Does anyone have a list of the issues?  The only main ones I can see are:

  1. Sonic 3 MJ music was swapped out, new version isn't amazing
  2. Sonic 3 and Knuckles can't be played separately unlike all the other earlier collections
  3. No physical release
  4. Confusing DLC options

Someone replied to that thread and suggested searching for #SonicOrigins on Twitter, as people were posting bugs.

This was one of the first I saw. It’s not a bug as such, just a silly oversight:

From https://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?threads/sonic-origins-known-issues.41063/

  • Collison issues (Sonic 3 & Knuckles)
  • Sound glitches/muffled audio (all versions?)
  • Mislabeled soundtracks in museum.
  • Widescreen boundaries bypassing screen locks (Sonic 3 & Knuckles)
  • Tails AI issues

Also read Stealth's Twitter thread posted above. There were major fixes they wanted to apply before release but couldn't because or submission rules.

Urgh. It just looks horrible. Fuck sake. Nearly 40 quid for four 20-year-old games and this is what you get. Absolute shite. Fuck Sega.

I’m going to download Sonic 3: AIR and the Sonic Mania sprite mod instead.

Pity.  I have Sonic Mega Collection and (separately) Sonic CD on the PlayStation 3.  I would have liked to have got this on the PlayStation 4 (especially for the widescreen redrawn sprites feature), but not in this flawed state and not as a download.

Janky as shit Freedom Planet rip off.

Rush predates Freedom Planet by eight years! ;) But my point was more that there are plenty of newer characters that you could build games around that aren't Sonic. Even someone like Knuckles has a legacy of, like, one 32X game.

When they said they'd got Jun Senoue to finish off the unused tracks from '94 I assumed he was going to make them better, not worse.

Hmmm... OK.  Well, this is a cockup:

I've had that happen in the mega drive original, Sonic 2 is a bit of a buggy mess even in it's original form.

Sonic Mania is wonderful. A game made with so much care and love. Full of surprises and ideas, beautiful sprite work, and incredible music. It’s easily the best Sonic game since 1994 (like, it’s not even close), and has a good shout at being the best Sonic game ever.

It’s a travesty that we’ll probably never see a sequel. Fuck Sega.

It’s hilarious reading this thread immediately after reading the cover feature in Retro Gamer in which everyone who worked on the game is saying how wonderful Sega have been and how these are the definitive versions.

I watched a trailer for this on YouTube and thought it looked great. I thought the guys on the forum are going to love this. Turns out you’ve all saved me a few quid so cheers for that.

Already been burned by Super Monkey Ball Deluxe.

Maybe another topic but these retro remakes seem like a licence to print money but why do they keep getting them so wrong?

Because only M2 should be allowed near them.

Sonic Team being lead developer for Sonic, is like the developers of Super Mario Aces being the lead developers of Mario.

Except that was Camelot, who have made a load of great games, so even that analogy doesn't work.

To be fair, Camelot are basically an ideal comparison; as in, like Sonic Team, they've historically made great games all the way up to the Gamecube... but not so much since then :(
