When is this? It feels like a chore to get to where I am in chapter 4 but I could persevere a bit longer. Does more open up than the creating/removing fire, or does that remain the core gameplay?

I played up to Chapter 4 and it definitely didn't get any better! It just annoyed me more and more with how appallingly shonky it is. I'd say you've seen the core of the gameplay by that point.

Didn't find the graphics impressive either. Looks like everythings been smeared with vaseline, and can't quite put my finger on it but, its got a PS2 vibe to it. Its absolutely nowhere near Flight Sim on any level, which are still the best graphics on Xbox by a long way imo.

Also, for anyone bothered about the 30/40fps. Just use the motion stuff on your TV to fake 60fps if you can. Works a charm on mine with Flight Sim, BOTW etc with no noticeable lag or graphical issues. In fact they both look absolutely incredible when doing this. Seems fine with slower moving games if you're not constantly spinning the camera around at speed.

I get that you didnt enjoy it, fair enough, but what in the name of Bob Ross is this bullshit? Requiem has a PS2 vibe? It doesn't invalidate your judgment but it sure as Heck brings it into question.

Its not bullshit, its my genuine opinion. The game has a very low res texture style/look to it. Can't stand the filtering on it either, which at times is overdone and unintentionally makes things look like a bad trip! Combined with the 30fps, shallow "gameplay" and the fact you're essentially just walking down a corridor for most of the game, i didn't find it impressive at all.

Have you played Flight Sim? it looks generations better than this, so does the first party stuff on PS5. Man, AC Origins on Series S is waaaaay more impressive graphically than this imo. Was surprised just how good that actually looks. HDR on it is top notch!

Its hard to describe or pinpoint but, for me, the graphics/asthetics on this remind me of certain PS2 games. Think its maybe the look of the characters and the whole low res textures thing. Its not meant as "this is shit. Looks like a PS2 game", which you seem to have translated my comments into for some reason.

Just to check........are you saying this is graphically better than Flight Sim and Horizon FW or the first party PS5 stuff?

Somebody needs their eyes checked.

Anyway, Chapter IX:

Spoiler

Is exactly the kind of thing I love in this kind of game. Just a big, but "curated" area to explore, that looks gorgeous. A lovely and relaxing jog around with a bit of a chat and sightseeing with many photo ops. Perfick.

I'm loving it. It's gorgeous so it helps. Reminds me a bit of the last disc of Shenmue II

Oh and, bad textures? The case for that being a load of bollocks:

That's actually lower quality than the source image as well because of forum limits.

Looked absolutely nothing like that playing on Series S!

What format are you on? Taken using Photo Mode?

Do you think it has better graphics than Flight Sim or Horizon FW?

This is far more what it looked like whilst playing it and contains the kind of look I mean when mentioning PS2.

Think it only renders out at 900p on the S and 1440p on the X/PS5. So the textures are a bit "mushier" (for want of a better word) on the Series S. Frame rate is a more or less consistent 30fps though. Playing though on the S myself and it looks great whilst playing.

Didn't know that! 900p seems crazy. Flight Sim on Series S has an insane draw distance, huge world, jaw dropping lighting, razor sharp textures, looks photo realistic and the clarity of the image seems 4k as all fuck! Horizon FW is on another level still, HDR is breathtaking, insane fidelity, detail and textures plus looks CGI level for the most part, with a huge draw distance, fast action scenes and runs 60fps. AC Origins really impressed me too, when you factor in the scope and scale of the world running at 60fps and the freedom within the gameplay itself, which is nonexistent in this.

Not saying the graphics in this are shit, just that i didn't find them impressive and was underwhelmed by them. They have a look, thats sort of a continuation of certain PS2 games, not that they look like they're running on a PS2! Obviously i'm comparing like for like too, not comparing the graphics on a top end PC version with the Xbox or PS5. lol.

BOTW and Flight Sim both look incredible using the TV's motion features to fake 60fps. This looked better with them switched on than playing in 30fps, but caused slight artifacts when moving the camera around at speed, towards the edge of the screen. Only suitable for certain 30fps games, but when it pays off it really pays off, totally transforms BOTW and Flight Sim. Also played a chunk of it in 30fps, which was horrible. Just can't go back to it now! Either way i thought the graphics were underwhelming, especially compared to Horizon FW, Returnal, Flight Sim, AC Origins, all games which i've been playing recently.

Yeah, sat about 5ft from a 65inch 4k TV, which shows up any ropey graphics/textures etc due to that. Like i say Horizon on PS5 is literally jaw dropping, as is Flight Sim on Series S.

You should really be using a 4K console with that setup to do it justice; not one targeting 1080p. This looks absolutely amazing on a 65" OLED running on a Series X.

Photo mode doesn't add any additional processing if you turn it off, no. I took that shot direct from the in game graphics.

