It’s all fucked though and it’s doing it when it shouldn’t be doing it. Its a total mess and has made this section almost impossible to finish.

What format are you playing on? sorry if you’ve said recently

I’m on PS5. It’s the bit in the compound in the middle of Chapter 2. Basically I clear everything, then everything goes quiet, job done, then suddenly everything randomly respawns again. I’ve used all my ammo, all my health, have nothing left, seems like there’s no way out without this happening over and over. I’ve died and restarted it a few times now and it’s the same every time. The fact the enemies are spawning in out of thin air says something isn’t right!

How big is the file size on a Series X? 👀

Mines 67.2GB, that’s the deluxe version, but can’t imagine the extra tat adding up to much ☺️

Chapter 3:

Spoiler

The shooting gallery! So good! I really did miss out on a great game back in the day. Loving it ☺️❤️

Ok, so tried again and I don’t no whether it’s a bug or really dodgy programming or whatever.

I took the first wave out. Shoot the dude on the roof throwing dynamite who explodes. Music stops. Back to exploring. Great!

I walk forwards for a few seconds. I then hear a shout behind me. I turn around and the dynamite dude on the roof has respawned and I hear all the other people respawn and shout that I’ve already killed. It’s like if you walk over certain invisible lines it makes enemies spawn in or something. It’s happening consistently each time I retry but on different parts of the area when I walk around. I can’t get out of this section because of it.

Edit - Will try reloading from my last save and see if anything changes. Was absolutely loving it up until this.

So I’ve tried again before reloading. Kill about 20 enemies. The music stops. All clear. I jump out the room, walk forwards. I hear a shout behind me. The dynamite man is back! I kill him and another 4-5 enemies. Music stops. I run forwards. I hear more shouts behind me. More enemies have magically spawned in out of nowhere. I go back to the room and let them climb in as I shoot them. Music stops. All clear. I head outside to the next building checking around for enemies. I’m good to go! Climb up a ladder onto the roof. I hear a shout behind me. Loads of enemies have spawned in. This is the game isn’t it?!?!?

It’s like I’m on a rollercoaster ride and all this shit is kicking off. And the game is expecting me to sprint everywhere and as I’m doing that and distracted with other enemies, all this stuff is covered up. But because I’m not doing that, it all falls apart and you can see fully behind the curtain.......and it’s not pretty.

Bloody hell, that set-piece with Luis was a bit difficult even on normal. Died 4 times I think. Really enjoyable but if you get mobbed in a tight space in this you really are screwed as you have pretty much no invincibility frames from what I can tell, you just get stuck in a loop of getting smashed in.

Also the noises Leon and Ashley make when running around in the bad weather are unintentionally hilarious. Near constant grunting from the two of them.

Quick tip for anyone starting: I'm playing on normal and it's plenty hard enough! I've died many times.

I reckon I've completed the original across different formats about ten times. Although I don't think I've ever done it on hard, and certainly never done any speedruns or challenge runs or anything. I guess I'd call myself a casual RE4 player. So if you're like me, ignore the game when it tells you to play in hardcore if you've played the original. Maybe play on hardcore if you've completed the original dozens of times and are completely familiar with all its intricacies.

@CrichStand Yeah, in that area the enemies respawned multiple times after clearing them out. I don't know for sure, but I think they just keep respawning infinitely. I think the idea of that section is to run in, collect the shit, run out, rather than waste all your resources killing enemies that just keep coming.

@dug Problem is I can’t get out of the area because of the enemies respawning!

Cleared out the area again and the enemies finally stopped. I go to leave the area and BOOM, as soon as i get to the far corner.........Enemy spawn time! Enemies, literally appear in front of you out of thin air. You know they weren’t there the whole time and weren’t there just secs before, and couldn’t have come from anywhere but now they magically are just there, sometimes appearing out if the ether in front of your very eyes. You then turn around and the area that you’ve just cleared........it’s now magically full of respawned enemies too. 😂 I can’t remember anything like this in the GC version. It’s fucking rubbish and totally ruins the game. Surely it wasn’t like this on the original? And if it was, what the fuck is it doing in a AAA 2023 remake?

I’m hoping this is the only section where it’s noticeable. Otherwise the whole game is fucked for me. I might have to restart on normal to get past it.

You’ve got to remember the Edge scale has a specific meaning attached to each number:

7: Beloved classic

8: Genre-reframing masterpiece

9: An 8 that causes arguments

10: An 8 that causes friendship-destroying internicene warfare.

What about games that received a 10 but should be a 7 though?

Can you record it on a PS5, I want to see

Sounds rubbish. Can someone with an Xbox say if it's the same at that location too please?

Thank fuck! I’ve finally done it!!! That whole bit is supposed to be a rollercoaster ride. It’s wanting you to run around and push forwards at speed and play it how it wants you to play it. Like they want you on rails, yet have bizarrely given you freedom to wander around or try things your own way.

If you don’t play it exactly the way they intended you to play though then it disintegrates into complete and utter bullshit. You can see the ropes and pulleys being moved and everything that’s happening behind the scenes going on. You literally see enemies spawning in a few metres from you!

Problem is there are that many enemies on that section, a least on Hardcore, that you need to be Dave Skill in order to get through it at speed. I was getting rushed, hit from all sides, peppered with axes and dynamite. Also, there’s no indication that when the music ends and it goes back to “exploring” that you should actually be charging forwards as quickly as possible. My natural instinct was to collect items and look for ammo.

@Kryptonian I would do if I could. I’m pretty sure someone else will hit that bit and be all “wtf”!?!? 😂 Something’s bound to turn up on YouTube. I’m really hoping there’s no other bits like it. Or if there are, switching to normal sorts them out.

This is either a bug or Hardcore specific as the section should play out similar to the equivalent in the original. I'm midway through playthrough 6 and haven't encountered anything like this. There have been some mutterings about issues with events in boss fights triggering in Hardcore so it might need a patch before it works as it should. Normal still offers plenty of challenge for a first run tbh.

I don't know if i'm actually enjoying this or just going through the motions. Granted, i have been playing for 8 hours straight and probably need a break.

I'll carry on tomorrow and see if i feel any different.
