Oh, Kingdom Hearts. What happened to you?

 

Wasn't the KH3 reveal full of joy and Disney/Pixar partnerships (like Toy Story) instead of going all in on its naval-gazing nonsense?

 

I suppose the ending of KH3 hinted very heavily at the direction this was going to be taken in, but I didn't know it would be so quick (for this series at least).

I think the Disney stuff is still there, there's an AT-ST foot in the forest scene, for instance.

Just the fact that there exists more than one Kingdom Hearts game is the most solid confirmation that we live in the darkest timeline.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was a total mess.

 

I wish they'd just scrap all the anime bullshit and get back to a simple plot where you go on a rollercoaster tour through various Disney properties, perhaps with several mcguffins you need to collect to save the world.

 

Pare it all back to an extremely simple story.

Kingdom hearts was once so good. Now it's an utter train wreck with no idea of its direction. If only it had Rafaqat as lead project manager.

Disneyland now has huge Star Wars themed areas. Given this is supposed to be Disneyland: the video game I think it doesn't seem out of place.

I don't play the series but I know that people love the combat (apparently FFVIIR borrows a lot from KH due to sharing designers or something?) so I won't completely write it off.

Technically impressive, sure, but where is all the joyful and colourful Disney stuff that makes this series interesting and distinguishes it from other dour JRPGs that try to be serious and cool?

 

I'm glad I bowed out of this series after KH2, the direction it's gone in is really not for me.

I played through the mainline series (and read story summaries of the 567 spinoff games) last year, and although there are some great moments it was often a painful experience that put me off any continued interest in further games. It’s a series that has well and truly eaten itself and become a bizarre confused mess of quite epic proportions. The new hyper-realistic style they’re trailing with KH4 looks like the absolute last thing the series needs.

They’re good games. The first game still totally stands up today with a perfect difficulty level. It’s really really good. The second one and everything else…..what the fuck

2 was great . It’s after it all went Kojima on acid, 3 was a disappointment after such a long gestation
