Ms. Marvel - Disney+

Surprised it's so quiet in here but I guess everyone is watching the very entertaining spectacle of the Tory party collapse in on itself.

I really enjoyed that episode, lots more character building and the Khan family just get better and better.

Spoiler

Action wise, not a lot happened but have to agree that this episode contained some of the worst CGI I've seen in a long time.

Those skeletons were shocking.

Enjoyable episode. The family rejoining Kamala really helped. But…

Spoiler

The way Kamala went back in time just to use her powers to save her grandmother, and then travel home again, felt so nakedly contrived, it didn’t make sense.

I also didn’t really understand why Najima sacrificed herself - she seems to have transferred herself, or her powers, to Kamran? It was a total back-of-fag-packet calculation, it seemed to me, very silly.

The story beats were predictable enough, but

Spoiler

I think they did a better job of the costume than I'd expected, best they've achieved for a while I think. Makes sense that an asian family would have hooked up with all the best textiles workers in the neighbourhood. :D

Also liked how they arrived at the name, though in the following scene I did think that Bruno was going to say she was adopted. Instead we get a musical sting (wonder how much that cost them?)

No fucking clue what happened at the end. I thought Danvers would just turn up to sort out copyrighting or something.

That sums up the whole series for me, TBH. :(

Yeah, I largely stayed out of this thread as I didn’t want to yuck anyones yum and so many people seem to really rate it. Now that it’s done I’ll say the only thing that kept me watching was the compulsion to stay up to date with the MCU.

For that reason the musical sting and post credits scene were the highlights of the whole thing for me!

I thought it was great, and stuck the landing. I'm now looking forward to seeing Kamala Khan in The Marvels more than Captain Marvel.

I honestly don't see what was so cringeworthy about the finale.

Well, despite being Home Alone that was all fucking awesome. Amazing series.

Anyone think that

Spoiler

Bree Larson

was looking painfully thin? Might have been CGI I suppose.

I kinda thought the same of Chris Pratt in Love & Thunder.

That final reveal was basically just lazy. Continuity via soundtrack.

I really enjoyed that little piece of music we got.

Did I miss something? What are you guys talking about?

I assumed

Spoiler

De-aging? She looked younger and shorter, like she’s supposed to be a different, younger version of Captain Marvel.

I thought it was great! All the trademark charm, fun and imagination that made the series stand out in the first place. Major Spider-Man energy at a few points, I love that this show tapped into those ‘low on stakes, big on community’ themes that many people will identify Marvel with. Embiggen!

Also:

Spoiler

Mutants! It’s happening!

Spoiler

During the reveal that she has a "mutation", it played a little jingle from the XMen cartoon. The same one used in Multiverse of Madness.

I loved that. :D

Among other things...

Spoiler

Embiggen!

It looks like Kamala's getting her comic book powers after all, except as a mutant rather than an inhuman. The very first thing she does with her powers in the comic is accidentally shapeshift into Carol Danvers, so that was a nice touch.

This has been by far my favourite of the Marvel shows so far. Even the inevitable big fight was great fun.

I’m not familiar with the comics

but that was Carol at the end, surely? Why else was she shocked after taking in all the art of her around the room.

it did seem that way but how could she be younger than she was when

Spoiler

She became Captain Marvel?

Unless as well as swapping with Kamala she also swapped age?

You're might be right actually.

Spoiler

In the comics, she's wishing she was Carol when she gets her powers activated, and ends up shapeshifting into Ms. Marvel era Carol as a result. I assumed the same thing was happening here, although it wouldn't make much sense thematically.

It does seem like she's swapped places or something based on her reaction, like you say.

I couldn't tell at the end if was her

Shape-shifting into Carol or

(Shang-chi spoilers)

Spoiler

some kind of link between the Ten Rings and the Bangle as this show seems to suggest they both came from the same source.

Carol was investigating what the rings were so I thought Carol and Kamala swapped places.

This isnt a slight against anyone but it's a show about a Gen Z Muslim girl who older people probably just can't relate to, therefore her and friends actions probably come off as cringy.

This is the only explaination I can come up with it because I thought it was really great all around and a breath of fresh air.

Nothing?

Since the fox acquisition they own everything xmen related. The ‘92 show that the music is from is on D+

Yeah she’s been looking really, really thin on Instagram recently. Hope she’s ok.

Just caught up, loved it. The cast is just amazing especially her family. Her big reveal to her family and

Spoiler

...them trying to pretend to be surprised. And her brother teasing her about letting the kid fall and break a limb in an earlier episode...

So many little touches, that's where it really shined.
