You have ruined this game for me :(

I'm playing on an OLED and had zero image retention to counter. I have stuck alot of hours in since it hit Game Pass too. I am almost at 3 days played.

I hadn’t played it for that long, relatively, but it’s there. It’s also very visible on the orange e-shop transition screen just before you log in, on the Switch if any of you have that. I have an older panel (B7) also, so newer models might be less affected.

Ha sorry, I thought people might want to know and of course YMMV. Seems to have all the bad things though - bright red, static image. I’ve got the shift thing on and have run the refresher five times but it’s still there.

Despite having this for free via Gamepass I decided to buy it. The devs deserve my money ☺️ I also bought the DLC too, despite having only got 30 minutes twice and still have a lot to unlock etc, which brings me to ask:

Am I best to rinse the base game before installing the DLC?

Thinking of doing the same. Or reinstating it to my Steam Secret Santa list as a cheap option for someone.

It is a tougher level than the original ones. I would save it as a final challenge for after you have done 30 minute runs on all the base stages and unlocked a bunch of stuff.

Is the DLC stuff well separated? Got it paused on my download list, should I just install it now or wait?

I wonder if it’ll be coming to the phone versions? Speaking of which, I’m finding it difficult to play it after being levelled up on the Xbox version 😂 Cross saves would be awesome, but maybe dangerous to an already overly addictive situation.

Does anyone know how to go to the second page on the Grimoire on Xbox ? I think I have tried every button ten times and it can't get to it.

I was going to ask the same.  It's clearly a bug as no button, pad or stick action seems to go to it.

Details (spoilers) for all the new weapons and their evolutions:

I'm about 9 hours of playtime but not managed a single 30 minute run yet :( My best was 27 minutes yesterday and it was insane, I thought my Deck was going to melt in my hands! I was in the zone though it all just clicked and I sort of realised what was going on which broke my concentration and boom... taken out by some witch thing boss in the library.

Tried this on Gamepass, didn’t get it at all… I just move about?

…a while later, holy shit this is like a Pac-Man CE version of Gauntlet!

Absolutely awesome! 👍

I’m still not sure why I like it so much. But it seems to be balanced so well so even if the power up gods have smiles on you everything feels ever so slightly out of control, always on the edge of failure.

It still looks fucking horrible though.

I think you are close to the point where the game tips in your favour and you can start really wrecking everything and 30 minute runs become easy enough. Except the Dairy Plant that one is abit of a bastard for awhile. Below in spoiler is a build for around 9 hours play, so hopefully nothing spoilery.

Spoiler

Pick Imelda, she is one of the first characters you can get and the Wand is a solid weapon for the start of your run and the Empty Tome which evolves it is really good.

For defence King Bible and Santa Water. Concentrate on getting these lvled quick then evolved with Spellbinder and Attractorb. Santa Water evolved is devasting towards the end of your run. Does huge damage per second.

For attack I would go Axes, Runetracer and Knives. Evolve them with Candleabrador, Armor and Bracer.

The Runetracer is very good on the library. Try and level that first. In the last few minutes you don't want to be moving around too much. Your evolved Santa Water and Bibles will be doing the heavy lifting. Watch for bosses though. They will melt you quick so move in the opposite direction out of their reach when they appear late.

So build is

Wand, King Bible, Santa Water, Axes, Runetracer, Knives.

Empty Tome, Spellbinder, Attractaorb, Candleabrador, Armor, Bracer.

That is the build or was very similar to the one I used when I started getting 30 minute runs. The Santa Water is the key really. It is very slow at the early part of your run but it is huge late on when evolved.

I think I was around a similar time played before I started to last 30 mins. I had the gold for plenty of power ups by then. I found the library much easier than the forest early on too.

Have you unlocked

Spoiler

Poe? You get him for levelling up Garlic. I found him the easiest to use at first, after getting no where near with the starting characters. Garlic and the power ups that restore health make it much easier at first.   I chose the clover a lot too, seems to help you get more chickens and better chests.

Every time I play, I’m asking myself why I can’t stop playing and that I probably should use my valuable game time to

play something on my Gamepass back log, but it’s always just one more run. Quick resume is also a god send on this, when I do manage to drag myself off to play a ‘proper’ game 😂

I’ve recommended this to a few people and they’ve not even bothered to try it. More the fool them.

I bought this earlier for the Deck. It seems pretty good fun, but obviously one of those games you need to sink a lot of hours into before you understand it. At the moment, I'm just playing as the warrior bloke with the whip. Got up to 11 minutes on my first run. Garlic seems to work well, especially when combined with the item that increases your AOE.

Is there anything I should be focusing on to begin with, apart from just trying to survive for as long as possible? I've bought a few of the unlocks with the money I've accrued.

The obvious one is try and evolve a power-up by choosing that one when available. They get super-powerful and you can keep stuff at bay easily, well, mainly. Plus don't forget to buy permanent stat boosts.

I honestly think the best way to enjoy it is to play it, play it again and again and find out all the effects and cool stuff for yourself. I purposely avoided all the talk of "builds" and finding out what weapon does what and I feel I've had a better experience for it.

You will soon find preferences and what works for your favoured style of play.

Finally nailed my first stage! Mad run in the library thanks to a few tips here and felt truly epic by the end. Picked up around 6000 coins and updated most things now! Wet for Imelda with Rune tracer and King Bible, not upgraded those two much before but they really come into their own by the end. Mix in some garlic and axes, they weren't getting close!

Brilliant run with Mortaccio - evolved rune tracer and santa thing with bones flying everywhere utterly ruined everything. Got a bit tasty at the end but scraped through. I am really really regretting resisting this for so long
