Same Triangle Strategy is legit. A great SRPG.

I loved the demo of this and just know it's a killer game, buuuut I'm holding out for a PC version at least for now.  I'll give it a year I think.  My impression of the Switch version demo, was that the host hardware couldn't quite do justice to what the game was trying to throw at it.  A PC version surely has to be coming!

Will def be sharper but it runs fine on Switch.

I went back to Dark Souls 2 (partly inspired by @Doctor Shark to whom I will apologise in advance because I saw that you enjoyed it; but also because I have nice memories of it, and I'm forever thinking about putting it back on for another go)

And GOD it's hard going this time! I think I wrote a massive post about it years ago, but what a misfire after the first game. I'd always subscribed to the 'bad souls game, but good game' idea, but in retrospect.. it's close. So dull and grey and brown! I'm in a position where all my options for places to go are very dark and very brown. It's missing that atmosphere of the first game (not to mention the others) that elevated the locations to something mysterious and magical.

Last time I played it I also tried to unpick what was up with the combat - and while there's lots of stuff going on under the hood, it's mainly a problem of weight and animations, and even sound - it feels spongey and that's death for a souls game. In the first game if you take even a glancing blow you know about it - here you can feel like you've avoided an attack but see your health bar drain.

And the music - yikes! It leans into big budget horns and drums and chanting and discordant strings, but oof, it's just miss after miss. The majula theme is great - that's about it!

I want to plow through to get to the DLC areas again because I think I will still love them (it's also the only one that I enjoy playing as a magic user because of the hexes) so maybe I'll change my mind as things progress. Dreading windmill-land though. And the shaded ruins. And all the underground bits.

..maybe I should play 3 again.

I don't think I've ever agreed with a game-related post more

I know I'm supposed to be "wrong" and that many people rate it pretty well but it's the only game in the series that I've tried maybe 7 times and never come close to finishing . Everything about it is a trudge

I can see several echoes of DS2 in Elden Ring but they have all been done properly in ER

I completed the game yesterday, and the post-Elden Ring blues are definitely real. I played Kirby for a bit just now while listening to a podcast, but it just wasn't the same. I've tried watching a few episodes of some different series I started before the game took over my life, but they're not sticking. Films are boring. Music doesn't sound as sweet. Food is tasteless. The noise my son makes when he laughs no longer brings me joy. I've just been walking around the house like this all day:

I'm going on holiday in Thursday with just my Switch for company, and in some ways I'm glad I won't have access to my Xbox so I can't jump straight back into a NG+ run. Hopefully a week away will be enough to wean me off.

This came on earlier, which felt pretty apt:

Nowhere near done with ER yet. Finished one playthrough which included the "secret" ares but still haven't scratched the surface judging by the amount of content I've seen on the wiki.

I don't get a lot of time to play games these days but I made time over the last two months for ER ... I have a feeling my next run through will be taken at a much more sedate pace - an hour or so here and there when I can fit it in, rather than regular sessions of staying up until 2am on a school night like I've been doing. So hopefully it will last me a good while longer, maybe even until Christmas!

On a classic JRPG thing at the moment - I finished a first playthrough of FFV Advance at the end of April, and now I'm going back to FFIII (not VI) as it was a game I noped out of the first time when I found the random battle frequency offputting. I'm not that interested in May-June's upcoming releases so I'm just playing old stuff in the meantime. :)

I Played Life is Strange True Colours - it was nice as more emotionally involving.  It felt very slow sometimes, just speed everything up please, I've places to go and monsters to kill.  No wait, im gotta work through other peoples emotions first.  I did like it.

I played Return of the Obra Dinn after finishing Elden Ring. It was a real pallete cleanser, and a full-on obsession for a week or so while I absorbed myself in the mystery and intrigue. The music still  haunts me!

I went for The Forgotten City and then Guardians of the Galaxy both of which were very comforting after the unceasing danger of Elden Ring. Also very narrative driven games so I didn’t have to watch YouTube videos after I finished to work out what went on haha.

I’ve been playing some snack-sized bits of Lego Star Wars but it’s just a distraction at best compared to ER. Mostly I’ve been catching up some TV and going to bed a bit earlier every night.

Couple more weeks of chill time I reckon and then I start Cyberpunk.

Once I've finished the game (160 hours in, and I've still got the Haligtree and CFA to do - about 17 achievements left for full completion), I think I'll give Sekiro a proper go, try to finish off Hades (reached the end of the game but hadn't reached the epilogue yet) and play Psychonauts 2.

Go for the Plat!

If you don't you've not really finished Elden Ring :D

It’s too easy. I literally just grabbed a few things and ended up with 90% of them done. I wish it was tougher.

Monster Hunter - I feel it scratches a similar itch. Combat you just learn to be better at, massive creatures you need to learn to defeat and impenetrable systems that need you to look up online to know wtf to do.

I really enjoyed Citizen Sleeper, short, nicely written non-combat science fiction RPG that mechanically is reminiscent of Disco Elysium. On Gamepass.

Bounced off Loop Hero (addictive up to beating first boss then quickly gets too repetitive); Tunic (looks great but found combat and perspective a bit annoying); and Chinatown Detective Agency (not having "googling the puzzle answers on my phone" as an actual gameplay mechanic, sorry no).

Might finally try Nonary Games next.

I don’t like the restrictions of SL1. I’m eyeing up NG+6 though.

Out of interest are you continuing to level and if so what level are you at? I'm at the end of my second character's playthrough and wondering whether to NG+ and if so whether to continue levelling.

230ish I think? I’m in NG+2 and the final boss is nails.

Do what I did!
…in the middle of your play-through, get a puppy dog! 🐶

Here he is at 8 weeks old at the end of March

…then try playing the game with this little guy attempting to eat literally everything around you all of the time!
