The fascinating thing about all these silly Netflix and HBO comparisons that have become the analogy du jour for Microsoft and Sony's output respectively is that years and years ago the CEO of Netflix said they want to become HBO quicker than HBO can become Netflix.

You don't say?

I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't have an impact on what Sony were prepared to offer though.

I never realised we had so many experts in multi billion dollar M&As in here.

You should see the MS buys Activision thread. The certainty over the why’s,  wherefores, implications , reasons and eventual outcome really is quite something .

That one was full of antitrust experts.

Be more likely EU antitrust I would think but who knows how that would work.

70 billion dollars is outrageous (checks out cost of new gaming PC).

How dare people speculate about stuff on the internet.

This is an interesting move by Sony.

Sony will now be guaranteed any new FPS Bungee develop to be on PlayStation format. So in effect it might balance of MS making CoD exclusive to Xbox as Sony could at some point if needed make any of Bungees output exclusive to PlayStation.

Who's doing that in here? We all know the current Halo guys are shit, Sony brought their brother, Good Halo.

Haha I didn’t say anybody was there yet, just looks like someone was limbering up towards that though.

I think the core thing is that Sony now owns a working GaaS. They missed that and have been desperately trying to turn multiple games into one of their own. This conveniently sidesteps the creation process and is already multiplatform to boot.

The optics of Crash and Spyro being MS property, while Halo’s dev is now Sony owned, are now comparable to seeing the first Sonic game hit a Nintendo platform.

It’s the Game Company Rapture and all are game.

I mean let’s be honest it’s not exactly riveting news is it; ooh great I’ll be able to still play Destiny 2 on my PlayStation, or whichever platform I prefer.

This isn't about Destiny. And Bungie have been absolutely clear about Destiny 2 and all its future expansions (up to the stupidly names "Final Shape" being available on all platforms.

It's whatever Bungie is working on aside from Destiny that Sony will have exclusively.

What games? Nothing comes immediately to mind...

Absolutely. This is all about GaaS so getting content onto as many platforms as possible. Bungie have a great heritage for FPS games too. So win for all gamers I think.

Good move for Sony who are expanding into multiplat and online.

This provides little to no direct benefit to them with Bungie remaining multiplat, but Bungie have a lot of experience in areas Sony want to grow into. Lots of potential value there.

Also, if we're talking studios for Sony to buy ... Bioware please! Buy them from those utter fuckwits at EA and throw all the money at them.

ALL THE MONEY!

I already suggested Square Enix/Eidos in the other thread.

Will they? Where does it say that?

Deal has been in the works for about 6 months, more acquisitions to come.

They should buy the folk that made Kena. Quality game! In fact I’m surprised Microsoft haven’t gone after them, as it’s exactly the kind of Sony/Nintendo style game that Xbox needs.

Interesting. Konami? Capcom? Square?

Now a new Silent Hill exclusive to PlayStation using the adaptive triggers of the Dual Sense. Wild speculation but that would be nice.... :)

Lol. Was gonna say.  I’m sure I saw the same fucking names in that other thread with their expert opinions and genuine concerns.