I'm playing on a PC at 1440p at high settings with DLSS. (Most likely a match for PS5/Series X, but better frame rate)

Also, using motion smoothing on your TV will make 900p look even worse, as you have less actual image data so the temporal resolution will be messed up as well. Let alone the catastrophic input lag this usually causes as well.

How do you think i'm playing Returnal and Horizon FW? I've got a PS5! The PS5 first party stuff is currently levels above anything else on console in terms of graphics and audio. Graphics on Horizon are absolutely outrageous!

The S upscales to 4k and looks fantastic though. Also, how come Flight Sim looks photo realistic, absolutely jaw dropping and hi-res as all fuck on the Series S, if that's the case? Played AC Origins on S too and that looks proper swish running at 60 fps with stunning HDR and really nice textures. Oh, and the Switch still looks decent too. Just been playing Mario Galaxy and it looks fantastic.

Looks waaaaay better than the Series S version in that shot. Deleted the game now or i would have checked it to see if i could replicate something similar. Seriously doubt i could!

Like i said, i played a big chunk of it at 30fps too. It looked lo-res (partly down to the filtering it uses which i turned off, as i don't like the look of it), but also because on turning it off revealed the textures were crap and combined with the 30fps just.........no. I wasn't impressed by it graphically, not sure why its such a big thing? Surprised if people are saying its more impressive than Flight Sim or tyhe PS5's big hitters. Each to their own though!

That pic you've taken is cool and looks great but its nowhere near the quality of graphics on Horizon FW, which has amazing fidelity, running at 60fps, in a huge open world, with a massive draw distance, loads of stuff on screen, better A.I and shit kicking off all over the place. Jumping from that to this felt like going back a gen, or gens if talking about the gameplay. Anyway, lets let people get back to discussing the game and stuff!

I have taken many many pictures in my travels in the game. I'll probably post a selection of them tomorrow. Personally, it's one of the best looking games I've played in a while, both technically and from an art direction perspective. Even if the gameplay itself has been more mildly diverting.

I'll have to check them out! Wish i'd not deleted it now just so i could have another check of it or post up some pics of the difference between the versions. Shame its not on PS Plus so i could compare the S version to PS5.

I actually downloaded AC Origins on PS5 and directly compared it to the Series S version the other day just to see how it held up. It looked better on the S to me, although the resolution looked very slightly higher on PS5.

The first game was a double-AA punching above its weight. This one shifts into triple-A territory, but I don't think it has anything like the budget of a Horizon or Last of Us 2, so yes, it's a notch lower in terms of fidelity than those. But then most games are.

And yet I was always hitting the screen capture button in both Innocence and Requiem, because of the composition, the use of colour and light. Some of the views are stunning. The main character models are also excellent up close.

Yeah, some people have criticised the length of the game, but I appreciate that it has the space (and confidence) to do something like this and give some proper downtime to the characters.

I can’t believe Crich Stand is honestly trying to compare a Series S with a PS5 or compare a relatively quickly made third party game with a flagship first party title or that he’s using motion smoothing or that he’s sat 5ft from a 65” TV or…

Come on man, use a bit of common sense.

Note for all of these, I was playing on a 4K screen, but at 1440p resolution in DLSS Quality mode. This means it was rendering the image at approx 900p, DLSS was upscaling it to 1440p, then I was viewing the image itself at 4k which made a 4k screenshot. Which I have now resized down to a compressed 1080p jpg for these uploads.

But despite all that it still looks amazing. At least PS3 level graphics.

@Benny Nice pics! Looks good but I definitely don’t find the graphics to be anything special. Just to back up what I was saying, this is AC Origins on Series S. Factor in it’s a huge open world, with freeform gameplay, running at 60fps and it’s a pic of the TV screen taken with a an old iPad that has a shit camera. Just took the first thing on loading the game up. Find that way more impressive considering what the game is doing.

Enjoying this.. .didn't think I would after the opening section (hide and seek etc). However the world is strangely captivating and pulls you in to explore and drive the story forward. Feels like a Medieval the last of us somehow... :D Crafting and creeping about. The rats add an interesting dynamic to things!

It looks lovely too.. the lighting in particular is top notch. Wouldn't say its AAA in the sense of a big lavish (expensive) Sony AAA story-game. However its pretty damn good and enjoying progressing the story. Didn't expect to be so impressed with it.

Nah, that picture i posted  is just really, really, reeeeeeaaaally shit quality! Proper lol when I just saw it on the TV screen, using the Xbox browser. 🤣 Looked really high fidelity and almost photo realistic on the TV with the game running. The next gen upgrade of AC Origins looks really nice, with awesome HDR, definitely prefer it to this. Worth giving it a go!

Think the freeform stealth gameplay, the scale, the scope, the open world, the 60fps of Origins, then playing Horizon FW which is visually astounding, just hasn’t helped this in terms of its graphics and its gameplay. Nuff said!
