Wildly there's also the option of commentary during matches. This trailer shows it off as well as some longer, more natural gameplay segments. It does look like universal parries may be part of it, though they may use resources or at least have whiff animations, unlike 3rd Strike's approach.

All that could change by 2023 anyway of course.

Hopefully we see some exhibition matches soon. The stages certainly look lovely.

Fully love the paint splashes, but am a bit sad they've continued with the smooth animation style of V. I've pre-moaned about that enough already though so I'll just shut up and look forward to details on the roster!

Because it looks like FA3 with the startup of FA1, I'd like to know what options you have against it beyond baiting. Even if it costs a full meter, it needs to not stalemate when it pops.

The game offers classic controls as well as Modern, single button specials and mash-a-button auto combos.

Looks like the parry does cost "Drive" meter, but replenishes when you're successful. Perfect Parries at the last moment give some additional benefit that isn't specified.

Drive Impact is another absorb that strikes the opponent and I guess is a bit like Ryu's Vtrigger 2 in SFV, or maybe even a charged focus attack? For meter.

Drive Rush sounds like the ability to dash-cancel out of any cancellable normal or Drive Parry at the cost of 3 stock (1 stock to cancel from Drive Parry).

Ah, I wasn't expecting quite so much info all at once. Ah!

Liking the visual style of that! The first teaser hinted SF6 might continue the "artistic ink/paint effect" trend that was introduced with SFIV's brush strokes, and I'd seen people speculating that graffiti might be the chosen style this time. Pleased to see that was proven right - but I didn't think the paint effect would be as prominent as this; it's splashing around like it's Splatoon or something!

Anyone recognise any good Easter eggs in the city scenes? Obviously that's Hugo over on the left with the "Giant Attack" billboard, and Metro City/Final Fight.

My reaction to one of the character intros: "Wait, is that Dee Jay? No, I think it's Sean... Oh, it's a new character."

Yatagarasu* and VF... 4 Evo(?) had real time commentary options. They really sucked.

*maybe this was just commentators guest starring as announcers, it's been a while, but I'm pretty sure they yakked during matches as well.

Graphic style looks nice. Not huge on graffiti stylings and the like (70's kung fu movies aesthetics ftw), but the characters themselves look way better.

... I probably won't play much of it, a lot of recent fighters have looked awesome and I barely touched them. Guilty Gear Strive, for example. Generally it's 'is this Virtua Fighter 5?', and if not it gets laid by the wayside unless I'm revisiting older titles I enjoyed 20 years ago.

Like VF5. But hey, that's got a modern update.

I'm pretty unconvinced that the commentary will be meaningful. It'd be nice to gain some insight about what you could have done in a given situation but I expect it'll just be babbling about different stuff. I prefer big, daft "YOU HAVE FISTS OF GOD!" "I'VE NEVER SEEN A COMBO THAT INSTENSE" style announcers, if any.

The capcom blog has the usual write up, confirms arcade mode, training etc (which they should have to, but, well, Street Fighter V launched without arcade mode).

I will say, the Japanese commentator wasn't bad. Mainly because you can't tell what the hell he's saying unless you know Japanese, and he seems very excitable. I don't think it'll work with the English language ones - probably have two or three canned sentences for any given situation, and it'll repeat endlessly. Forever.

Stuck between wanting old faves to appear, overused chars to disappear and new creations to make themselves known.

Quote

Regarding Luke: 'He spends his days off eating junk food, playing video games, and challenging opponents to a good old fight.'

WTF, Luke's my bro now.

I just have the useless hope that it won't be a DLC fest so every time you boot it up you see all the shit you're missing constantly spitting in your face. My SFV stage and character roster looked like a line of broken teeth.

The free-roam bit looks mad. Please let us find Capcom characters hanging out and give us Yakuza/Persona style social interactions. :P

Yakuza with SF combat is something I'm definitely down for!

The commentary thing made me wtf - but actually I've warmed to it and if they provide enough voicelines so that it doesn't get repetitive; it will really add to your games and let you feel like a top level player without the need to devote your life.

I don't know if they're using it but there's *very* good tech to simulate people's voice out there now; so they could potentially get some big names signed up for it for relatively little recording work and still provide a crazy amount of lines. Surprisingly hyped!

And an arcade that specialises in all of the Ridge Racer games so everyone can finally relax.

I haven’t played Yatagarasu but I have seen footage of the chat during matches.

This could work if the exclamations aren’t going off all of the time. I like P4A but having Rise add her voice to the match participants’ (who seemingly had voiced lines for every damned move) was a bit much.

oh wow, that looks pretty legit. No way someone knocked that together in the past 12 hours!

Great list but some interesting omissions.

Wonder if this leak will change anything?

Drive sounds like their new V System then. There’s an official breakdown at Capcom Unity: https://news.capcomusa.com/2022/06/02/street-fighter-6-redefines-the-genre-in-2023/

HATO_PSBlog_SS_14-1024x726.jpg

So Drive Impact is focus attack, Drive Parry is SFIII parry (automatic at the cost of meter, or free if timed well), Overdrive Art is EX, Drive Rush is dash cancel, Drive Reversal is V-Reversal. Lots of defensive options with different applications then. It’ll be interesting to see how many things can be stopped - are there moves that blow through one Drive thing but get stopped by another?

I think almost all look awesome but imho Luke (RUUKU) is the weakest/lamest design by far. Which makes me wonder why they decided to lead with him.

The actual gameplay they showed looks pretty good, more so in the commentary trailer weirdly. I guess it’s good they’re doing some single player stuff, even if I don’t care about that at all.

The leaked roster having so many new characters is very nice. Shame they seem to have forgotten street fighter 3 once again.
