She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series coming to Disney + 17th August

I’d say it had a lot of of strong underlying themes and narrative strands. Perhaps, depending on your perspective, it didn’t have a single overarching plot (other than the one they successfully exploded in the last ep there), but I personally don’t think it needed one, and that wasn’t what it was about.

I get all that and like I say, I enjoyed it for what it was, but personally I think it not having a proper story really let it down. Without it, it just felt like a series of sketches with no real purpose. Yeah, the incel/misogyny thing and the turn around was well done, but again, it felt so lightweight. And yes, I understand that’s what they were going for, but I would have preferred a bit more meat on the bones.

 

It’s a shame really, as there was so much to like, but it didn’t really work on the whole for me. It all felt so inconsequential and I’m not sure how they’d be able to tie it into the wider MCU. If that’s even their plan.

This past week there has been a lot of discussion online that Matt often doesn’t take himself as seriously as depicted in the Netflix series and is much more promiscuous.

 

If the new show leans into that direction a relationship with Jen is a non-starter. On the other hand it all but guarantees she’ll show up for a booty call.

Because the other Marvel TV shows have been so consequential?

 

This was easily the best of the shows so far and the ending was handled brilliantly, so clever and funny.

I'd say She-Hulk/Jen should turn up in everything Marvel do because I think this is the best Marvel property full stop. But that would leave to her being overexposed pretty quickly, so maybe not.

The writers room and K.E.V.I.N. was just cringey...probably worse because I watch with subtitles and all the writers are saying K.E.V.I.N. as well so you could see it coming...

My wife and daughter have been watching this show and have been really enjoying it. They really hated that ending. Watching my wife's reaction- I could see a mixture of shock and disgust on her face.

 

I admire the producer's courage for that ending- but I think they will have alienated a greater percentage of the casual fans than that of the fanboys.

Watched every episode with my 9 year old, likes marvel stuff but not a massive fan or anything and he’s loved all of it. He was laughing like a drain throughout the whole of the last episode and ended on “man, that was siiiiiiiick!”, he thought it was brilliant. He really wants to watch the old Daredevil show now.  Erm, nope.

He was asking me what was wrong as I was nearly choking with excitement when the 70s intro started. I stopped and showed him the original on YouTube. Not seen him enjoy anything this much since the early Cobra Kai episodes.

I loved it too. All of it.

Each to their own, but we’ve seen that a million times already and I really liked the way they subverted expectations in She-Hulk.

 

I’m also not sure how having a big CGI fight at the end would have given the series any more of a through narrative, which is all I’ve said would have elevated it for me personally.

A big fight at the end wouldn’t have improved it but I expect everyone who loved the ending knows who Kevin Feige is. My wife didn’t have a clue and was just bewildered by it. 
 

I would have preferred some kind of “in world” resolution.

Way, way too meta for her. It was very incongruous, and there had been no foundations laid earlier in the series to prepare viewers for that level of meta. I'm not even sure the Deadpool movies could have got away with that level of meta without complaint. It surpassed what the comics did too in my opinion.

 

I'd already seen the episode when they were watching it. I came into them at the hallway fight scene (Iron Man 2 homage?) and she said to me "this is really weird!". My reply- "Just wait, this bit is the mainstream bit!"

“No foundations laid earlier in the series”?! There was constant fourth wall breaking, references to social media, Wong being a more popular character than her, the first episode even made reference to the fact that the writers had changed the episode order so the explanation of how she became She Hulk was right at the start.

I reached a point with Marvel where each thing felt like a set up for the next thing and this show was that at its most extreme. They’ve become really fancy adverts for more adverts and I’m surprised people still give a shit. Putting characters in from other shows feels like when Donald Duck turns up in Street Fighter (or something).

What Fierce Poodle said but also she's ripped and punched her way out of the comics before too, so it felt in keeping with that but done to reflect the MCU.
